Memories Of A Fading City
Sabrina's
Bangalore
|
Some came from afar to make a pilgrimage of a life
time to their forefather's memories and places that they lived
in. Taking back with them the essence of a shattered land, a de-flowered
Rose from an uprooted 'Garden City'
that was once a 'Pensioner's Paradise'!!

Glimpses of Bangalore, the Year 1986 '
|
Bangalore, Year 1986, was
a special occasion for Sabrina to capture her visit to the City
of Bangalore on film and these memories are a rare treasure. As each
day the City is changing so rapidly and one really cannot recognize
it, sometimes even within the year itself. The landscape is so fluid
that day by day the very Soul of the City is being torn out and will never
be replaced. Trees are indiscriminately uprooted with the excuse
of widening roads, and impoving facilities, etc., Let's be frank about
it, the City is going to the dogs! Can we save what is left of it from
the eager hands that are so willing to destroy whatever beauty there
is, be it in waterways, roads, trees, flowers, buildings, landmarks,
monuments, and people. Sabrina is sharing these pictures with us
for the benefit of fellow Bangaloreans, both local as well as abroad.
Some of the photographs that Sabrina shares of Baldwin Girls' High School,
perhaps goes back to her school days, some 4 decades ago!

Her mother was Charmaine who had married Basil Ellery, who now lives in
the UK. Charmaine passed away in 2002.
The Shadrack family were from Bangalore and lived on No.1 Norris
Road. The Shadrack siblings are Rex , Claudette, Collette, Charmaine
and Rudy. Rudy married Olga Sandhurst and lives in Kent. Rex never
married. Rex , Claudette and her twin sister, Collette still live in Bangalore,
but in Gospel Street, St. Thomas Town, Lingarapuram. Sabrina

Sabrina went to Baldwin Girls' High School, Richmond Road, Bangalore,
and used to have friends like the Missionary David Semand's daughter Debbie,
and Yvonne Morris, Doreen Morris' daughter. Doreen used to teach
at BBHS. She is looking for any of her classmates and old friends of Richmond
Town. (Many more memories can be found on URL: "http://www.oocities.org/andrewjohn_2000/1prep.html".
Charmaine her mother, taught at Bishop Cotton Girls' School
for a few years. Claudette being a sports person, was a good friend
of Barbara Webster. Rudy Shadrack used to fix cars and play billiards
with Benny Bantleman. They had a place close to late Miss Gidney
and Miss Flanagan's house. Sabrina's Grandma Lillian Shadrack had a sister
Myrtle who lived on Castle street down the road from the (old) Shoolay
Police Station.
Sabrina and Heather Favell were contempories on the hockey field.
