Chapter 3:
"I hit you and you hit me back we fall to the floor.
The rest of the day stands still.
Fine line between this and that when things go wrong
I pretend the past isn`t real."
-Linkin Park
Akkiko held her gun up natrually and pointed it at Heero, who had just lost it. She grinned in amusment and victory. "Heero my hero, you`ve lost again."
He regarded her with surprise but he supposed he should expect that from her. She had been trained even more vigerously than him so she would be equil. She was equil, surpassing him as a matter of fact, and the suicidal factor worked for her as well. Dakin didn`t like her which was obviouse but Doctor J did. Heero sighed and put his hands in the air, surrendering. The lights in the small room went on. "Good job Akkiko. Heero you did good too but always keep your gaurd up on the gun. Akkiko I have a mission for you and Heero you come up to, you might have to go in with her."
Akkiko grinned up at the window, eyebrow cocked. Life was amusing these days. Just the other day Dakin had been saying that she would never make it to a mission. "I`m ready for a mission huh?"
There was a brief pause before Dcoctor J awnsered, which Heero knew to be a bad sign. "Yes, now come up here."
Akkiko turned to Heero who was frowning thoughtfully. He had changed a lot. He wasn`t as cocky as he used to be. He was still a kill joy, this was her first mission. She thought about that. Her first mission was at the age of fourteen. She grinned. How many children had those credentales? She took a few steps towards the door but Doctor J had already come out. She grinned evily at him. "Why, doctor J, what brings you down here?"
He glared ta her through his mechanical eyes, extendng a transparent in her direction. "Here is your mission."
She took the tranparent he gave her and looked at it. "Set off a bomb in OZs` main headquarters. Sounds simple. Code blue. Hmmm, I`ll do it."
Heero snapped his head up. Code blue was just above code red, meaing her chances of survival were low. "Code blue! What are her chances of survival?"
Doctor J looked at the paper and answered without batting an eye - metiphorically speaking of coarse. "Small."
Akkiko turned to Heero with a reckless grin that came only when she was ready to do something. "Oh don`t worry, I`ll survive. Why would I miss another sparing match with you?" With that she turned and walked away. Heero stared after her. He was going with her. No questons asked. He had brought her into this and she had made him human again. He ran after her as she walked to the small transport with a bag slung over her shoulder of small personal items that had been packed for her. She turned slightly when she heard him coming, eyebrow cooly cocked. "Something wrong?"
"You aren`t going alone." Akkiko stepped down one step and faced him, head lifted in a challenging way and eyebrow cocked. He was seriouse. "I`m going with you."
She shrugged, glad he wasn`t acusing her of being a spy. "Alright, if you want to." He followed her dutifully onto the ship and sat down.
Akkiko came back from that mission fine and so did Heero. Doctor J, knowing her suicidal tendancies, gave her a lot of code blue missions. She rarely complained about it but Heero did. Finally, Heero put a stop to it by talking Doctor J into not giving her any. They weren`t missions that really acomplished anything which is what irritated Heero. She was risking her life for no reaosn at all. Finally they both excepted a code red mission. Most likely niether one of them would come back alive and at a seconds notice they would have to die. The mission was code named "Opperation Metior".
