Chapter 1: Respected Highly
In the small crowd in the restrant, one girl stood out. She was sitting at a table in front of a dish of fried rice and reading a paper. As she ate and read she would cast an occational glance at her watch than at the door in the back of the room. She was a picurior looking girl. Her eyes were narrowed and blue with bits of ice in them. She had marroon hair with a streak of white that frizzed out of the neat french twist she had her hair in.
What was most esquisite about her was her aloof air. She seemed not to notice anything going on around her yet at the same time she would tence discreetly everytime someone walked by her. She had a nobility that was rare. It seemed as though the codes of honor were imprinted on her heart by someone.
Her lips were set in a thoughtful line as she looked at her watch for the third time. She was waiting for someone but no one was sure whom she was waiting for. With this girl, this rare flower as she had been termed, everyone was on the outside looking in at what she allowed them to see. Now they saw an esquisite beauty waiting for a date.
This image was shattered when, finally, with a slight mumble, she stood up and made long strides to the back of the room where she knocked politely on a door and, when the window on top of the door opened she showed her badge. She was allowed inside and she heartedly greeted the restarants owner and main chianease crime lord, Mech Li. His hardened face broke into a smile at the sight of her. One would have thought them fellow criminals instead of criminal and policewoman. "Why Ms. Leay, what can I do for you?"
She smiled at him. This was the main reason she could get information fast. She was respectful to officers as well as crime lords. They addressed her as friends and not as a policewoman. With her hands laced behind her back and raising slightly onto her toes to bow, she electing a smile from Li. "At the station we have heard reports of large shipments of gundanium aloe. We`re concerned with this because of the fact that we just got rid of war and mobile suits. I was wondering if you have heard anything on the streets about it?"
Mech Li leaned on his desk in thought. "Well I certainly don`t mess with the stuff. Expensive to refine. Hard to get a hold of. I haven`t heard anything but if I do, you`ll be the first I call. I can`t promise you anything though. People don`t come to me for metals. Have you checked with Ging Tie yet? He`s the main person for illigal metals like that."
She thought for a minute. Ging Tie normally sold illigal drugs or anything else that would fetch a high price. He had even sold people before. He had connections though. "No I haven`t, do you think he would know something?" Mech Li nodded and she bowed to him once again. "Sionara, thank you for your help."
He dipped his head in responce. "It`s my pleasure Ms. Leay. I wish you luck in your search." She dipped her head in gratitude and walked out of the room. Mech Li watched her go. She was one of the few cops he admired. She respected him as a person. More than once she had warned him of dangers from other families or that sort of thing. With a sigh he awnsered the phone which had been ringing since she had come.

She stepped up the steps to her apartment and pushed her thumb against the plate on the door. "Voice identification please."
She removed her thumb and leaned forward into the micraphone. "Tanya Leay." A low buzz came from the door and she heaved it open. It was cold in October. She hefted the backpack she had filled with papers up the steps to her appartment. 3-H. It was a modest enough place. Two rooms, a bed and desk for furniture. She used plastic plates and spoons. One room was filled with exercise equipment. There was a huge punching bag hanging from the middle, a chin up bar to the right and a sit up bench to the left.
She dropped the bag on the floor and walked into the kitchen. She had one of her hunches again. Something Mech had said didn`t sound right, or maybe it was the way he said it. She ducked under the cabnit door as it snapped off it`s hinges. With an annoyed sigh she dropped it to the floor and pulled out a plastic plate. He was a nice to her as usual but he didn`t awnser the phone. That was it - the phone was ringing off the hook but he didn`t pick it up once. She dumped her fried rice onto the plate and pushed it into the microwave.
Normally when the phone rang he told her to hold on just a minute than he would tell the person on the other end to call back and they would continue their discussion. It was almost as if he was afraid of the person on the other end. Who would a crime lord be afraid of? Only someone who had shown themselves to be a perfect assasin or a triad leader. Why would they be dealing with him though? He didn`t believe in assasination unless it was something to save his life or someone elses life.
The microwave beeped urgintly and she took the rice out. It was probably illigal too. She shoveled a few spoonfulls in her mouth and than went to the living room where she had plopped her bag. So many questons to awnser. She sat down and wrote a list of questons to awnser. Who was Li afraid of? Why would an assasin be paired with Li? Who was transporting gundanium? Where were they taking it?  How would the gundanium be shipped? What was it going to be used for?
She sighed at the list. Half of the questons were already on her list and the other half were new. None had been answered so far. The first paper she took out was Mech Lis` record. He had been in for robbery, forgery, and a ton of other things but he had managed to get out because of a good lawyer. She rubbed her forehead and decided that the only way any of these questons would be answered was if she went to Ging, which she hated to do. He treated her as though she had "cop" written on her forehead.
She grabbed her purse and badge and walked out the door. Gings place was open twenty four hours and he was normally out late. She hated being out this late but there was no other way to get this case solved. The palace type place loomed in front of her and she quickened her pace. She banged on the door when she got there and it opened a crack. Ging was sitting inside. She smiled at him and gave her typical greeting but he simply scowled at her. "What do you want?"
She crossed her arms. "We`ve been hearing reports about gundanium shipments and Li told me to..."
"Li always sends cop here! Get out  - now!" Tanya looked up startled at the command. She was a police officer and he still kicked her out! She would have protests than she thought of something and left without a scene. She went on a mad dash back home, hurredly opened the front door than burst upstairs to her appartment. She drug all the papers out on Ging and Li.
At the very bottom of the pile there was a clue. Ging was charged with killing a Li and a Li was charged with killing a Ging. In the Lis` case the judge ruled self defence but in the Gings` case he was convicted to twenty years in jail. She sat back with a grin. There is family strife there. Intrusting.
