Chapter 2: Answers to Questons
Tanya slept uneasily that night. Something wasn`t fitting. This isn`t the job Li would do and Ging was normally the asasin guy. Not only that but Li ws the one acting wierd. She shook her head and finally nodded off to sleep. In the mourning she went to Lis` place. She told him about being turned away and he clucked with a shake of his head. "Yes, that`s Ging alright. Always turn anyone who isn`t a Ging or a customer away." She knew that if he had the resorses he would have walked up to Ging himself and told him off.
She cocked her head at him curiosly. He had spat out the words. Perhaps there was a reason for this rivalry. Gings` and Lis` never accidently kill if they kill at all. The murders had been on purpose. Finally she asked. "Why are you two at odds?"
Li, for the first time in years, looked at her with pride over a killing. "He goes about crime dishonorably. He back stabs, doesn`t deliver what he is supposed to." She understood his pride now. He was the most dependable crime lord in the contry, he dilivered weither or not there were police involved. He had never killed a customer without reason. His ways were honorable.
She now said what was on her mind. "Your family murdered one of his."
Li sighed raggedly. "His murdered one of mine. He killed my brother and so, when his father attacked my father, he killed him as well. It was self defence." Eye for an eye she thought. This was getting intrusting to say the least.
The door on the side of the room opened suddenly and two men walked in. One was wearing a kung fu training gi and the other had a grey suit with a white shirt under that. She cocked her head curiosly at them and they both narrowed their eyes at her. "New friends of yours Li?"
Li coughed nervously and shot them both a sideways glance. Than he smiled pleasently. "Yes as a matter of fact. They are new in crime. This is Chang. Martial arts master, ex-mobile suit pilot, and assasin." The boy with the gi stared her down than returned his glare to Li. So this is who he was afraid of. Assasins didn`t care who they killed in most cases. They would take him out on a whim and not think twice about it. "This is Odin Lowe. Pretty much the same credentuals. They have come to help me with something."
Tanya nodded her head. They didn`t look like too much but they could still be dangerouse. She would have to be careful with this. "I see. It wouldn`t be helping you with the Ging family would it? Shipping gundanium is a big buisness. Your buisness hasn`t been so good lately. If that`s the case I will have to report you. It`s my duty." She swiveled her chair to look at him.
Li leaned forward in a secretive way. "You really think it`s the Ging family?"
Tanya grinned. Why would he care? She stood up and started to walk to the door than she stopped and looked at him. He was a friend, not a criminal. "Why else would he turn me away? Oh well, keep your nose clean for a while sir and as for you two," She turned on her heels to face Odin and Chang. "don`t kill anyone in my duristiction or I get it." She nodded to all three men and left.
Odin waited almost angrely until she was out of the room and the door was closed before he walked over to the desk and glared at Li. "Li you`re an idiot! No wonder you always get caught! You shouldn`t have given her all that information."
Li chuckled. Odin only intensified his glare. Li noticed this and stopped laughing. "Calm down Odin, I trust her and she`s not a cop to me, she`s a friend. That`s why I didn`t answer your call last night. She was here asking about the gundanium. She found out about the Li and the Ging family."
Chang stepped up acting a little more confident and with a grin n his face that shown in mischief. "She`s a woman, what harm can she do?"
Li let out a chuckle. "Ah, Chang, this is a woman after your own heart. She`s taken out a lot of the crime families in this area. I think she purposely leaves out information for me because we don`t kill but Ging simply gets a fancy lawyer."
Odin turned to face the door where he could see her ordering an early lunch. "Is she the head detective on this case?" Li nodded. Odin looked out the window again. "Do we know how much she knows?"
Li shook his head. "She is an expert at hiding information. From what I can tell she underwent years of intensive training. If she is the head of this case, she`ll get to the culprit before us. She`s good at getting information and if it is Ging, he`ll get away with it and start a war." Li stood up and joined Odin in watching her. "She unfortunately can`t do anything about that."
Odin crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. "That`s a chance I don`t want to take. If whoever it is can afford gundanium they can afford a lawyer to clean up their mess any day. If a policeman finds them first we won`t get to exicute justice."
Seeming to catch his meaning Li looekd up with concern on his face. "You aren`t planning on killng her? She`s like my second daughter."
Odin shook his head. "No, that would be stupid if she`s one fo the best in the squadrin. she could be an inside connection into the police forse. We can work on this together. she seems to trust you and you her."
Li turned to him looking exasperated. Odin stayed nutrual. "But we have an inside connection!"
Chang grinned slightly in amusment. "He isn`t of any use to us because we have to pay him. Also, he can help us get her."
Odin walked around the room, tapping his gun as he went and finally leaned on the table. "I would suggest that you listen to us Li. The woman won`t get hurt." Li looked at the gun than at the sword Chang had strapped to his belt and nodded reluctantly. Seemingly satisfied, Odin stood up staright and looked out the window again. Tanya was eating in small bites and on occation would take a sip of tea. Odin grinned. "That is, if she cooperates."
