CARPET
A four piece carpet or rubber mat is fitted.
- Two pieces are glued to the kick panels/wheelarches.
- One piece covers the front floor, and is held in position by the front
door sills, and center console (If there
is one). It is possible to lift it out without removing the front
seats.
- The last piece covers the rear floor, and is held in position by all
four door sills (4/5-door), and the
three metal panels below the seatbench (m80
and older). On m81 and newer models. it's held in position by the
seatbench hinges. It is also possible to lift this one out without removing
the front seats, but not very recommendable.
The rear piece is different between a 2/3-door, and a 4/5-door. The latter
has longer rear edges. The rear piece is also different between pre-81
models, or m81-onwards models, caused by the shape of the wide metal shield
on top of the tunnel. (m80 and older)
Fitting a rear carpet piece from a 2/3-door to a 4/5-door is possible,
you just need two of them. And scissors, a needle and thread.
The 900 carpet is similar, but not identical. The rear part is, but the
front part is longer, and integrated with the two side-pieces.
Depending on your taylor-skills, it is possible to fit a 900 carpet into
a 99.
