Raku is a magically unique method of firing pottery. First developed in ancient Japan, Raku is the only firing process where the red hot pot is removed from the kiln. The ware is quickly placed in a container with combustible materials, which is then closed. The resulting smoke-filled atmosphere produces a variety of special glaze effects, and turns the clay charcoal or black.
