Happy Birthday Rei-chan!
"In the name of Mars, I'll chastise you!" And she can, considering this fiery-tempered girl is the reincarnate of the Senshi of Mars! With the power of fire at her fingers, Rei Hino, otherwise known as Sailor Mars, can read fire, make predictions, and of course, burn stuff to smoldering ashes. As the Passionate Fighter, she has lots of goals, the least of which include being a seiyuu (voice actress), actress, singer, songwriter... but overall, she wants to be the Chief Priestess at her family's shrine on Sendai Hill, also known as Hikawa Jinja, or the Cherry Hill Temple. The temple is a traditional Shinto temple, passed on down Rei's mother's side. Rei's mother died of a weak heart when the younger Hino was very young; apparently the death traumatized Rei's father, a politcian, and he stopped visiting Rei. Custodial rights of Rei were given to Rei's grandfather on her mother's side.
Rei has two pet crows, Phobos and Deimos. They just happened to be named after the two moons of Mars... which are named after two Greek gods that Mars (the God of War) sired. Phobos means "Fear", and Deimos means "Panic". Coincidentally (I think not), Rei's castle as Princess Mars is called Phobos Deimos Castle. As a Princess, her guardians are not lookalikes of her Super Senshi form, unlike the other senshi-- Phobos and Deimos are both her guardians, and they give Rei her Heart Crystal so she can power up into Super Sailor Mars. --
Manga Only * Make Up! is only used in the original Japanese anime/manga. Items: Attacks: * Rei, as a
priestess, has access to spiritual wards and demon
banishing scrolls that she uses both as Rei and as Sailor
Mars. In the dub, they made her Shinto banishing phrase
into an attack called "Mars Fireballs Charge" Like Minako and Mamoru, Rei is very different in the anime and the manga. She's really a bit more snobby and rude in the anime, while in the manga, she is elegant, refined, mature, and Usagi even suspects she's the Princess (the irony). But deep down, she's loyal, and cares a lot for her friends and her family. As Rei, she can be rather mean, and sometimes even funny, as she often acts as immaturely as Usagi by playing the tongue-stick-out game. However, as Sailor Mars, nothing will stop her from suceeding at her mission, as she has a deep loyalty to Sailor Moon and the cause they fight for. Rei, like Minako, doesn't attend the same school as the other girls. Rather, she goes to T.A. First Girl's School, an all-girls school that is like a Christian academy. (kinda strange considering Rei wants to be a Shinto priestess...) In the anime, however, it is not a Christian school, but simply a girl's private school. In the dub, however, it is implied that the school is co-ed. When she first appears in episode 10 (7 in the American version), she is in Grade 8, only a year under Unazuki/Lizzy, Motoki/Andrew's sister, who is introduced in Season 2, Part 2. Rei never does attend school with the other senshi, and might feel slightly seculded because of that. However, she is the "Queen" of her school, so her popularity might make up for that a little. During the manga "SuperS" arc, after the Outer Senshi leave to take care of baby Hotaru, the Inners develop new attacks. All of the Inners, save Minako, do this by thinking of the Outers, who were their inspiration in many ways. Mars thinks of Neptune, telling her to stretch a single piece of string across her heart... and then use all her body and soul to... release her fatal arrow! Thus, the Mars Flame Sniper was born.
