Happy Birthday Yaten-kun!
* Though Yaten's name means "Night Sky Light" his stage name while performing is "Night Star Light". Kou Yaten is the oldest of the three Sailor Starlights, three of the most popular senshi in the series of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. However, Yaten is also the most arrogant, conceited, and the one with the biggest attitude problem. Maybe it is because he isn't the leader (Seiya/Sailor StarFighter is), maybe it's because he's so bishounen. In any case, Yaten is both loved, hated, and respected by many. A side note on the gender issue: Takeuchi Naoko-sama reportedly professed her disgust with the animators at Toei Animations Ltd., when they changed the Starlights from female to male. According to Ms. Takeuchi, they were to remain as female throughout the Stars, p2 series, and cause the same kind of trouble in the Usagi/Mamoru relationship as Haruka did in Sailor Moon S. Proof of this can be seen in the Art Book, Volume V, when the Starlights are shown in human form -female human form. In addition, like Haruka, the Starlights are extremely tomboyish, and the only reason why girls "love" them so is the same reason why many girls idolize Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera- because they are popular, pretty (in the Starlight's case, bishounen) and rich. In the anime, the Stars transform (somewhat obviously) from males to females. When Princess Kakyuu finally makes the scene, and asks the Starlights why they chose the form they did, they said it was to make finding her easier. It's true, too... if you needed to find a girl, what better way than to be a popular boy band? --
Manga Only Items: *Yes, Microphone. Not pen, not wand, but microphone. Very handy if you're a pop superstar that goes around wearing black leather saving teenage girls in miniskirts... Attacks: Back to Yaten-kun! Like the other Stars, his element/power of influence is Light, but in a different respect than Light vs. Darkness. Rather, it is literal light, his/her attack being "Star Sensitive Inferno". Unlike the other "mysterious" senshi, Yaten and the other Stars are YOUNGER -than the Inners, the Outers, the Animates and Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen. When they arrive in Tokyo, they are in Year 1 of Senior High School, while Usagi is technically entering Year 2 -or Grade 11. Yaten has type B blood, and due to his birthdate, is an Aquarius, like Haruka. His hobby happens to be photography (of what, I wonder?), his favorite color is light blue (though sometimes it is blue or yellow), and he likes to eat Caviar (whatever you say Yaten...). His favorite school subject is Art, while his dislikes include Physical Education, Physical Exertion and Sweating (sounds like a mix between Ami-chan and Hotaru-chan, ne?). When onstage, Yaten is in charge of the keyboard arrangements. Yaten is very nice to Luna, before he finds out her relation to the Senshi, and possibly even after. Luna, in turn, develops a crush on Yaten, and that makes Artemis extremely jealous (what goes around comes around...). Yaten's transformation phrase is rather simple: "Healer Star Power, Make up!".
