Hatching #34

Silver-Purple Cszaiath & Copper Yarpath
Yellow-Green Halutath & Brown Porth

As if the attention of Weyrlingmaster D’lrik and his assistants weren’t hard enough to come by, Cszaiath and Halutath raised their voices a few hours before dawn to herald the arrival of their children. Sleepy residents and candidates roused themselves and moved to the hatching sands. Some riders chose to go back to sleep for a few more hours, but the twenty remaining candidates had no such option.

It came as no surprise that the females had separated their eggs - Cszaiath’s four were nearest her, and Halutath’s two were nestled together. The first egg to crack was one of Cszaiath’s, as it ought to be, and from the shards came a hatchling as black as night, coated in living silver like her mother. Yarpath seemed inordinately proud as the hatchling made her way to the cluster of vampires. Day follows night follows day in the age old pattern, continuing until forever. The hatchling said with wisdom beyond her maturity. “Eienpaia.” Shinu Tenshi said, welcoming the dragon into the nighttime world.

The second hatchling was also Cszaiath’s, and his brilliant hide reflected both of his parents - silver-copper. Quietly he moved to Cheslan, who stifled a yawn. “And good morning to you, Oulriapa.”

Halutath’s small clutch shivered, and one of the eggs fell open, sending twin dragons out onto the sand. The first off the sand and onto his feet was yellow marked with blue, and his twin just the opposite. They moved in tandem to brothers who waited patiently.
Ravindra said the first, I am Nesolator.
I am Lunesator, Ramachandra. intoned the second.

The third egg from Cszaiath’s clutch split to reveal a repeat - though this silver-copper was not as quiet as his brother. He yowled for all to hear, and approached the blue-green Chinese dragon with caution. I know you are mine, Ryoke, but I expected a boy, not a dragon… The changed Ryoke comforted his copper bond, and his squalling slowly stopped.

Halutath’s other egg broke a bit more explosively than the first, and the bi-colored contents immediately began fighting. It was hard to tell which cream-red limb belonged to which hatchling, but with a sharp word, Halutath sent them off to find their bonds. Towards a pair of siblings they too went, the cream-red running ahead of the red-cream to stop at Naani’s feet. I’m Lepyrorat! she said, then squealed as the other skidded to a stop, sending a wave of a sand over his sister. I am Fyreator, Nove. the male said with an audible smirk.

The last and largest of Cszaiath’s eggs began to quake viciously and after an eternity, the shell broke away. A dragoness of great beauty issued forth - deep gold accented with liquid silver. Doubly metallic, she was awe-inspiring. Her movements were graceful and it wasn’t until her rainbow gaze met that of her chosen that Rem realized what was happening. Yes Rem, I have chosen you. Patience has rewarded us both, it seems. Tell them my name, beloved.
“Her name is Arerrabeth!” Rem cried with joy.
