Chapter 3: Road Block |
Tanya fumbled with the alarm clock as it blared in her ear. When she didn`t find the "off" button she hurled it against the wall and sat up. Her captain had called her up the other day to tell her she could take today off. She convinced him to let her stop by the station for a few minutes to pick up some papers on the case. She stumbled into the exercise room after she had pulled on some shorts and a sports bra. |
It had been her habit for years to come into this room every mourning and release her anger on the unsuspecting pieses of eqipment. She never wore boxing gloves and as she hit the bag for the first time a surge of pain ripped through her arm as it swung wildly on it`s hook. She was alive and there was another day to live. The pain let her know. As she swung a second time the pain became dull and as she kept hitting the bag, it disappeared all together. As soon as she came out of this room she would have to shut her feelings off but for now she could battle them out until her knuckles bled. |
When she left the room, soaked with sweat, she went to the shower. Slowly her anger subsided and she became numb again. She dressed in black jeans with a black tank top and than she left for work , or at least to pick up a few papers. The engine to her car purred under her hand and she cranked up the sterio than floored it. |
The streets were desolate. She turned the next to the last cornor and stopped. There were no cars in the street and at the end of the road, her chief was standing. She shifted the gears to her car, cranked up the bass on her sterio, and floored it. She stopped with about two feet of room between her and her chief. When she got out he grinned at her. "I thought I told you not to work today." |
She smirked and shut the door. "I just wanted to pick some papers up at the station than I`d be out of your hair for today." She felt as though something wasn`t right and so her hand trailed her car until it came to the door knob. She wrapped her fingers around it but didn`t show her concern. |
He nodded at her and than laughed. "Actually, you know the funny thing? I`m not the one who wanted you to take the day off! They are!" He gestered to a black car parked at the end of the street. Two people were at a dead run towards her. She wasn`t about to take any chances as to who they were. They were too close for her to start her car and run them over. She glanced to her left than her right and saw an ali which she dashed into. She tok every turn she found and crouched down waiting. |
Finally she heard the voices of men shouting to split up. They had lost her she knew. With a grin she stuffed her hands in her pockets and started to walk. She came to the spot where her car was after about twenty minutes of walking and saw that the other car was gone along with her chiefs car. Her car was still there, in one piese. |
She was about to step towards her car when she thought it was all too easy. She took a step back and than another one that made her bump into something. She turned and saw his colbolt blue eyes and the small flicker of a smile on his face as he put his hand over her mouth and nose making her breath in fumes of some sort. Her legs gave out but he held her up and she felt her head being pulled to face him. His eyes were narrowed as if to make sure she was out than she remembered nothing. |

Tanya felt something cold around her wrist and under her was something soft. She wracked her brain trying to think of the events which had come before the darkness but all she could remember was colbolt blue eyes and a flicker of a smile. Sad eyes, a sad smile. She relaxed a little as she thought about those eyes. They belonged to a sad man. She tenced again as she heard a sound to her left and tried to open her eyes. |
It was than that she realized her eyes were open but they were covered. She wanted to take the blind fold off but her hands wouldn`t reach it and she didn`t have the strength to move up. She opened her mouth to call for help but she realized she was gagged. Finally she wriggled against the handcuffs that held her. She made little whines and sounds as she did. She hated being helpless. |
"Quiet!" She froze at the voice and instintively curled up. "I`m going to take your blindfold and gag off. Don`t scream or speak. Just listen." Light flooded her eyes as the blindfold was taken off and as they adjusted she saw the colbolt blue eyes and the flicker of a smile. Odin, the hit man from the day before. He ripped the tape off her motuh and threw it in the trash which was next to her. "Welcome to the world of the living." She opened her mouth to speak but he put the tip of his finger over her lips and stared at her with amusment in his eyes as if to remind her that she was at his mercy. |
"You have two options Tanya." He stood up with his hands jammed in his pockets and looked down at her. She realized that she was handcuffed to a bed which had nice, clean sheets but she was in a rather dark room with no furniture. There was only a staircase leading up to wherever she was. As if to get her attention, Odin snapped his fingers in front of her face. "Acess the situation later. You and Mech Li have a lot in common you know. You both don`t like killing, you`re both friends, and," He sat in front of her and held her eyes in a stare. "You both are working on the same case." He seemed pleased by her reaction to this. She widened her eyes for an instant and was ready to speak when Odin again silenced her with his fingertip. |
"Quiet, I`m going to tell you your options." He tilted his head forward at her until she relaxed than he removed his finger from her lips. "We need an inside sorse and you would be the best we could ask for however, we can`t trust you won`t tell anyone your situation and so we had you chief bring computers and importent research equipment here. Chang and I will work with you to find the person who is smugling the gundanium and stop them. The reason Li has taken this upon himself is because he knows how the justice system works. Chang has a thing about justice and I am an expert in killing as well as research. That is your first option." |
He now stood up again and looked down at her. "Li has forbidden me or Chang to kill you and so if you refuse, you will stay attatched to this bed until someone finds you, Li dies, or you die. You would be taken care of of coarse." He smirked eveily. "Well, help us or live tied up?" |
Tanya thought about this. How many ideals would this violate? None really. She had helped Li out in the past why would this case be any different? It would be crossing the station but the station had crossed her. She stared at Odin for a while than finally nodded. "You`ve got yourself a deal." |
He now grinned eveily. "Good, now let`s move you somewhere - more comfortable." |
