Happy Birthday Hotaru-chan!
* Capricorn, Hotaru's "constellation" is ruled by the Goat, whose horns fall off in the same manner that Hotaru gets reborn again and again! You gotta wonder though, if she keeps on getting reborn over and over, does she have the same birthday? Hotaru Tomoe, also known as Sailor Saturn, the Messiah of Silence, is the Melancholic Fighter. It is her duty to end the world as we know it should fate reach the point of no return. She did this in her previous incarnation back in the Silver Millenium. In the manga, she is summoned when the three talismans get get together-- the thing the Outer Senshi desperately want to avoid. In the anime, she is summoned when Mistress 9 overtakes her body, and in order to save her newfound friend, Chibiusa, she must awaken. Hotaru Tomoe, in her current incarnation, was born to Souichi and Keiko Tomoe. However, Hotaru's mother, Keiko, was killed in a construction fire at the Infinity Banks when Hotaru was only 8. The fire left Hotaru in critical condition, and, according to the manga, in need of the Taioron Crystal, which links her soul to Mistress 9. She isn't completely human, because her father's experiments have turned her into somewhat of a cyborg. Her father's work was Super Beings, and after he was expelled from the educational establishment, he bought the Infinity Bank and funded the Reclamation Project. He also opened up a school of his own, the Mugen Gakuen, which all of the Witches 5 attend, as well as Hotaru (grade 6), Michiru Kaiou (grade 10 - Sailor Neptune) and Haruka Ten'ou(grade 10 - Sailor Uranus). Because Souichi sold his soul to Master Pharaoh 90 in order to save Hotaru, he is completely corrupted by a powerful daimon. In the manga, he is killed, but in the manga, he is healed by Super Sailormoon. Hotaru, because of her unique ability to heal injuries, was an outcast, and often very lonely. However, Chibiusa, back in the 20th century in order to train, befriended her, and the two became inseperable. However, Hotaru's shady past, and her corrupt father led to a break in the friendship once Hotaru's body was taken over by Mistress 9. Hotaru, as Sailor Saturn, was summoned by the Outers once Mistress 9 began wreaking havoc on the city. She fulfilled her duty and destroyed Mistress 9 and Master Pharoah 90, and was supposed to die afterwards, but Super Sailormoon followed her into the heart of Master Pharoah 90 and saved her-- though Hotaru was returned to the form of a baby. However, once her powers were needed again as the Soldier of Silence, she started aging rapidly, up to the point where she last left off (about age 13). She physically remains the same in appearance -and she also has the same healing ability which makes her physically weak after using it. --
Manga Only Transformations: * Make Up! is only
used in the original Japanese anime/manga. Items: * The Silence Glaive is based off of the mytholological scythe which Zeus used to castrate Chronos with. However, Hotaru's Silence Glaive is deadly whether she wields it in an attack or as a physical weapon. Contrary to popular belief, Naoko Takeuchi (creator of Sailormoon) didn't switch the roles of Sailorpluto and Sailorsaturn-- Saturn, the god of agriculture in Roman mythology, often was prayed to for crop success-- the death and rebirth of the living plants that humans depended on. Likewise, he was shown with a sickle/scythe to cut grain with, rather than as the weapon that Zeus/Jupiter castrated him with. More on this can be found at DIES GAUDII. ** Hotaru's transformation has never been seen in the anime. However, many games feature her transforming, but all the same, a wand is never shown. In the manga, she does transform using words, but only after she has recieved her Super power-up. Even then, she does not have a wand. Attacks: The first three attacks can be found in both the anime and the manga. I'm not sure about what the dub's translations of these attacks are though. * The attack first attack Sailor Saturn uses is "Death Ribbon Revolution". NOT "Death Reborn Revolution", "Death Reborn Resolution", or "Death Ribbon Resolution". The kana for her attack (as well as the pronunciation of it in the anime) is De-su Ri-bon Reboruchyon. "Ri-bon" may sound like "Reborn", but considering that millions of ribbons surround her when she does this attack, and they are all revolving (in a "revolution"!), "ribbon" makes more sense. In the manga, Hotaru and Chibiusa go to the same school, but are in different classes. Hotaru is often seen sporting a black uniform of sorts, or actually, anything black. She uses the dark color to cover up her multiple scars and cybornetic implants. However, once she is reborn, she is fully human, and no longer a Vessel for Mistress 9. The Outer Senshi (Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune) vow to raise her so she will never have to use her destructive attack ever again. In the anime, Souichi Tomoe has lost all memory of being under the control of Master Pharaoh 90, and so raises Hotaru himself while he recuperates from his injuries. Last Updated
