Aislyn got back into her car and placed her notebook on the passenger seat where she intended it to be found. She took a deep breath, picturing where she was going before putting her key into the ignition.
It was almost sunset. It would be as perfect as that sort of an act can be; planned as well as an imprudent marriage based solely on passion. She would rather base such a decision on feelings than anything else – she could prove feelings, they were what made her laugh, cry or go completely crazy. If she had to plan the rest of her life on anything, it would be emotion.
She had been where she was going enough times to make the driving mechanical. All sorts of things began running through her mind. She saw the time that she was little and took Katherine’s brother’s skateboard, only to fall off of it five feet after she got on. She still had a scar on her forearm where she hit the pavement. The scene replayed translucently over her vision as if a video recorder in her mind had caught it all for this exact moment.
She saw holidays with her family, school plays with her drama club peers, concerts with her friends, going to art galleries by herself. Times where she was made fun of and absolutely humiliated played through devoid of a fast forward button. Instances where she was praised for good deeds or original artwork went by in slow motion. It was as though her subconscious knew her plans and decided to make the ‘life flashing before your eyes’ cliché a reality.
Just when she thought that she might go insane from the moving pictures of her past, she arrived.
