A Tribute to the Soldier of the Heavens

Haruka Ten'ou, or Amara as she is known in the North American dub, is one of the four Outer Senshi. The original mission of the Outer Senshi was to protect outside evils (evils that came from places outside the solar system) from entering the solar system. Each member of the Outer Senshi has a distinctive weapon or talisman and each has a distinctive part of their uniform that sets them apart from the Inner Senshi. Uranus' is her single earring, though when she dresses more as a girl, or is in her senshi form, she has two gold earrings. Her talisman is the Space Sword, with which she has two attacks.

She has a tendency to act and even dress like a man, for undisclosed reasons. She is romantically involved with another of the Outer Senshi, Sailor Neptune, also known as Michiru Kaiou. Michiru was the first senshi Haruka met prior to her own transformation as a Sailor Senshi. They grew very close, and made it their mission to seek out the talisman holders-- supposedly people with pure hearts. Little did they know that they themselves were the legendary talisman holders. When Michiru performs in concert, (she is a famous violinist) she often duets with Haruka, who plays piano.

Haruka is physically active, being pro in racecar and motorcycle driving, and excellent in track and field. In fact, it was her skills in racecar driving at the Crown Game Center that allowed her to meet the Inner Senshi. The first Inner she met was Minako Aino, Sailor Venus, though neither of them knew of the other's Sailor identities. Minako, along with many of the other Inners, thought Haruka was a guy and started crushing on Haruka. Haruka has a particular fondness for Usagi, whom she calls "Odango Atama", as Mamoru had in Season 1. She thought the other Inners were "cute".

As the new enemy had just appeared in Season 3, (Sailormoon Super) Sailors Uranus and Neptune were merely shadows with powerful attacks relating to the heavens and water. They never mentioned their identities or mission, but that was soon revealed as the series progressed.

Loyal to her mission and Michiru, Haruka is willing to do anything -even at the cost of her own, or another's life. If it will keep the peace of the Earth and avert destruction, Haruka will do whatever is necessary.

In the manga, the Outers immediately accept Usagi as the Princess, and aren't as callous as they appear in the anime. In the anime, which is considered the "darkest" season of Sailormoon, the Outers are relentless in their mission, even going as far as keeping a heart crystal from an innocent person, who does not hold a talisman.

The fan perspective on Haruka seems to be three-sided: many people don't like the idea of two senshi being romantically involved with one another, others don't care, and still more approve of it wholeheartedly. In the fanfiction world, before the Super dub came out, Haruka was often referred to as Alex, short for either Alexia, Alexa, or more commonly, Alexandra or Alexandria. In some rare cases, Haruka's fanfiction "dub name" was Eric, short for Erica. However, once the dub came out, Haruka's name became Amara. This goes against the Tokyopop/Mixx publications of the
Meet: Sailor ______ guides, where Sailor Uranus is consistently referred to as Haruka. However, the name given to Haruka by Irwinn toys was Corrin.

Very little is mentioned about Haruka's parents, but the fact that she lives in a rather pricey condo at the Infinity Bank tells readers that she is well-off, and was either left an inheritance, or her parents support her. Either that, or she has a job. Some people speculate that she wins races and recieves the prize money, but because she is under the legal age, and the outcome of a race is always doubtful, (considering there are always daimon attacks at the most inconvenient times) it is more likely she has an inheritance or family member that pays for everything.

The condos at the Infinity Bank are three in number, with Michiru and Setsuna living in the other two respectively. They both attend the nearby, private Infinity Academy, also known as Mugen Gakuen. It is assumed that they have attended there for a while, because the school houses all the grades from kindergarten to university. However, it is the home to the corrupt Souchi Tomoe and his band of creations-- Super Beings.

Once the school is destroyed at the end of the S series, Haruka attends Year 1 (1 year above the Inners) Senior High School in the same building as the Inners-- Juuban High, or Crossroads. Michiru, however, opts to attend a Private School as she did before meeting Haruka. All of the senshi end up in the same school by the Sailorstars arc. (This is, of course, excepting Setsuna, who is far too old to be attending high school... she's working at a university!)

Haruka was "discovered" by Michiru when a man working on her car in a shop was attacked and transformed into a daimon. Michiru warned Haruka not to touch the wand glowing in front of her, as it would seal her fate, but Haruka didn't listen. The two of them paired up ever since. She is quite loyal to both Michiru and the two Moon Princesses, Usagi and Chibiusa. In the manga, she is one of the fiercest protectors of Serenity, in all of her forms.

Haruka is believed to be the strongest -physically- of the Senshi. Having beaten Makoto and not being all-too nice to Mamoru, she is one tough cookie, which means as a Senshi, she's even more deadly.
