You can lay the foundation of friendship in a matter of moments, but it is a work of time to build a monument.

Marian
How likely do you suppose it is that you and your best friend will share the same birthday? That's just one of many things that Mare and I found we had in common when we met at the age of seventeen. Since then, we've had our ups and downs and sometimes we're just a little too much alike, but when I think "sister" she's the one who comes to mind. Even when we don't see eye to eye, she's still family. Kahlil Gibran said that when your friend is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart. I swear he was talking about us.

Tina
I think all the credit for this friendship goes to Tina. I met her 20 years ago when she came back from a visit to her mom's and found me temporarily living at her house! When I moved back to my home province, she's the one who kept writing until I finally wrote back. Since then we've exchanged about 569,327 pages of our lives, a lot of laughter and some tears here and there. It's not always easy maintaining a friendship when you're thousands of miles apart, but we do a pretty good job. Sometimes what you love most in a person is clearer in her absence.

John
Okay, enough mushy crap! Meet John, my honey's best friend for 34 years now. I even kind of like him myself! It's amazing that they've managed to stay friends so long, considering that neither of them has the slightest problem with telling you exactly what they think. Maybe that's why! One of my favorite things about them together is listening to them tell stories - it's always entertaining. My favorite thing about John himself is that he's probably the only other person on earth that knows what it's like to live with Ernest and keep caring about him anyway! This is an old photo, and I have to say he improves with age. He also keeps a clean house, holds a steady job and stays in shape. Did I mention he's single? And you saw my e-mail link right?!!
