KIAMA LADIES SOCCER PICK UP HANDY WIN

The Kiama Ladies Soccer Team pulled off a handy 2 – 1 win over local rivals Shellharbour City on the weekend.  The girls played terrific soccer and controlled the play for much of the game even though the side was depleted with some of the better players being out injured.

This was a very gutsy win as the girls were trailing 1 – 0 with only five minutes left on the clock.  The team has courage stamped all over it and this display was all the better because of the way they continued to fight.  Barbara Sutton scored the equalizer before Jenny Scott scored the winner in the dying seconds.  Scott beat two players inside the box before drilling the ball home.

Claire Roche at fullback had a terrific game and did a great job on playing her much larger opponent right out of the game.  Cathy Castles also deserves praise in goals.  She came into the match with an injured hand and put in a blinder.

The Kiama Leagues Club Player of the Match was Sasha Maher who was inspirational.  Sasha was all over the park and was a deserved winner of the award.

The girls are at home next Sunday to the Douglas Park Razorbacks.  They are a new side in the competition and have been performing well so far this year.  But the Kiama girls are confident they can keep their form and are hoping for a win.
