A grandmother knows everything.
No, not all the little things;
she doesn't know the capital of Ecuador
or the square root of sixty-three.
She knows what really matters.
She knows you always mean well;
she knows behind your tears and anger
lie love and kindness and more;
She will listen to your troubles and have
a lifetime of wisdom to bring to you;
She will understand your dreams
and pray that they come true;
She has seen her children grow up
and knows you will do as well.
She knew the best sweets and games
to play when you were small;
She was the first person to know
when you had grown up.

Meet my gram - Maud Alice Shier, nee Fletcher. You'll find her recipes in their place on the site, she's mentioned on the Cinderella page and she'll appear in the genealogy and writing sections when I get around to doing them too. You'll find her all over the place but most prominently, you'll find her in my heart. She crossed over to a better world more than 22 years ago and still she's part of my everyday life. Sometimes I hear her whisper, 'He's just a child', when I'm running out of patience with my pre-schooler. I know she's smiling when she hears me singing in my hopelessly off-key excuse for a voice. I'm certain that she must be pitching in a hand from time to time when I'm at the stove since there's no way I could produce half the results I do on my own! I would not be the person I am today if she had not been my gramma, and she belongs here with me.
I could write reams about her and still never convince you of the absolute truth - that there has never been a better grandmother, and never will be. Instead, let me show you a little of her love.
"I love ya', honey!"
