Akkiko stared at the arrogent woman as she fumbled through all her money with a smug smile as she flaunted her wealth. She finally produced two fifties and handed them to her with another smug smile. "Be careful with the fifties, they stick together a lot." |
Akkiko smiled half heartedly and almost snatched them away and slammed them into the cash drawer, taking her change out with cold stars in the womans direction. After that she shoved the womans things into a bag and gave it to her. "Have a great day ma`am." The woman must have picked up the bite in the word "great" and so she turned and sulked out of the small store, not having a good shopping expiriance. |
Akkiko sighed and leaned on the desk tiredly. Of late she had been uptight. She already knew the signs of depression and she had just about all of them. Her parents tried to get through to her but no one could these days. She was a cold and lifeless shell of who she used to be, which people delighted in reminding her. While she couldn`t say she was happy, she was glad not to be controled or betrayed. Now it was her and her alone who caused herself pain. "Excuse me..." Akkiko turned to the woman behind her who stood with her daughter. She held up a gift certificate with a polite smile. "If she doesn`t use all the money on this how will it be refunded?" |
Akkiko thought back to variouse customers but her mind was foggy, there had been a lot of gift certificates and gift cards in her short months there. Finally she decided to take a fifty fifty on it. "Either a cash refund or a credit memo." The woman thanked her and went about her shopping. Akkiko watched half mindedly. The girl was a brat. She snapped at her mother in every oppertuninty and she was disrespectful. Akkiko tried not to down her mother at all, she snapped at her on occation but she never downed her. |
Akkiko started to ring up another customer with ease. In one fluid movement she typed in the womans ID number and pushed the check into the machine. When she was done with that customer she took another one into the dressing rooms. When she picked the wrong key, without taking so much as a second she yanked it from the door and switched them. |
She felt like a well oiled machine. No bretayel made it into her work life. Her manager had no idea of her pain and she planned to keep it that way. She rung up the next customer and was ready to push for the total when her manager stopped her. "Akkiko what do we do if there is money left on a gift certificate?" |
Akkiko felt her cheeks go red as her eyes widened. She had picked the wrong fifty. "Ummm, give a credit memo or cash back?" |
The manager shook her head slowly, making Akkiko get darker red if that was possable. "We give a credit memo." |
The woman snapped her head up, knowing her brat of a daughter would throw a tantrum. "But you told us over there that we got cash back!" |
Looking down and fumbling with a bag for a minute, Akkiko felt she might as well kiss her job good bye. "I`m sorry, I was mistaken." |
The girl looked up and Akkiko realized they were about the same age, thirteen, and yet Akkiko could have dealt with a small mistake, which this was. "But I wanted cash!" |
The mother sighed, hugging her daughter, who would have been slaped if Akkiko were her mother. "Well sorry but they don`t do that here, they should but they don`t. Do you still want to get this stuff?" |
The girl looked up maddly than brattily exclaimed, "I don`t know!" Akkiko felt her eyes narrow at the girl. A true brat was hard to come by in her spectator life but she had meant one. Most brats were bratty about certain things but this one was bratty about everything. Intrusting indeed. She wondered if there was a hint of happiness in their life of ridiculing others. |
As her manager bagged the items she had gotten she shot Akkiko a sideways glare. "Go up front." |
Akkiko nodded and walked slowly to the front. She only had about an hour to go before she could go home. Her lonelyness was surfacing after four months of solitude. It was starting to show at work, in the form of silly mistakes. She could have crawled back to Veda but she refused to. It wasn`t worth it. She was thirteen and yet she had been hired. The manager was a friend of the family and she had made an exception for Akkiko. |
After she left work she walked home ignoring her aching feet. When she got in the door she had made up her mind to die, and she knew where she would do it from. OZ head quarters was the tallest building in the city. Their ego would be shattered if a teen commited suicide form their building. She put in her white contacts and pulled her black trench coat on. She had changed quite a bit. Her hair was now black and her face had hardened much to her delight. |
She walked at a quick pace to the building, making people clear a path for her, and slipped in. It was an educational center OZ had made and so she got to the top easily, the gaurds thinking she was a student. She stepped to the edge and looked over. Adrenaline was too strong now. Only when she was in the depths of dispair could she jump. She thought over the last few months to speed the process. "Will you be done soon?" |
She turned to see a boy with tassled brown hair wearing a green shirt with black spandex shorts. She gave a small growl and turned away. This would be the only time she would commit suicide and she wanted it to be for real! She snapped her head to look over she shoulder. "Take a number pal!" |
He narrowed his eyes, gestering around with his arm which was bandaged. "You know other people might need this rooftop too!" |
Akkiko now turned all the way to face him. She thought about her situation. In the last moments of her life, she was arguing with a boy who finally drove her to jump with his ignorince. Shouldn`t he have tried to stop her? "I got here first and you`ll have to wait until I`m in the depths of dispair before you can jump!" |
"You shouldn`t have come up here yet if you weren`t ready! I`m supposed to meet somone here so jump!" Heero couldn`t believe he was saying this to a girl but he was heartless and she didn`t fit into his mission anywhere. |
Akkiko growled, anger now making her forget why she was up there in the first place. "Well I`m sorry! I didn`t see the 'anual jumpers convention' sign at the top of the building!" |
Heero narrowed his eyes at her, knowing she would be dead son so he could reveal whatever he wanted to her. "Oh trust me I have a better reason for being here than you." |
Akkiko now narrowed her eyes at him. "Oh really? Well let`s hear it. I suppose you also want to tell me you can help?" |
Heero shook his head, almost sadly. "I doupt I can help anyone." |
Her eyes softened suddenly as she stared at him, in amazement. "You just did." He now stared at her with a sigh. While she stared at him he dashed forward, pushing her off the side of the building. She looked up at him the best she could with her hair whipping around her in the wind. She wasn`t scared to die, just annoyed. "I just got over this you slimebag!" |
He reached out, grabbing her hand and heard the satisfying gasp as she looked at him, anger being too mild a term. |
Once they had been hauled into the plane she lunged at him but almost immidiately her hands were bound along with her feet and a bag was put over her head. She kicked the best she could and she fought them until they landed. Finally, she felt something hard land on the back of her head and the world went dark on her. |
Heero stared at the girl who was tied to a wooden chair. There was a spot light on her while the rest of the room was dark. Heero stood in the shadows. Doctor J was there too. Her serene face didn`t move a muscle as she slept. Doctor J turned to the man behind him. "Dakin, I think you hit her a might too hard." |
Dakin regarded him with a sneer, feeling the bruise on his arm and hoping he had snapped her neck. "If she`s as strong as we think than she can handle it." |
Akkiko had enough control to keep from opening her eyes when she came around. She tried to acess her situation. Her hands were tied to something hard, most likely wood. She was in a chair. Judging by the darkness she saw on her eyelids she was in a dark room. There was a small buzzing sound no doupt from an old light and she heard voices. There were people talking. "Is she alive?" |
Akkiko controled herself from jumping as a hand clamped over her jaw and roughly tilted her head back. Two fingers pressed hard against her pulse and than her head was dropped forward. A finger was pushed painfully into the back of her neck on the bruise to see if she was faking, which she was of coarse. "She`s still out." She knew that rough voice. It was the guy from the rooftop. A flinch ran through her electing two more fingers on her pulse. "Her pulse has sped up. She`s coming around." |
Akkiko let a small moan out and rolled her eyes open slowly. When they had focused she glared at the boy in front of her, anger flowing into them as they hardened. "You! Brought me here to save me the trouble of killing myself? Good! My insurance doesn`t cover suicide anyway!" |
Two men emerged from the shadows with surprised looks on their faces. One of them, who seemed more machine than human, put a hand on the boys shoulder. "Do you know who you`re talking to?" |
She growled at him, knowing that the boy was an assasin of some sort but not really caring. He would have been her best friend if he would have dropped her. This made her even more mad if possable. "Do I care?" |
The other man, who had been quiet until now, smirked at her and took her chin in his hand forsefully. "You will when you train along side him." He roughly snapped her head side to side making her growl under her breath than finally she bit his finger. He snatched it back with a grin. "She`s perfect." |
The boy from the roof stepped forward. "I`m Heero Yuy and you`ll be training with me to destroy OZ." She tilted her head down away from him showing that she couldn`t have cared less if she tried. |
The machine man stepped up silently and with a grin. "My name is Doctor J. I`m the one who will be helping you to train." |
The other man, who she had come up with the name Snobby for, stepped forward and leaned inches away from her face trying to evoke fear in her. It didn`t work. She stared at him as carelessly as if he were a baby threating her. "I`m Dakin Barton of the Barton foundation. I saved you and you will follow my orders." |
He stepped back and she looked at all them. They were looking at her expectantly. "What, you think I`ll tell you my name too?" |
Heero clicked his gun out, knowing she wouldn`t care and that he may have even been doing her a favor. "Well beings you know too much we either kill you or you talk." |
She snorted, looking at the gun with no feeling. "Well you shouldn`t have told me all that information than huh?" |
Dakin snarled as he shook his head in frustration. She liked the effect she had on him, that was clear by her smirk. "And why not?" |
Akkiko now cocked her head to look at Heero, amusment imprinted on her face. "Did Heero here tell you of our meeting?" |
Dakin crossed his arms angerly, now sputtering in anger at this insoline girl. "You met on a rooftop!" He thought about that statement than turned to Heero angerly. "She is mentally unstable!" |
Doctor J now looked up at Heero. "And he isn`t?" |
Dakin growled in frustration, turning away and crossing his arms. "Fine! She`s in!" |
Akkiko stood up. "Um, did I say I wanted to be 'in'?" |
In responce to the surprised looks she got, she held up her ropes which had been wiggled out of as they argued, they hadn`t been tied too tight. Heero lowered his head slightly. "You decide." |
Akkiko stared at him, lips pressed together in a line of annoyance. Darn that boy! Always knew what to say! With a growl she held out her hand. "My name is Akkiko Lente." |
