An Interview with Allen Baxter, Rink Owner-Manager |
|||||||||
Much recent work has been done on the Crystal Ice Palace and the streamlining and updating will continue. Notice the newly and beautifully styled front desk and snack bar, both major accomplishments by James Hester and Jimmie McManus. Other new features are walkway carpeting in the bleachers, and the new carpeting up the steps from the lobby. The two new lobby benches will take some time getting used to for us old timers, but they do give a feeling of more space, and lend a togetherness feeling when seated. The semi-annual taking up and washing of the black rubber mats from the lobby and arena floors is now accomplished, and a promise was made to upgrade the sound systems inboth rinkd within a few weeks. Last month Norma Gorham assumed the decoration work for the lobby bulletin boards. Please do notice, say encoraging words when you see her, and read them regularly. The snack bar now sells new items such as pizza rolls, sausage on a stick wrapped in a blueberry pancake, we'll soon have cinnamon rolls from Mencke's in San Marcos. Of course the snack bar continues to sell "the best hot chocolate in the city." A hockey camp run by Bill Peters, general manager of the rink, will be held in June featuring instruction from Iguanas players Brian Schantz and Paul Jackson, plus Lonnie Loach from the IHL. Ask at the front desk for details. And lastly, Keep in mind the fourth year of "THEATER-ON-ICE SKATING SCHOOL" to be held at the rink this summer, July 6th through 23rd. |
