The Phoenix Rising Saga Part III- Solar Eclipse

Sailor Moon sat there in awe as she just let the world go by.  I have a sister?  But, then my dreams…They are true!

Kaori helped Adana back to her car once all the fighting was over.  The rest of the girls were gathering their things as they came down the tremendous stone steps.  Adana hopped up into her Jeep as Darien got into his sports car.  She rolled down the window so that she could have a last chance to talk to the temple maiden.  Kaori leaned her arm up on the window edge, and spoke quietly to the fiery redhead.

“You know, you cannot go on like this forever, Adana.  You have to fulfill your destiny.”

“I know, Kaori, I know.  If I prolong this anymore I will die. But the fact of the matter is I am not afraid to die.  I just want to find the Princess and go back and save the future.” Adana sighed as she spoke.  She looked out over the mountains. The sun was beginning to set, and god painted a beautiful picture in red and orange watercolors.

“Do you know what Shoji means Adana?  It is a Japanese screen, a veil .  Remember that sometimes things are veiled from our eyes.  We have to find them.  Seek them out.”  The young woman explained.  She took her arm from off of the edge of the window and walked back up the stairs that the girls were now walking down.

The temple maiden bowed slightly at the young women who were scampering down the stairs.

“May the future find you well, and safe journey.  I hope to see you all again some time soon.” Kaori walked up the steps, quietly out of sight.  Mina, Lita, Ami, and Serena hopped into Adana’s car while Rei opened up the door to Darien’s.

“Hey guys, I think today calls for a celebration!  Ice Cream anyone?”  The girls seemed to perk up.  They were all quite troubled over the events of the day—their entrance exams, the shrine, the events with Sailor Sun being Adana, but deep down inside, they were still just teenage girls looking for a good time.  A sly smile crept across Serena’s face.

“I am game!  We deserve it!” she thrust her fist into the air like a triumphant Spartan.  The rest of the girls just laughed.

“That is our Serena always thinking with her stomach!” quipped Lita.  Everyone laughed just a little bit as Adana started the engine and started down the road.

Most of the ride was in silence.  The driver marveled at the changing scenery.  Mountains blended nicely into countryside and finally into city.  Living in Minato-ku, they had to travel all the way across Tokyo into Chiba on the bay.  But the quickness of the expressway could not take away from the beauty in Adana’s eyes.  But, her revelry was short lived. Her wandering mind was interrupted by a poignantly asked question.

“I don’t see why you kept this a secret from us. Why did you tell Darien?  Why should he know and not us?” asked Serena as she stared out the window.  Adana just shook her head but kept her eyes on the road.

“It was not a good time.  I was hoping not to get any of you involved.  I was sent here on a suicide mission.  You see Serena, I need to find your sister to save the future.  She has the other half of the Imperium Silver Crystal and at this point it is the only thing that can save you.” Adana said slowly.  She let out a slight sigh and continued.  “I don’t think you will understand.  I don’t expect you to.  The fact of the matter is I am trying to save the future.  Your future Serena.” Serena crossed her arms and gave a small glare to Adana, which she caught in the rear view mirror.

“And what, Darien was just part of the package?” Lita let out a small gasp.

“Serena! Is that really called for?” she said. Adana just shook her head.

“You know Serena, you have a point.  Don’t think I was going out and searching him out.  “To be honest, that was far from my intention.  I am sorry if I have hurt you in anyway, but believe me Serena, taking your frustration out on me will do you no good.  Before you know it I will be gone and I will no longer be a threat to you.  I will be out of your life forever.  Happy?” she got a little short with the young girl and felt a little bad about it.

“Look, can we just put this behind us?  I don’t want you holding a grudge against me.”  Serena just looked at Adana.

“It hurts me to see you together.  Darien is my man.  I love him.  More than you can possibly imagine.” A few small tears welded up in her eyes.  The rest of the car just sat there, silent.  Mina put her arm around Serena’s shoulder and leaned the young girls head toward her own shoulder.

“Serena, you are young yet, so you do not quite understand.  I have seen the future.  I have seen you sacrifice your own life for your love of Darien.  I have seen you sacrifice for those you don’t even know.  I have also known your regret.  Just trust me when I tell you this is for your own good.  You will thank me later.”  Serena just let the few tears fall.

“I can never compete with you.  Now he will not want me back!  You are perfect Adana.  You are pretty, smart, you are close to his age. You can go for him round for round.  He won’t want me after you!”

“Oh, Serena, don’t say that!  Everything will work out I promise.  If there is one thing I am not allowed to do it is to severely alter the future.  Cheer up!  I will buy you anything you want ice cream wise.  That will make you feel better, ne?” Adana smiled at Serena, who then cracked a small smile back.

“Everything will be ok.  I promise.” Added Adana as Mina wiped a tear away from Serena’s face.

“Besides Serena, this will give you time to date!  You shouldn’t bog yourself down with one guy for the rest of your life.  Have a little fun!” Lita smiled at Serena.

“You are right. Maybe I should live a little.  I am sorry I was so rude, Adana.  I was just upset that is all.”

By the time they were finished, Adana was rounding the corner by Crown Game Plaza, their final destination.  She crept up as close to the back end of Darien’s car and put the Jeep in park.  Opening her door slowly she turned to Ami, who was in the passengers seat.

“Well, this is ya’ll’s final destination.  Everybody out!” Adana slammed the door and made her way to the awning. Darien was standing there with Rei, his arms crossed and a slight smile on his face.

“Dar, can you do me a favor?  Can you tell them about me?  Just skim the surface, they will get it.”  By that time all the girls had gathered around them.

“I am tired.  I am going home.  Call me later?” Adana touched Darien’s arm and turned to walk away.  Serena was standing behind her.  She reached into her wallet and handed the young blond 1000 yen, smiling ever so slightly.

“Will this cover?”  Serena’s eyes widened slightly at the generosity.

“Will it?  I might even get to play a few rounds of the Sailor V game too!” Serna lowered her voice “I am so sorry about earlier.”  Adana slashed one of her perfect smiles at the young girl.

“I forgive you for feeling the way you do.  Just in the future remember what I said. For now you are free.” She turned, walked to her Jeep and drove off.

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z

When she returned to her mansion, Adana had to fumble at the lock.  After a moment or too she realized that the lock was already unlocked.  Wary of the events of earlier that day, she unsheathed the newly acquired do-chi and was poised for what she may encounter.  As quietly as a butterfly, the fiery redhead closed the door and removed her shoes.  She crept down the main hallway and into the living room.  A person was sitting on her couch.

“Adana, I see you are home.  You know how long I have been waiting for you?  You are supposed to be resting.  Not gallivanting and trying to save the world.” Setsuna turned around and ran her fingers through her long green hair. “And put that silly sword away before you hurt someone.  I know what you can do with that thing, and I do not want to be at the brunt end of  it!  So how did it go?”

Adana made her way to the other side of the couch and sat next to her best friend. She let out a slight exasperated sigh and lay down on the tanned leather sofa, placing her head in Setsuna’s lap. She looked out the big picture window that overlooked the Tokyo skyline.

“Setsuna, why am I doing this?  I mean why was I brought back?  I know it was foretold, but haven’t I done enough damage?  Now I am causing trouble for Serena and her friends. God!  I hate this!  Why couldn’t they just keep out of it!”  Adana nearly shouted at the tall vixen.

“She is just too curious for her own good.  Serena will grow out of it.  That you know.”

“I am not so sure she grows out of it, Sets.  I mean, I am here aren’t I?”  the two let out a slight laugh.

“I think she will eventually grow out of it in a few hundred years or so.  Until then we just have to put up with her.” Stated the senpai as she stroked Adana’s hair.  Adana let out another sigh.

“Correction, you have to deal with her.  I will not be around much longer.” A frown came across Adana’s face. “Setsuna, when I die do you think Adana will die too?  I mean, when I took over her body her soul had already left it, but do you think a part of me will stay.  The part that is now Adana that is.  The one with all of her thoughts, feelings, and emotions?” her face began to show for the first time since her reincarnation fear and sorrow.  A tear dropped down her cheek and off her nose leaving what looked like a tiny river down her face.

“Adana, all those things are yours now.  I have no idea what will happen to Adana when you leave.  I am not at liberty to predict the future…” her voice trailed off as she looked down at her friend who was now quietly sobbing in her lap.

I just wish I could tell you everything will be all right, Adana, but I just can’t.  In my right mind I can’t and believe me, it pains me just as much as you to not know what is going to happen.  Your being here has already severely altered the future.  I am not sure how much more damage you could do.

But Setsuna didn’t say anything.  She just let the girl cry herself to sleep, which, considering her state, was not long. Setsuna gently lifted the girl’s head off her lap, and moved to put a blanked over her.  Suddenly, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony came faintly ringing thought the air.  Sets looked down to see Adana’s keitai sticking part way out of her pocket.  She gingerly picked it up as not to wake the sleeping girl and answered the phone.

“Hai. Moshi Moshi?”
“Ah, Adana?” a male voice came ringing across the line.

“I am sorry she is sleeping right now.  This is Setsuna.”

“Hey Setsuna!  It is Darien.  What’s up?” the woman walked into the kitchen so that she would not bother her sleeping friend.

“Not much and yourself? Oh, how was your day by the way?” Setsuna opened the fridge and looked in.  Adana had very little food in the fridge.  Typical.  She loved eating out especially with her friends.

“Oh, Adana didn’t tell you?  We meet this temple maiden, Kaori and the others found out about Sailor Sun.” the young woman had a bottle of honey-lemon Nachan in her hand and when she heard the news she dropped the bottle.  Her eyes widened, as she quickly leaned over to pick up the bottle she had just dropped

“They found out?  How? Why?” she sat down on one of the mahogany kitchen chairs and switched the phone to her other hand.  Placing the bottle between her knees, she used her new free hand to open it up.  She carefully raised it to her lips and took a swig as the top dropped from her knee to the floor.

“Yeah, well, we had a visitor and she just transformed.  After the whole ordeal she left me to do all the explaining.  I told them just the bare minimums so that they wouldn’t ask too many questions, but being the girls that they are, they asked a million questions.  Thank goodness Andrew was there to save me.  You see, the new Sailor V game just came in and they all wanted to play it.  That is when I was able to slip out and call...” Setsuna wasn’t really listening, she was to busy drinking.  After the sweet drink passed by her lips she knew why Adana was addicted to the stuff.  It was really tasty. In here revelry, she didn’t even realize that Darien was telling about what the girls did and didn’t know.  With a snap, she came back to reality.

“Nan da?  Oh, can you repeat that?”

“Were you even listening Setsuna?” Darien was getting a little upset.  He had just gone through this long explanation and here she wasn’t even listening.

“Sorry. My mind was elsewhere for the time being.  So how much do they know? Honestly Darien.” Setsuna got up and retrieved the bottle cap that had thus rolled half way across the kitchen floor after dropping off her knee.

“Well, they know what her purpose here is.  There was only so much I could tell them.  You know, that she was from the past, and that, like them she had be reincarnated in the future.  I didn’t tell them anything else for fear they might not trust her.” Darien finished quickly so that she would keep Setsuna’s attention.

“What we really need to do is buy her some time.  That is what she really needs at this point is enough time to gather her bearings and find Serena’s sister and get back to the future in a matter of speaking.” She wandered out of the kitchen and down the hall to the AV room.

“Damn….” She let out a sigh as she looked around the immense room.

“What is it?” Darien asked a little feverishly.

“Have you been in her AV room?  Damn, this girl has got the hook..up!”  Setsuna jumped up and landed on the other side of a large leather sofa.  She lounged in the softness, and again switched the phone holding hands.

“Come on, Setsuna!  Let us get a grip here!  What are we going to do about Adana?”

“Ok, here is what we are going to do.  We are going to let you and the rest of the Sailor Scouts handle the negaverse goons and we are going to let Adana handle the finding of the princess.  Maybe I will head up to Shoji tomorrow and visit Ookami myself and see what we can do.”

                “Ookami…?” questioned Darien.

“Ookami, Kaori, whatever she is calling herself these days.  You know, she and I have been friends for a really long time.”

“Yes, that is because you have been around for a really long time.” He laughed.

“Hey!  That is not funny!”  She picked up a remote control and tried to figure out what it was for. After much deliberation she realized that it was to the stereo. Darien sighed on the other end of the phone.

“If that is what you think is best.  Well, I guess I will let you go now.  It seems you have more on your mind than Adana.  Ja, oyasumi.”

“Ok, Darien.  Ja, mata ne?”  She clicked the on the hang up button and put the little phone down.  What she really wanted right now was a nap and a cold beer, but she knew that the cold beer wasn’t the best plan of action. Setsuna put her arms up over her head and stretched them out as far as she could.

Maybe I will just fetch the Nachan and catch a flick here.  Hell, Adana has to have a lot of movies in this place, if not she has satellite or something.

Getting up from her comfortable perch, Setsuna made her way to the kitchen where she left her drink.  As she did, she peered into the living room to see what Adana was up to.  She had turned over in her sleep and was now facing the back of the couch.

Good.  I am safe for now.  I can watch a movie, and she will not be disturbed. Now for that drink…

In the AV room, Setsuna found many movies that she had been meaning to watch.  She found the remote control that operated the 45-inch plasma screen TV that was mounted on the wall.  She turned it on and started channel surfing. Passing by variety shows and TV dramas she came across something she had not seen in a long time, Strawberry on the Shortcake.  Now that was one of the few TV dramas she could sink her teeth into.

Maybe I will watch that movie later…

Adana woke with a start as light flooded into her room.  Looking around, she noticed that she was on the couch, the exact spot where she had he head in Setsuna’s lap just the evening before.  She sat up, dropping the pink blanket to the floor, got up, and went to the window.

Is it 6 ish already?  Why is it that the sun has to come up so early?

She turned and walked into the kitchen looking for a bite to eat.  The fridge door was slightly ajar.  Turning to look around, she noticed no one, so, she closed the door and walked out of the kitchen into the hall.  The TV was on in the AV room.  Peering through the door, she noticed the news was on.  Adana walked over to the couch and found Setsuna, curled up in a ball, remote control in her hand. The red head smiled slightly.  She gently pried the remote out of her friend’s hand and turned off the TV. Quietly, she got a blanket out of the hall closet and covered her friend.  Setsuna stirred slightly, but never woke up.  With a smile crossing past her lips, Adana proceeded to her room for a shower.

Like every morning, Adana had plenty of time to get ready.  Unlike everyone else in her school, she lived really close. She had planned it that way.  When she decided to come to Japan for America she had to take the same high school entrance exam that every other student in Japan had to, plus she had to take the level one Japanese exam.  It was easy for her because Adana had been taking Japanese since she was 7.  It is a little early for a child to learn a second language, but her mother had insisted.  Her mother spoke 6 languages fluently, Adana could speak three: Spanish, English, and Japanese.  Of them all she loved Japanese the best.  Maybe it was the fact that there is a very polite language and a regular, everyday spoken word.  She was always intrigued by that fact.  The only thing that had been a little hard was the kanji, but then again, she started at such a young age that she had no problems later down the line.

She chose a new uniform out of the closet and went for her dresser.  She was tired of how prim and proper she was.  Every pair of socks neatly folded, every skirt pressed, every jacket like new.  Sighing, she chose a pair of socks out of the drawer and put them on.  When she was satisfied, the red head moved to her vanity.  Picking her hair up high on her head, she fastened it with a tie so that it would arch high in the air. She put herSheshgfnfjfufhhgjgfjShe put on just a little make –up and proceeded to the kitchen for breakfast.

Opening the fridge she noticed that there was barely any food, but Adana couldn’t find her Nachan.

I really have to get some food…and some drinks! I am horrible at the shopping thing.  Maybe if I wasn’t so tired or busy all the time I might get more done. I don’t have class this afternoon, maybe I will go shopping…

Adana wondered back into the AV room.  Setsuna was sound asleep.  She leaned over her green haired friend and noticed two things.  Reaching out for the table she snagged it.

“Aha! My Nachan!” she said quietly.  She picked up the bottle, but there was no hope.  It was empty.  Shaking it to make sure there was really nothing left, she put it back on the table and picked up her keitai. Turning it on it just beeped at her.  It was dead.

“That stuff is really good.” Mumbled Setsuna from the couch.  She turned over, and smiled at Adana.

“What time is it?” she sat up.

“About 7.30.  You want breakfast?  I was thinking of going to Bontour down the street for breakfast.  I am buying.  Or maybe you should for drinking my Nachan!” Setsuna could feel Adana’s eyes staring playfully into her. “And what are you doing with my keitai?  It has very important stuff in it!  A keitai is private.” Adana spoke as she snatched the cellular phone up.

“If you must know, Darien called last night.  I answered the call and talked with him for a while. By the way, how are you feeling this morning?  A little better?” Setsuna got up and stretched.

“Yeah, well time is ticking, so is it bagel sandwiches and cappuccinos or what?” they smiled at each other and raced for the door.

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z

Wandering through the halls as they usually did this time of day, Adana and Kumiko were chitchatting. Kumiko was the epitome of a Ko-garu.  Her hair was bleached to a strange beigeish-orange, and she had a hairpiece that made her short hair come down into a perfectly curled ponytail.  Her face was stained a medium brown from the tanning bed, her make-up just a little over done and pasty pale green so that it would not clash with her school uniform.  Kumiko’s 120 cm socks were pulled up just bellow her knees, and her keitai was permanently attached to her hand.

“So, how are you and Darien doing?” asked the Ko-garu.

“We are fine.  Nothing much is going on.”

“You know you can do so much better than him. Have you noticed Kenjiro lately? He is totally checking you out!  It also doesn’t help that he is such a hottie!” Kumiko giggled. Adana sighed.

                “I don’t know.  Sometimes I wonder…”

“Well, if he is that good, then stay with him.”

“Kumiko!” Adana smacked the girl’s arm playfully.

“What you need is a make over andsome good shopping time.  You need to forget about him and see Japan for what is really important.  The Men!”

“Maybe we will go this afternoon, ne?” Kumiko shook her head and grabbed Adana by the arm.

“You are so dense!” she started running down the hall dragging the redhead with her. “I mean now!” Adana shook her arm loose.

“Un uh.  I can’t cut class.” A cross look came her way.

“Welcome to the real world.  It is not here that you get your education, it is in juken.  Cram school.  Come on! You actually learn something in these classes.  We are going now and that is final!” Kumiko lifted her keitai and started pushing buttons.

“I am inviting a few friends, so just chill, Addie.  Everything will be daijobu.”

Adana sighed, smiled and gave out a little giggle.

“Let me get my bag.  Meet you at the front in 5?”

They boarded the near empty train, and grabbed a seat.  Kumiko placed her bag on her lap then grabbed her mirror out of her bag.  She flipped it open and began messing with her hair.  It is not that anything was out of place, it was just force of habit.

“So,” she began, ”where are we going?  Ginza? Shibuya?  Shinjuku? You name the place.  We are meeting the others at 2.00 in Shibuya.  They were in the middle of a test they just couldn’t walk out of.  You want lunch?  I am a little hungry.” Kumiko was talking a mile a minute, which was normal for her.

“How about Ikebukero?  I hear that the Tobu Depato is having a huge sale!  Anyway, I have been meaning to go to Sunshine City for a long time.  Ok, ever since I got here.” Adana smiled and settled back into her seat.

“That is all well and good, but I am a little peko peko!  I need food.  What is it?  Do you run on vapors or something?” the nihonjin put down her mirror and glanced at her companion.  Adana then rolled her eyes.

“Ok, ok!  We will grab a bite to eat? Tobu then?”

                “Fine.  Tobu it is!”

The Tobu department store complex is an impressive structure.  Spanning both the upper levels of the largest train station on earth, and Metropolitan Plaza, it is a great place to visit.  Even better if you want to shop! That is exactly what these two high school girls were up to.  They caught a bite at a little coffee shop on the lower level of Metropolitan Plaza and continued their quest to Tobu.  Walking in and out of little sections they tried on, commented on, and bought many various items. When they tired of Tobu they proceeded to Sunshine City where they did the same.  Like typical students, they shopped till they could find nothing more to buy, they moved on.  Before they new it, 2.00 had rolled around and they had to be in Shibuya.  They hopped on the Yamanote Line and off to Shibuya they went.

When they arrived in Shibuya, they made their way to the huge Starbucks that is in the middle of the shopping district. Waiting for them were Sakura, Shibu, and Hiromi, all of whom were sipping on various little delicacies that the shop had to offer.  Shibu glanced over her mirror that was poised in front of her flawless face.

“What took you guys so long? We have been waiting here forever!” Shibu scowled.  Kimiko slapped her bags down on a free chair, and sat in another.

“Did you not get my sky mail?  I told you we would be late.” She retorted as she adjusted herself to her new seat.  Shibu put down her mirror and picked up her keitai.  There was a little blinking picture telling her that she had sky mail.

“Oh, why didn’t you call?  I don’t have a sky mail ringer set and would never get the message.”  Kumiko just shrugged her shoulders.  Just then, Adana walked up, packages and latte in hand.  Like Kumiko, she deposited her bags and sat down. Kumiko began with the introductions.

“Adana, this is Hiromi, Sakura, and Shibu.  They are friends of mine who go to Waseda Prep.  Everyone, this is Adana.  She is from the states.”  Adana smiled and nodded as the regular greetings took place.  Hiromi took a sip of her drink and began.

“It looks like the two of you bought out all the stores.  Did you leave anything for us?” she gave a slight smile to Adana and Kumiko.

“Just don’t go to Ikebukero. There is nothing left.  However, my wallet has not met Shibuya!” said Adana, and everyone laughed.  She looked over everyone.  They were all Ko-garu like Kumiko.  Hiromi with her shoulder length, permed reddish brown hair, Shibu touting perfectly straight orangeish hair, and Sakura still having black hair, but with nice highlights.  All of their make-up was perfect, their skin flawlessly tanned.

“Well, I am sick of this cappu.  You want to hit Candy?”  Sakura asked.  “I really have got to get some new socks.  These are getting so old!”  She began pulling at the top of her hilariously long socks.  Kumiko made a face.

“Sakura, you got them a month ago.  They are not that old!” she spouted.

“Fine, but I want to buy some new ones anyway.  Maybe a different kind or something.  Come on! Just give me a break.”

“You are already getting one of those. You aren’t in school right now are you?” pointed out Shibu.

“Whatever!  Lets just get going ok?” they proceeded to get up and collect their belongings.  On their way out they tossed their half drunken now cold drinks, and proceeded to the Candy 109 building.

“So, Adana what brings you to Japan?  Let alone high school here.” Asked Hiromi as they walked through one of the stalls.  Adana put down the sweater she was looking at and looked at Hiromi.

“No reason.  Just tired of the states that is all.  That and my father.” They proceeded to the next stall.  Hiromi let out a small laugh.  Just then here keitai rang.  To give her some privacy she walked over to where the others were.  They were standing by a display of socks in various lengths, debating which were better.

“Adana, which do you think look better, the 120’s or the 80’s?” Sakura held up two pairs of socks.

“Uh, what?” Sakura dropped her arms.  A shocked look crept over her face.

“Please tell me you own other socks but the standard issue?” Adana gave her a puzzled look.  Sakura took the socks she was holding and thrust them into Adana’s chest.

“The register is over there.  You will like the bags.  They are really nice to carry around.”  Kumiko laughed at Sakura and Adana.  Since Adana had not been here that long she wasn’t quite sure about the pop culture, but now, Sakura and Kumiko were hell bent on making her aware.  Adana followed Sakura’s direction and bought the socks.

“We will make a nihonjin out of you yet!” smirked Shibu.  As she did, Hiromi walked up.

“I have to go. Dai is meeting me.  I will see you all later, ne?” Hiromi was already walking away and waving.  Shibu leaned her head over to Sakura’s.

“More like she is meeting Dai.  Damn, for her to date him he must be good.  Have you seen him?  Total geek!”

“You are kidding!  Does he go to Waseda?” asked Kumiko.

“Of course!  You know Hiromi.  She would not have it any other way except where everyone can see it.  She is a very public person you know.  That year in LA was really no good for her.  It changed her alot” Shibu quipped.

“I am from LA.” Said Adana shortly as she shot Shibu a look.

“Yeah, well then you know what I am talking about then.”

“Hey, it doesn’t matter.  Just drop it.” Stated Kumiko. “There are still plenty of stores to hit, and I have to get home so I can eat before Juken. If I don’t I will be up for hours!” The conversations ended and the girls continued to shop.

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z

By the time Adana got home she was so laden with bags she could barely make it though doors let alone the ticket stall at the station!  Her front door was even more of a challenge.  She dropped her bags on the floor and took off her shoes.  Not caring, she walked into the kitchen.  She went to the fridge and of course there was nothing in it.

“Shit!” She mumbled under her breath as she slammed the door shut, lambasting herself for not going to the supermarket on her way home.  Turning around, Adana walked over to the counter where the phone was blinking.  Messages.  Adana hit the button to listen to them.   The first message was from Darien wondering why she was not in class.  The second one, again was Darien wondering where she is.  Third one was her father just checking in on her.  Fourth was again Darien.  She punched the message button on her phone off.

Maybe Kumiko and Serena are right.  I should be doing more with my life than spending it with Darien.  Anyways, it is not like I can keep him.

Suddenly a knock came at the door.

“It is open!” a person walked in the door.

“Adana?”  the voice was that of Lita.  Adana walked out of her kitchen and into the hallway where the loads of bags were sitting, blocking most of the entryway.

“Oh! Lita!  I am sorry!  Let me get those!”  Adana rushed to get the bags out of the way and hurried into the living room.  She stashed the bags into her bedroom and closed the door behind her.

“Please, come in.  Have you eaten?” asked Adana as she rushed back down the hall.

“Did a little shopping today?  Man that is loads of stuff!  No bother.  That is what I am here for.  I am making dinner and wanted to know if you wanted to come over and eat.”  A smile came across Lita’s face.

“You know.  I was just about to head out for dinner. That is such a nice gesture.  I would love to!” Adana came back down the hall and the two walked out the door. Adana closed the door behind her without locking it just in case Setsuna decided to pop in.  They walked next door, and the aroma from the apartment was amazing.

“Lita it smells amazing!  What are you cooking?” asked Adana as she took her shoes off in the genkan.  Lita was already in the kitchen.

“Curry Rice.  But that probably isn’t it. I am in the middle of baking a cake.  It is called a chocolate bombe.  I found the recipe in an American magazine I picked up a while back.  I thought tonight I would try it.”  Adana made her way into the dining/living room area.  Unlike Adana’s apartment, Lita’s was much smaller.  It consisted of just two large rooms that could double living/dinning/den/study, a bedroom, kitchen, and ofuro.  Adana sat down on the couch and began to look around.  By the time she had settled herself in, Lita had dinner on the table.

“Hungry? There is plenty of food!”  Adana looked down.  The plate was heaping with curry and rice.  She picked up her chopsticks and was poised to dig in.

“Itadekimas!” they both said, and dug into the hot brown mixture.  Adana’s face wrinkled up with pleasure as she ate her first bite.

“Lita, where did you learn to cook like this! Your cooking is spectacular!” Adana was eating feverishly.

“I have always wanted to a chef.  A good meal makes people happy, and I want to make people happy.” Lita was eating just as fast as her chopsticks would let her.

“I think that one day you will own a fabulous restaurant, and I will be able to say ‘I ate her cooking before she was such a famous chef!’  Yep.”  The girls laughed and ate.  They talked of random things.  Life in Tokyo, news, stuff along those lines.  Then, as Adana knew it would, the conversation moved to Sailor Sun.

Lita began picking up the dishes when the conversation turned to that.

“I don’t understand why you didn’t tell us.  We would have helped you.  We are your friends aren’t we?” Lita began washing dished.  Adana brought the rest of the dishes into the kitchen and began putting the leftovers away.

“I really did not want to get you involved. This is my mission and I am under a time constraint.  I cannot watch out for the sailor scouts and get what have to done.” Adana let out a sigh.

“I promise we will not get in your way.  Honestly, all we want to do is help.  If there is anything we can do, please let us know.  We are your alies, not your enemy.”  Lita put the last of the dishes up to dry.

“Thank you, Lita. That is good to know.” Adana glanced at her watch.  She still had homework to do and it was getting late. “I hate to do this but I have to get going.  Thank you so very much for dinner.”  Adana was headed toward the door.

                “No dessert?”

“Sorry.  Maybe next time.”  Adana was putting on her shoes.

“Well, I guess I will see you soon then.  I will save you a piece of cake then. See you later!” Lita waved from the kitchen.

“Bye!”  and with that Adana left.

When Adana got back to her apartment, a person was sitting on the sofa.

“I see you found your way in Sets. Didn’t have to pick the lock this time, ne?” Adana joked.  As she got closer a voice came from the sofa.

“It is not smart to leave your door open. Then anyone can just get in.” The male voice resonated.  Adana was stunned for a moment.  The person stood up, and the voice belonged to none other than Darien.

“Darien! What a surprise!  How are you doing?” Adana waked into the kitchen and began boiling some water for tea. Darien picked up a small bag and walked into the kitchen.  She dropped it on the table.

“I brought your homework.  Where were you today?  I was so worried that something happened to you.” Darien put his arms around Adana and rested his chin on her shoulder.  Adana broke the embrace by reaching for the teacups.

“I went shopping.”  She poured the tea, turned around and handed a cup to Darien.  Darien gave her a sideways look.

“Let me get this straight.  You skipped class and went shopping?” he sat down in a chair as he spoke.

“Yeah. Kumiko and I had a great time.  I did some major shopping.”  Darien nearly spit out the tea he had in his mouth.

“Kumiko?!?  You are kidding me right?” Adana shook her head.

“Wait here, I have something to show you.” She hurried to her room.  Darien sat in the kitchen and drank his tea.

“I can’t understand why you hang out with her.  Kumiko is such a delinquent!” he shouted to her from the kitchen. He got up and went to the fridge.  He opened the door, and shook his head at the emptiness.

“She is fun to hang out with.  And great to talk to.” Adana shouted from her room.

“You can talk to me.  Or Setsuna.”  Before her could formulate another sentence, Adana was standing in the doorway.  In her hands she held a small box, with a green ribbon on it.  She held it out for Darien.

“Onegaishimas.  Just a little present for you.” Darien took the box from her.  He carefully untied the ribbon.  As it fell gracefully to the floor, he opened the box.  In it was a new Gucci G watch with a black Onyx face. Darien immediately closed the box and handed it back to her.

“I can’t.  I won’t.”  Adana just shoved the box back into his hands.

“I insist.  By the way, thanks for bringing my homework.  I guess I should get to it shouldn’t I?”  She walked over and picked up the bag.

“I guess I will leave you then.” Darien tapped the watch on the palm of his hand.  He pointed his finger at her as he walked backwards out the door. “See you tomorrow?”

She nodded her head.

“Absolutely.” She waved as he walked out the door.  But Adana was far from interested in doing homework.  She had a nice long bath in mind.

After taking a shower, Adana drew her bath.  The warm water felt good on her shopping weary muscles.

I never knew that shopping could take so much out of you!  I am bushed! Maybe just a little while in here will make me feel better…

Before Adana knew it the phone was ringing.  She sunk down lower and lower until the water covered her head, but she could still hear the phone ring.  Despite her better judgment, Adana got out of the bath, wrapped herself in a towel and entered her room to catch the phone.  She picked up the phone in a huff.

“Darien!  Will you quit calling already?” Adana sat on her bed although she was dropping wet.

“I don’t think this is Darien.  Well, the last time I checked I wasn’t anyway.” Setsuna replied from the other end of the line.  Adana let out a sigh and hung her head in her hand.

“I am sorry. I did not mean to.  It is just… Oh! Nevermind!  So what is up Setsuna?  Anything new from when we last talked?”

“I can see you have had a bad day. What did you do?  Is Darien giving you trouble?” Setsuna patiently said on the other side of the phone.

“Well, let me see…I skipped school, went shopping, had a great day, at dinner at Lita’s and well, Darien came over and lambasted me.  I even bought him a new watch for heaven’s sake!  It is not like I just didn’t think about him at all the entire time I was out!  All I did was have a day of teenage normalcy and he gets all over my ass about it!  So what did you call to talk about?”  Adana got up and sat at her vanity and began to attempt to brush out her hair while she was on the phone.

“Seems like you had an exciting day.  I had an adventure of my own.  I talked with Ookami today.  You want to hear what she told me.  She told me that the end is near.  This means that you have a lot of work to do Adana.  No more of this playing around.  This is crunch time.”  Adana set her brush down on the vanity.

“You mean this is the end for me.” She blurted out without even thinking about it.

“Once Rini has the crystal she can take it back to the future can’t she?”

“We don’t know when or if your time will come.  Don’t be so pessimistic.  You will probably be able to take the crystal back yourself.”  Reassured Setsuna.

“No, Rini will take the crystal back.  I have a score to settle with Emphrius here.  He will not leave this time.” Her voice went from a dull whisper to a very harsh tone in an instant.

“Adana, are aren’t thinking straight.  Please, just calm down.  You will make it back to the future, I am sure of it.  Now, I am going to get going.  I am due in the lab around 7 so I need to get some work done.  Ja, mata.”

“Mata.” Adana clicked the end call button and set the phone down.  She proceeded back to the bath she had left so that she could get rid of the rest of the stress that was building up in her.

When Darien walked into the classroom a small group of girls were sprawled all over desks in the back corner of the room.  A few of the male population had quickly joined them.  They were all chit chatting about something.  Lucas walked in behind Darien.

“What is all the commotion?” he asked his senpai.

“Ah, you know what, your guess is as good as mine.  Care to find out?” he asked the young man.

“Why not?” they walked over to everyone.  What the found was a fountain of red hair now with orange streaks in it. The face that went with it was a light brown colour, the eyes defined with white eyeliner and false eyelashes.  Her legs were covered with tall white slouch socks and her ears reveled large hoop earrings.  From first glance she was a knock out, but after closer look Darien realized who it was.

“Adana?!?  What did you do?” Darien was shocked.  He could not believe that the Ko-garu sitting before him was his girlfriend.  All the girls were just in awe and the guys were just fawning all over the red head.

“Oh, hello Darien.  How are you?  So what do you think?  Am I a regular high school student now?” Adana smiled out of her perfect pink lipstick. Kumiko patted her friend’s hair.

“Doesn’t she look great?  I knew we would make a nihonjin out of her yet!”  she smiled and flashed perfectly white teeth.  The look on Darien’s face was enough for her.  Darien’s jaw dropped and he was in essence, mortified.  A smile came across Lucas’s face.

“Adana, you look great.” He said.  Darien elbowed him. The young man grimaced. Just then the bell rang for class to start.  It was time for everyone to get to their seats, but most of the guys did not want to get to their seats.  They would have traded in their seat for one closer to Adana and Kumiko.  Darien however was not among of them.  The sat as far away from her as he could get.  He hung his head and did not look at her.

After class many guys walked out with the two girls.  But, Darien grabbed Adana by the arm.  It startled her and she stopped for a moment.

“Look, I need to talk to you.  How about dinner?” she shook her arm lose.

“Fine, 6.00, my place.” And with that she walked away with Kumiko and her new admirers.

“So, Addie, how about lunch?  Let’s go out.  Anyone want to join us?”  Kumiko knew what she was doing. She was trying to piss of Darien and using Adana as the tool.  Be it she liked Adana, but pissing off him was ever better.  A group of young men followed them.

Lunch was a formal affair.  Kumiko opted for a nice Italian restaurant that was not far from the school.  Everyone ordered a nice meal, and then Kumiko and a few of the other guys ordered dessert.  The best part of the whole thing was Adana loved all the attention she was getting.  It was nice that she was leading a little bit of a normal life before it ended.  She wasn’t going to tell any of her friends what was happening, she had to keep it secret.  Adana, however, had not eaten much of her lunch, which was the worst part.  Everyone had finished theirs and was on to dessert.

“You alright Adana?  You have barely eaten anything.” A tall drink with medium- long black hair asked her.

“Oh, Kenjiro, I am just not that hungry.  I don’t know what it is.  I think I ate too much for breakfast.” She smiled as she spoke.  Kenjiro looked down at his ice cream sundae.

“Well, you have just got to try this.  There is always room for ice cream.” He dug his spoon into the gooey concoction and aimed the spoon at Adana’s mouth.  At first she was coy about it and leaned back, laughing at the whole event. Then Kenjiro leaned across the table and shoved the spoon at her mouth. She laughed ever so slightly and a little bit of whipped cream came out the side of her mouth.  Kenjiro leaned over with a napkin and wiped it away.  This made Adana blush.  Everyone laughed at the events.  This made Adana blush even more.

“So, what do you think?” he spooned up another, “Want some more.” Adana smiled and leaned over.  She grabbed the spoon from Kenjiro. Waving it in the air, she aimed it at Kenjiro.

“No, but I think you do!” and she shoved it at his mouth, but he moved his head out of the way.  Instead of his mouth, she got his cheek. Embarrassed, she dropped the spoon and reached for a napkin.  The group was laughing loud.  In an instant, Adana grabbed a napkin, but she was too late.  Kenjiro had already wiped his mouth off on the napkin that he had wiped Adana’s face with.

“I was thinking of giving the rest to you, but not now.” He jokingly kicked her under the table.

“Just don’t do it again!” Kenjiro laughed and picked up the check from the table.

“I would stay with the rest of you all, but I do have an important test in Chinese today that I cannot skip.  Later.” Adana grabbed his arm as he went to walk away.

“Kenjiro, here.” she handed him her share of the bill, but he wouldn’t take it from here.

“My treat.  It is your birthday.” He smiled at her. Adana threw him a puzzled look.

                “My birthday?”

“Yes, your birthday.  Your first day as a Japanese person.”  Adana sat down and looked a little bit puzzled.  Kumiko just put her hand on her shoulder.

“Yes, your first day being Japanese.”  Adana sat back in her chair.  She smiled.

Adana got back a little late that afternoon and did not have much time to change her clothes and take a shower, so she just changed her clothes.  She chose an outfit from one that she had bought when she was out with Kumiko and the other girls. She was wearing a short, pleated blue skirt, a pink tube top with matching pleather jacket and knee high platform boots. She added some jewelry and waited for Darien to show up.  Like clockwork, he showed up at 6.00.  He didn’t ring the bell that is just something he never did.  Darien just walked in.  He was shocked to see what he did.  This was not the Adana he knew.  Not the one he was falling in love with.

“Adana what is going on with you?  You have done a complete 180 in just a couple of days.  I feel like I don’t even know you anymore.”  He walked in and parked himself in a chair.  The red head walked over to where he was and sat in a adjacent chair.

“Darien, have you ever known what it is like to face your own death in the face.  Before I met you, I had been many different places looking for the Princess.  I went to Europe, Africa, and South America.  I finally got here to Japan and I think I have found what I am looking for.  And I know that when I get the Imperium Silver Crystal it is all over for me.  I want to live just a little bit.  Know what it is like to be a teenager and not a warrior.  Can’t you understand that?” She sat down on the couch. Darien just shook his head.

“No, I can’t understand.  Why now?  When we are almost there.” Adana shot him a look.

“What is this we bull-shit?  This is my fight.  My life is at stake here!  Not yours!”

she was mad.  Absolutely furious.  She grabbed her new Fendi bag off the couch and went for the door.

“Adana! Wait!  That is not what I mean.  Adana!” but it was not Darien that made her stop, it was the blinking compact in her purse.  Trouble.  She opened it up and Sailor Pluto was on the other end.

“We have a problem.  Major Nega movement going on.  Looks like Tokyo Disney area is going to get smacked.  You on it?” Adana looked down.

“Give me a few.  I am on it.” She snapped the compact closed and turned to face Darien.

“Negaverse on the move?” Adana shook her head, and walked toward her room.  She grabbed her katana and went for the door.

                “Lets go.”

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                             Sailor Pluto was a little off on her assumption of where the youma would hit.  It hit on the Rainbow Bridge in Chiba.  Not far from Disney, but far enough.  The massive youma was wreaking havoc on the cars.  The police had shut off the bridge and cleared out as many people as was possible. Sailor Sun and Tuxedo Mask were the first on the scene.

“Ok, I don’t know who you are or why you came, but you will be leaving soon.  I am Sailor Sun and in the name of the Moon, I am going to thrash you.” At closer look the youma was nothing but a huge piece of samurai armor with a wide sword. The youma was laughing at her.

“I am Gokenin.  The Samurai Youma.  In the name of my master, Emperius, I will destroy you, Sailor Sun.  Or you can make this easy on yourself and just hand over the princess, the rabbit, and the crystal.  Then maybe I would go easy on you and give you an easy death.” He let out a haughty laugh.  Sailor Sun poised to attack.

“Wait.  Don’t do anything hasty.  Wait for the others.” Shouted Tuxedo Mask.

“No.  This guy is mine.” She went after him with wonderful sword technique.  They went round for round.  The youma was strong, but he would not give.  Sailor Sun was running out of strength.  Tuxedo Mask threw a couple of roses at him and jumped in front of Sun.

“Sailor Sun!  Use some attack!  You cannot take him on like this forever.”  Sailor Sun squinted her eyes.  She sheathed her sword and put her hands together.  A large ball of energy formed and she poised for her attack.

“Solar Flare!” she let the ball fly and it hit the youma square in the chest.  As he stumbled back, she drew her katana and sliced his head off.  She disappeared leaving only two orbs, which Sailor Sun quickly snatched up. In the blink of and eye she speared them with her katana.  They burst and her head rushed with images, names, and faces, she has long since forgotten.  She closed her eyes.  Then in an instant she opened them again.

“I know where she is.  My mission ends tomorrow.”  Sailor Sun turned to look at Tuxedo Mask just to notice the other sailor scouts running up to her.

“Is the…is the battle over?” Asked Sailor Neptune.

“Yes. I am tired of these battles.  I want Emperius.”

“And that is what you will have, but on my terms.” They all turned around to see Emperius standing on the edge of the bridge.

“Emperius, or should I say Jedite.  So good to see you again.  Now we end this.”  She lunged at him, but he just appeared behind her.

“I see you got most of your memories back.  Jedite is dead.  He died when Beryl encased him in crystal.  I remain.  Only I remain!” he laughed demonically. “And soon I will be rid of you, Sailor Sun. And the Princess, the Rabbit, and the Crystal will be mine.” He laughed and disappeared.

“I will come for you soon, Sailor Sun.  Be aware.  Your day of demise is coming soon.” The voice came from the heavens.

“I need a latte.” Sailor Sun replied.  “I am going home.”  She walked past everyone, jumped up into the air, and was gone.  The rest of the Sailor Scouts were left there to contemplate the goings on.  Tuxedo Mask went to rush after here.

“Tuxedo Mask!  Wait!” Sailor Uranus yelled after him.  “Let her go.  She needs some time to think.” Tuxedo Mask stopped.

“She doesn’t have much time.  You know that.  I know that.  We all should realize that.  Let her fulfill her mission.  None of us should just get in her way.” Sailor Pluto stated.

“But we all just want to help her.” Stated Sailor Moon.

“She is different from us.  Let us not get involved.  For once, let’s let her do thinks Sailor Sun’s way.  Not our way.” Interjected Sailor Jupiter.  Sailor moon shook her head.

“I don’t understand.  Why won’t Sailor Sun let us help her.” Spouted Sailor Moon.

“She is not like us.  Sailor Sun was not brought back for good.  She was brought back for evil.  Sailor Sun has no feeling of loyalty; she has a feeling of mission.  A growing desires to fulfill her mission.  I think it is about time we let her be and just let her do things her own way.” Sailor Pluto said.

“Sailor Sun is changing.  She is dying.” Stated Sailor Neptune. “She will not be with us much longer.”  The other sailor just stopped.  No one had told them what exactly was happening.  They didn’t know that she was on a suicide mission.

“Time is of the essence, because it is something that Sailor Sun does not have.” She continued.

“ I would stand here and continue this conversation, but we really should get going.” Sailor Mercury piped up.  The rest of the sailors nodded in agreement, and off they went.

When Adana arrived home she was not into dealing with everyone else.  What she wanted was to see the world just slip away from her.  She went directly to her room where she put her sword away and flopped down on her bed.  Leaning over she glanced at her clock.  It was only 7.30 pm.

It is still early.  I can go out and catch a bite or…where is my keitai?  I think I am going to give Kumiko a call and see what she is up to.

She got up from her bed and went into the living room.  Grabbing her purse, she began rummaging though it looking for the little cell phone.  Within a minute she had found it, and flipped it open.  There was a little image blinking on the screen.  She had missed a call.  After checking her voice mail, it seems that the call had come from Kumiko.  In a flash she had dialed the girl back. The phone made the typical dialing sound.  Adana sat down on the couch.

“Come on, Come on.” Suddenly there was a click on the other end of the line.

“Ah, moshi, moshi, Kumiko-san?”  she spoke into the phone as she sat down on the couch.

                “Addie-chan?  Is that you?”

“Yeah, it is me.  What are you up to?” she kicked her feet up on the coffee table.

“I am at a party having fun.  Did you just get done with Darien?” Adana bit her lip.

“Well, we never really had dinner.  Lets just say, oh nevermind. I don’t care anymore.”

“That is the spirit.  Hey, why don’t you head on over.  I will meet you at Yoyogi eki and we will take it from there, ok?”  Quipped Kumiko.

“Yoyogi?  All right.  I will be there in let’s say an hour?”

“Fine.  Than an hour it is.” She hung up the phone and put it back in her new purse.  Picking it up she turned it looking at all angles.  The more she looked at it the more she realized she didn’t like it.  But it was in vogue, so she would learn to live with it.  Looking herself over in her pocket mirror, she did a once over.  She walked into the kitchen and found a bottle of champagne.  A little gift for whoever her host is.

On the train Adana’s keitai rang.  She was a little shocked to hear it. Feeling that everyone was looking at her she decided to answer it.

                “Moshi, Moshi?” she answered.

“Hey Adana.  Are you ok?  I have been trying to reach you for 20 minutes already.” Darien’s voice came ringing over the line.

“I’ve been on the subway. And yeah I am fine.” She said quietly.

“After the fight you left rather quickly.  I just wanted to make sure you are ok.  So where are you off to?”  he asked.  Adana really did not want to answer him.

“Out for dinner.  I just need some time to think.  Oh, by the way I am not going to be in school tomorrow.  I have some work to do.”  She lied through her teeth.  Well, at least about the out for dinner part.

“Ok, well, I hope you find what you are looking for.  Ja ne.” and with that she clicked the phone off and put it back in her purse.  Good timing.  The train was just coming to a stop at Yoyogi and not a moment too soon.  Adana gathered her things and was on her way.

Kumiko was waiting for her outside the eki.  As ususal, she was on the phone.  As Adana approached she wrapped up her converation.

“Hey!  You are right on time.  That was Hiromi.  She is having Dai problems again.” She grabbed the bottle of champagne out of Adana’s hands and looked it over.

“Nice.”  Handing the bottle back to the red head, she started walking.  Adana quickly followed.

“By the way, who’s house are we going to?”

“A good friend of mine’s.  Don’t worry; there are a few people you know there.  Sakura and Shibu are there.  They are looking forward to seeing you again.”  They rounded the corner and were headed toward a residential district.  Many beautiful, large houses began emerging from the apartment high-rises. Like magic they were in a more quiet setting.  And yet the houses kept getting larger and larger.  Rounding another corner they precede down a maze of tiny winding streets, many of which Adana would have been lost in if she had been here herself.  Before long they were standing infront of a large, 3 story building that was more windows than anything else.

“Here!  Come on, quit gawking and let’s go.”  Kumiko pulled Adana up the steps and opened the door.

“Tadaima!!” A face popped into the hallway.

“Okairi…Oh!  Adana!  Nice clothes!  Are those some of the ones you bought when we went out?”  Asked Shibu.

“Yeah,” she stated while she took off her shoes, “well some of them.  I bought a whole new wardrobe practically.”  Kumiko step up from the genkan to the hallway.  Adana looked around at all the shoes that were strewn around the rather large genkan. Shoes of all kinds, men’s and women’s could be found.  She followed the girls into the kitchen.

“Everyone is out on the veranda in the pool.  I am just done making some daiquiris.”  Adana handed bottle of champagne to Shibu.

“Could you put this on ice.   I am thinking we can pop this later.”

“Nice, I sure many will appreciate it. Hey since you all are on your way up, will you take this up with you?” Shibu handed them a few cups and two blenders full of daiquiris.  They proceeded up the stairs to the second floor.

“Oh, do you have a swimsuit?  I forgot to ask.” Asked the Ko-garu.

“Yeah, let me just whip into my magic back and produce one.  No!  Of course I didn’t.  Now that I think about it, I don’t even think I have one.”  Spouted Adana as they reached the top of the stairs.  Her companion laughed.

“Don’t worry.  Someone always brings a spare.  People can never decide what to wear.  When I go out I change at least 3 times if not more!” they reached the top of the stairs and saw the reflection of the lights from the veranda on the water. As they reached the veranda many people turned to see who was there.  Adana recognized a few faces, but the one that she noticed first was Kenjiro. Following Kumiko, she bowed as to say hello as she walked out to the veranda.  It was a little chilly out, so little curls of steam came up from the pool like it was an onsen.  As she was looking for a table to set the drinks down on, Kenjiro got out of the pool and instantly wrapped a towel around his waist.  His slightly chizzled body glistened in the light.  He took the drinks from the young woman and walked over to a table in the far corner.

“Anyone up for some of Shibu’s Daiquiris? We have, lets see here..” he lifted up the two pitchers, “Looks like strawberry and uh,” he lifted up the one pitchers and peered at it quizzically.  Kumiko came up and grabbed the pitcher.

“Can’t you tell?  This is tropical fruit!  Just smell it.” She shoved the pitcher under his nose.  “Smell it!!” they all started laughing. Out of nowhere, Sakura walked up to the group.

“Adana? Is that you?  I love what you have done with your hair.  The pinkish orange streaks are way cool. Did you use Palty or did you have it done?” Adana turned and smiled.

“Palty of course!” she poured Sakura a strawberry, and handed it to her friend.

                “Drink?”

“Thanks!” and with that Sakura walked away, taking Adana with her.  Kumiko and Kenjiro were left with the drinks.

“Well,” started Kumiko, “What do you think?  Is she a conquest worth your time?” she started to walk back into the house.  Kenjiro was following close behind.

“She is more than worth my time.  I think this time I am playing for keeps.” Kumiko walked into the bathroom so that she could change into her bathing suit.  She left the door slightly cracked so that she could talk with Kenjiro, but behind the door enough so that he couldn’t see her change.

“I will tell you though, if you play her, I will never let you live it down.” Just then someone came up the stairs.  It was Shibu with Hiromi and Dai in tow.  She looked quizzically at Kenjiro.

“Carrying on a conversation with the bathroom?  Have you totally lost your mind?”  Just then, Kumiko walked out of the bathroom wearing a green string bikini that left nothing really to the imagination.

“No, he was talking with me!” Kumiko smiled and walked to the veranda to find Adana.  Dai looked at Kejiro.

“Long time no see, bro.  How ya been?”  he smacked his friends arm as he spoke.  Kenjiro gave a slight bow.

“Hiromi, Dai.  Nice to have you here.  Please come in and make yourselves at home.  There are drinks out on the veranda.  He stood there for a moment then showed them the way.

Adana’s head was already starting to pound from the couple of drinks she had, but then again, she was not going to say anything.  She was meeting so many new people that she began to think that that was the reason her head was pounding.  It was also because of the fact that everyone was talking so fast, and it was very hard for her to understand at times.  Adana had learned a long time ago not to translate, but just to know.  Lucky, a savior came to her rescue.  He slid in behind her, handed her a fresh daiquiri and began rubbing her shoulders.

“You doing alright?  You seem a little stunned.”  She turned around and laughed.

“Don’t be silly!  I am having a great time!  Whose house is this by the way?  It is beautiful.”  Kenjiro got up and lit a cigarette.

“Care for the grand tour?”  He held his hand out as everyone made oohing sounds.

                “It is your house?”

“Yes, well, mine and Shibu’s.  We are stepbrother and sister.  It just so happens that mother and father are off on their honeymoon, but they like to travel so I,” Shibu shot him one of those drop dead looks, “I mean we, have the house to ourselves.”  Adana got up and began to walk with Kenjiro.  As she got up, one of the young men she had just met, Hayashi, got up as well.

“Wait a minute!  I think we need a christening!”  Everyone looked a little stunned.  Then when they realized what he was talking about they smiled.

“Yes, to Adana!  It seems to be her day!”  Spouted Kumiko as she raised a glass to Adana.  Adana gave her a sideways look.  Just then 4 young men lifted the red head right in the air.

“Wait!  Wait! Oh, no!”  Kenjiro took a long drag on his cigarette and lifted a glass to her as well as a smile crossed his pouty upper lip.  As he did they let Adana fly into the pool.  Laughing as hard as they could, they watched as the young woman went in with a splash then bobbed back up.  A look of shock covered her face. She was in such a state of shock she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“Oh, don’t look so sad, my western flower,” he stubbed out what was left of his cancer stick as he dropped his towel to revel that he had nothing on underneath.  Quietly, he slipped into the water.

“It was all in fun.” Slipping a hand around her waist he pulled her closer.

“We mean nothing by it. Really.”

“I am all wet!  Lord knows what my face looks like!  Someone pass me a drink!” a girl handed her a glass.

“You owe me after this one!”   But Kenjiro was not to be had so easily. Taking the glass out of her hands, he dunked her head under the water.  When she came up to the surface, he leaned over to her.  She whispered quietly in her ear.

“My house, my rules.”  She splashed him as he spoke.  Just then more people began jumping into the pool.

So this is what it is like to be a teenager.  I love this life.  I don’t want to leave it.  Oh, Selene, just a little bit longer.  Let me stay just a little bit longer.

Around 11.00 the party began to dwindle.  Either everyone was too drunk to drink anymore, or they all wanted to wake up in their own beds in the morning and wanted to catch the one of the last trains home.  Adana was sufficiently plastered herself.  Unfortunately, even if she left now, she would have to catch a cab from god knows what eki.  To get here she had to make three different changes.

Still sitting in the pool she knew in some corner of her mind that she couldn’t stay here, she would have to find a hotel or something.  She hauled herself out of the pool, and rung out her hair and what little of her skirt she could and still be modest.  Kenjiro came up beside her and wrapped her in a large, warm towel.

“Why don’t I get you something to change into?  Get you out of these wet clothes.” He said as one of his pouty smiles crossed over his lips. Kenjiro leaned over and kissed her gently.  As he did she closed her eyes tight.  She knew that he was different.  He was from a different breed.  The suave league.  The same league that Adana was from.  They walked in the circles of the rich.  The famous and the well to do.  She liked him, but didn’t want to start anything now.  He slipped an arm around her shoulders and led her into the house.

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Though she had told him that she was not going to be in school the next day, Darien stopped by Adana’s apartment to bring her breakfast.  She was probably going see Kaori with Setsuna, but anyway, she still needed to eat.  He went for the door and to his surprise it was locked.

Adana never locks her door.  Only when she is not home. I wonder where she is.

Without even thinking it over, he began banging on the door.

“Adana?  Adana?  Are you in there?” but there was no answer.  But there was an answer from next door.

“What is with all the racket Darien?” Lita emerged from her apartment to confront the disturbance.

“Oh, Lita, sorry.  Have you seen Adana?” Lita shook her head.

“Not since she left her apartment last night.  Around 7 ish I think.  I had just gotten home and was closing the door when she left.  She didn’t see me, so I didn’t ask where she was going.  She was pretty dressed up when she left though.  Well, I have to get ready for school.  I will see you later then?”  Darien nodded his head as Lita closed her door.  He then turned and headed for the elevator.

As Adana opened her eyes it was hard to look at the sun as it shone through all the windows in the room.  Her head ached with all the alcohol that had run through it. Getting up to stretch she noticed that she was not in her own bed.  Sitting up, she also noticed that she was not wearing any clothes. He mind finally clear enough to think, she looked around.  She was in a large queen sized bed, but there was no one else in it with her.  However, the sheets were rumpled and strewn about.  Her mind raced a mile a minute.

Oh my god!  What have I done!  And with whom?  How, why, Oh god!  Oh Shit!!!

Panic seized her, but she dare not get up for what it would reveal.  Suddenly the door opened up, reveling a body clad in a black turtleneck sweater and matching black pants.  Kenjiro was carrying a few shopping bags.

“Ah, I see you are finally up.  You clothes are still drying so I thought it would be best if I just got you new ones.  I would go into Shibu’s room and borrow some of hers, but she is larger than you are.  The clothes would not be as flattering.” Adana had nothing to say.  A small look of fear came over her face.

“Ah, well, Kenjiro…”she began.  He came over and sat next to the young woman on the side of the bed that lay empty.  He leaned over and placed his hand on the side of her face.  She winced just a bit, but then he leaned closer to her.  He placed his face just inches from hers and ran his fingers through her hair.

“Don’t be so afraid of me.  I would never take advantage of a situation like that.  Your clothes are outside drying.  In the night you were shivering because of your wet underclothes so I took them outside to dry.” He kissed her cheek. “When I came back you were sound asleep.  So I just curled up beside you and we both just slept.  Believe me.” He kissed her other cheek.

“Just slept.” He leaned over and this time kissed her lips, gently.  She leaned back and lay down on the bed, still in his embrace.  He slid the hand that was not now behind her head, around her waist.  The sheet provocatively clung to her bare body.  The young man broke off the embrace and glanced at her.

“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met.  I just hope that the clothes I bought you do you justice.” Kenjiro got up and went to the bags he had lay by the entrance.  A variant of names were strewn across the bags-Issey, Prada, Gucci, Dolce&Gabanna, and a few from places she didn’t recognize, but they were places she loved to buy clothes from.  He picked up the bags and held them next to his head.

“I had a few errands to run this morning in Ginza, so I picked up a few things for you while I was out.” He laid the bags across the bed and began bringing out the contents.

“Take your pick.  I don’t know what you like.  I checked your size in your clothes this morning, and your shoes as well.  I just hope that it all fits.  You never know. Everyone has their own sizing anymore.” Adana blushed.   She began going from one bag to another trying to figure out which one she wanted to try on.

“Um, first I would like some underclothes if you don’t mind.” Kenjiro produced a small bag from Maruhiro.  Its contents consisted of various colours of underwear sets, all perfectly folded and wrapped in tissue paper.

“Different colours for different outfits. Go ahead and change.  I am going to go make you something to eat.  After all you had to drink last night you must not be feeling very well, but you still have to eat.  I will go make us some lunch then.” Kenjiro got up and walked to the door.

“Just don’t take too long.” He smiled and closed the door behind him.

It only took Adana 20 minutes to get ready.  In the end she chose a little grey Dolce pantsuit number and matching stockings.  She found a brush in the bathroom and made some sense of her mop of red hair.  She coughed just a bit and with it a little blood came.  With a sigh she washed her hands off.  As soon as she gave herself a once over in the mirror, she proceeded down the two flights of stairs to the first floor. The smell coming from the kitchen was glorious smell. She quietly opened the door and peaked her head in.

“Smells good.  What are you cooking?” Kenjiro turned around just as she was closing the door.

“Nothing special.  Just some yakisoba.  You eat Japanese food don’t you?”  he asked.  Adana smiled as she set down in the seat that he motioned for her to sit in.

“I live in Japan don’t I? What kind of question is that?” the two of them laughed.  He swung around and placed a plate of the pan fried noodles in front of her.

“Lunch is served.” He sat down across from her. “Itadekimas!”

“Itadekimas.” And they dug into their noodles.

As they ate they chatted, about school, life, and themselves.  Adana explained about her father and what she was doing in Japan.  Of what Adana was doing in japan. Not what she was really doing in Japan. They had a lot in common including the fact that they had overbearing fathers and their mothers had died. It turned out that Kenjiro’s father was a vice president of the Mitsuho group, one of the largest conglomerates in all of Japan.  Shibu’s mom had been his secretary long ago before Kenjiro’s mother died.  After she died, Kenjiro’s father had dated, and now married the woman.  With it came Shibu.  They didn’t get along that well, but they could tolerate each other enough to live civilly.  Anyway, she would be going to university in Kansai in the spring, and he was going to attend Kesei here in Tokyo.

“Thank you for everything.  You have been such a gentleman.” Adana said with a slight bow. Kenjiro wiped his mouth with a napkin and stood up.

“Now I guess it is time for dessert. No peaking. Look outside at the ume blossoms.”

“You are big on dessert aren’t you?” stated Adana.

“It is the best part of the meal.  Close your eyes. Tight.” Adana did as she was told.  She felt his hand brush her neck and begin to unclasp the “diamond” that hung around her neck.  Her hand quickly reached up to her throat.  She turned around.

“Don’t. I can never take this off.  Ever.”  Kenjiro kneeled down on one knee next to her.

“Is it that special to you?” he asked.  Adana wanted to tell the real reason.

Oh, Kenjiro, there is so much I want to tell you.  If I am away from this for too long, I will die.  I am soon going to die.

Adana gave a slight smile to her companion.

“I made a promise.  To my mother” she made up the excuse, hopeing that he would buy it.  Kenjiro sighed, and produced a blue box from Tiffany and Co.   He opened it up to reveal a platinum necklace that looked like a vine.  Intertwined in it was little diamonds placed to look like grapes on the vine.

“If you ever change your mind.” He took the necklace out of the book and unclasped it.  He began to wrap it around her wrist. “You can always wear it.  We will put it here for now.

“Kenjiro, I can’t.  This is just way too much.” He got up and went over to his side of the table.  Adana just admired the necklace now bracelet, and him.

“Kenjiro, what time is it?”  He lit a cigarette and looked at his watch.

“Just a little past two why?” Adana jumped up with a start.

“I am sorry.  I have to get going.  Oh, I am in trouble now.”  Began for the hall, but then realized her purse was still on the veranda, or at least, that is where she left it the night before.  She climbed the stairs, and sure enough, it was still out by the pool.  Adana quickly made her way for the genkan and began to put her shoes on.  Kenjiro came flying down the stairs after her.  He thrust a box into her hands.

“Those shoes don’t match.  Try these.  I will get these shoes to you later, ok? Now go.”  He gently rubbed the side of her face.  They smiled at each other and in a flash she was out the door.

Adana did not have much time.  She knew she had to get Shoji and fast.  In her last, and hopefully final, batch of memories, she new that the princess buried at Shoji was the one she was looking for.  She had to get to Kaori and fast!  While on the train back to her mansion, she called Setsuna.  Adana impatiently tapped her foot as she listened to the ringing phone.

“Hello.  You have reached…” the answering machine.  Adana waited for the message to end then left a message.

“Sets as soon as you get this message, call me back at 090-9231-1181.  I know where the princess is.”  She angrily clicked the phone off, and waited till her stop.

When Adana got home, she ran to her car.  In an instant she was starting the engine and almost stripped the gears as she backed out.  About 4 kilometers down the road her phone rang.

                “Moshi, Moshi!  Setsuna?”

“Yeah, I just checked my messages.  What do you mean you know where the princess is?”

“I don’t have much time.  Where are you?  I mean right now, where are you?”  She punched the petal through a yellow light.

“I am at K-O working on a lab, but…” Adana did not give her time to finish.

“I am picking you up.  I will take the express way so it should only take me an hour or so.”

“Adana. Wait a mi…” but it was too late.  Adana had already clicked off her phone.  There was no time now.  A sharp pain hit Adana in the chest and she gegan coughing.  She put her hand over her mouth, and felt the warm mixture that she had coughed up.  It was blood as red as her hair was.  She placed her hand out the window and shook it off.  At least that would get rid of some of the blood.   Her time was coming to an end and she knew it.  Adana had to act fast to save the future.

Just a little before four the red head reached the K-O University.  Luckily, Setsuna was waiting outside the gate, still in her lab coat and full regalia.  Adana motioned with her hand to get in the car and Setsuna followed.  The woman barely had enough time to close the door and Adana already had the pedal to the metal.

“God Adana!  Slow it down a bit.  Where the hell have you been?  I have been trying to call your house almost all night!” Setsuna looked the girl over.  She noticed the new clothes and the faint traces of red on her hands and the front of her outfit.

“What is going on?” she questioned. “Are you alright?”

“I was out last night.  At a party.  Never mind what I was doing last night.  The fact of the matter is, my time is running out.”

“Where are we going?” Adana glanced over to her friend.

“To see Kaori.”  Setsuna gave out a weak laugh.

“We already got all we could out of her.  We really should just let her be.”

“No, she knows.  She is keeping something from us.  The princess is there.  I know it.”

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z

Adana came rushing into the main room of the temple, Setsuna close on her heels.  When she reached the center of the room, the temple maiden was waiting for her.

“You have come back.” She bowed slightly, “So good to see you again Adana.”

“Open it.” She pointed at the crypt. “Now.”  Ookami gave her a puzzled look.

“But, Adana, what you are looking for is not here.” The young woman pleaded.

“Open it or I will!” she shouted. Setsuna grabbed her arm.

“Adana let’s talk about this.” She pleaded.  Adana just shook her arm away.  She kicked off her mules and braced herself against the top of the onyx tomb.  With all of her might she shoved, but only moved it slightly.  Setsuna went to help her but Ookami stopped her.  Shocked she just stood there and watched the woman struggle.  Adana pushed with all of her might, and then stopped for just a moment.  She stood straight up and closed her eyes.  Waving her hand at the sarcophagus a great gust of wind came up and blew the top up just a little.  Adana put all of her weight into the top and it went crashing on to the floor.  She stepped back for just a moment to catch her breath.  Cautiously, she peered into the tomb.  What she saw frightened her even more.  She screamed.  Not in fear, but in anger.

“I am sorry this is not what you are looking for.” Sympathized Ookami.  The woman who was lying there had a fair face, and long hair.  She was perfectly preserved.  Anyone would have guess that she was a doll.  But this doll was no princess; this doll was Sailor Sun.  Adana turned to lash out Ookami.  Setsuna grabbed her arms as they were poised to strike the young maiden.

“This is my grave!  My tomb!  Why didn’t you tell me!  WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!” the red head screamed as loud as her lungs would let her.  Tears were streaming down her face.  Finally, she quit fighting to get her arms free and kneeled down on the ground.

“This is my grave.” She said.

“I am sorry Sun.  I wanted to spare you.  When you were younger you had been to this temple many times.  It was once one of Selene’s temples.  Now, it is a Taoist temple.  They had you buried here because it was important to you.  I am sorry that you had to find out this way.” Adana got up.

                “Then where is the princess?”

“I will tell you this, when it comes to the end, you will find her.  You are searching to hard.  When you least expect it you will find her.” And with that Ookami went to walk away. As she was almost to the door, she vanished.  Setsuna and Adana just stood there.  Adana turned to her companion.

“We have to go. I have to find the princess.” She began coughing up more blood.  Setsuna handed her a handkerchief.  Adana wiped herself up.  They walked out of the temple, and started back to Tokyo.

The pair returned to Tokyo some time later.  Adana dropped Setsuna off at her apartment, but after that she didn’t know what to do.  She drove and drove, but then found herself out front of Darien’s apartment building.  This was not where she ment to go, but it is where she ended up.  She parked the car and off into the building she went.

Darien was startled to hear the knocking on his door.  It was well after 1.00 am and he still had studying to do.  He took his glasses off and placed them on the table.  Quietly he made his way to the door.  When he opened it, Adana stood on the other side.  She looked like hell.  Her pantsuit was covered in sweat and dark spots, and her hair was disheveled.  She also was wearing no makeup.  The red head looked up to him with a tear stained face.

“We need to talk. Can I come in?” She said with an expressionless face.  Darien nodded and moved out of the way so that she could walk inside.  Adana walked over to his bed and sat down.  He joined her.

“What happened to you.” Without thinking about it he pointed at the dark spots on her shirt.

“Blood.  I keep coughing it up more and more often.  I don’t have much time left at all Darien.  I have to find the princess and fast.  I have to get the crystal back to the future before there is no one left to save the future.  Rini is just too young to do it.  She also is untrained.  The future rests in my hands, and there is nothing I can do about it.” She turned and looked at Darien.

“Do you know who is buried at Shoji?” Darien made a face.

“Adana, slow down.  No, who is buried there?”  he was taken aback by the question.  The young woman just stared him down.

“I am.  It is my tomb.  I am buried there.” She got up and walked to the sliding glass door that lead to the balcony. Placing a hand on the glass, she just stared out the window.  Darien got up and stood beside her.

“What do you mean?” She turned to face him, giving him a duh face.

“Just that.  I am buried there.  I looked down expecting to find Serena’s sister, and I found myself staring right back at me.  It was a little frightening actually.  I looked like a china doll.” She made her way into the kitchen.  Opening the fridge, she gave out a small laugh.

“Funny.  I keep wondering to myself if that is what I looked like when the Master reincarnated me in the future.” Grabbing a bottle of JuuRoku cha out of the fridge she opened it and began to drink.  Her friend joined her in the kitchen.

“And what about us?” he asked as he sat down on the counter. Adana put the cap on her drink.

“I’m sorry.  It was a mistake.  I hope that you forgive me.” He grabbed her and hugged her close.  For a moment she just stood there in his embrace, welcoming his strong arms.  But then she came to her senses.  She pushed away from him.

“Darien plea…” she finished with a coughing fit that rendered her to her knees.  Reaching her hand upward she grabbed a towel off the counter and coughed up into it. After the coughing subsided she sat back on her legs and wiped the remnants of blood from the corner of her mouth.  He knew he was pushing the issue.  Most of all, he could not come to grips with the idea of losing Adana.  For once in his life, he felt whole, like he had found the other half of his soul.  He did not want to lose that feeling. It would be like losing his parents all over again.  Darien was tired of losing everything he loved. He reached down to helpher up.

“Lets get you to bed.” Adana shook her head.

“I have to find her.  If it is the last thing I do.  In the morning I am going to talk to Rini.” She suddenly stopped. Her chest was beginning to hurt with every breath she took.

“Nevermind.  I am going now.” She pulled her transformation broach out of her purse.

“Go in person, transform before you get there.  It will be safer.” Stated Darien.  Adana shook her head.

“You are right.” She headed for the door.  Darien was close at her heals.

“Wait.  I’ll drive.” Adana threw him her keys.

“You can get there.  I can’t.” And with that they hurried out the door.

It was very late when they arrived at Serena’s house.  Adana crept into the bushes and transformed. After she did she instantly leapt up to the roof by Rini and Serena’s rooms.  Suprisingly, a light was on  Serena’s room. Luna was sitting up and it looked like she was reading a book.  Sailor Sun crept past the window and toward Rini’s window.  Rini was dead asleep.  Quietly, she opened the window and let herself in.  She crept over to the bed and placed a hand on the young girl’s shoulder.

“Little One.  Little One.  Wake up please.”  Rini opened her eyes slightly and then rolled back over.

“But I don’t have school today Serena.  Let me sleep!” she moaned out.  Sailor Sun gave her another little shake.

“It is Sailor Sun, please, Rini, wake up!”  Rini rolled over toward her and opened up her eyes.

“Sailor Sun!  I didn’t tell honest!  I don’t know how they know!” her voice was very loud.  Instantly, Sun put a gloved hand over her mouth.

“If you aren’t quiet you will wake up the whole house.  Now listen to me.  This is important.  My time here is almost up and I am trusting you with a major job.  If something, anything is to happen to me, I will need you to get the Imperium Silver Crystal back to the future.  You have the time key.  Use it.  I know this is a really big job for such a little girl, but please, you need to promise me you will do it.”  Sun gently stroked the girl’s fine pink hair.

“But what could happen to you. You are so powerful Sailor Sun!  Please save my Mommy and Daddy!” the little girl pleaded.

“Rini, I am dying.” Just then the door opened.  A sleepy Serena walked into the room.

“Sailor Sun!  What are you doing here?” she asked as she rushed over to Rini’s bedside.

“I needed to talk to Rini.” The sailor scout stood up.

“Serena, the end is near.  Be prepared.” And she climbed out the window and was gone.  Serena turned to Rini, who had a little tear falling down her cheek.

                “Oh, Rini, what is wrong?”

“Sailor Sun is dying.”  Serena just sat there and held the little girl.  She herself could not believe what was happening.  The weeks since they had first met Sailor Sun had flown by and now it was hard to think that she would be gone soon.  Not just as a Sailor Scout, but not here at all.  It made Serena realize her own mortality, and for just an instant it scared her.

When Darien caught sight of the woman, she was back to being Adana.  She looked either way as she stepped out of the bushes.

“Coast clear?” she asked.  Darien nodded his head in affirmation.

                “How did it go?”

“She will take the crystal back if there are any problems.  So, now what?”  her companion yawned.

“I am thinking to bed with me.  How about you?”  Adana hopped into the drivers seat.

“I will take you home.  I am not tired.  I think I want to watch the sunrise.” Darien climbed into the Jeep.

“Mind if I join you?” he glanced over at her and smiles.  Adana started the engine.

                “To Tokyo Bay?”

                “To Tokyo Bay, Adana.”

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z

Darien was able to get a few hours of shuteye before the sun began rising over the bay.  Adana got out of the car and leaned up against the railing of the bridge.  Darien stretched his arms and got out of the car as well.  The sun was a beautiful vibrant red as it does every morning in Japan.  They stood there not saying a word to each other.  They didn’t have to.  Adana cared from him and he for her, but they new that deep down, no matter what happened they could never stay together.  Further and further the sun rose into the sky, but instead of the sky changing to a beautiful blue, as it should have, it stayed a dark shade of red.

Reminds me of the old adage, ”Red sky in morning sailor take warning.”  This is my warning. Thought Adana.

Silently she waked back to the car and got in.  Darien turned to look at her.

                “You ok?”

“Just thinking this might be the last sunrise I ever set my eyes on.” She stared up the Jeep.

“I am ready for Emperius.  I know today is the day.  I will find the Princess and save the future.  Then I will return to my grave.”

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z

After Adana dropped Darien off she went straight home.  Though she had been up for almost 24 hours she wasn’t the least bit tired.    Arriving at home she didn’t bother to take her shoes off as she entered the mansion.  She went right to the fridge, but of course, there was nothing in it, except a carton of milk.  As she opened it, she sniffed it.  IT was still good.  The message button was flashing on her fax machine.  Gulping on the milk she began going through the messages.  Darien, Darien, Setsuna, Setsuna, Setsuna, Setsuna…She kept going though them all.  Nothing but Darien and Setsuna  Then she got one from today.

“Uh, Adana.  It is Kenjiro.  I wanted to know if you wanted to go out to lunch or something.  Just give me a ring and I will be waiting.”  Adana put down the carton of milk.  She picked up the phone and dialed the number that Kenjiro left.  Shibu picked up the phone.

                “Hai.”

“Shibu?  It’s Adana.  Is Kenjiro there?”

“Hey Adana!  How are you.  Let me call him. Hold on.” The phone made a beeping sound.

“It will be just a minute.  You know your clothes are here from the other day.  You want to swing by and get them or should I send them with Kenjiro to school?  You must have had a quite an after party.” Shibu started, but was cut off.

“Give me that!  Adana.  Hey!  Are you up for lunch? I know this great little French bisto in Rippongi.”  Adana could hear him smile over the phone.

“Give me an hour and I will me you at the eki?”

“Which one?” he asked.

“Rippongi.  Subway eki.”

“Fine then.  I will see you soon.” She hung up the phone and went to get cleaned up.

Adana was fidgeting with her new “bracelet” when she walked up to Kenjiro.

“I see you have chosen to wear it as a bracelet.  Fair enough.  Shall we go?” he slyly slipped his hand into hers.   She didn’t say anything just smiled.  The bistro was not that far from the eki.  It was in the basement floor of a large department store.  When they entered, many people seemed to know Kenjiro and greeted him by name.  They sat at a small table in the corner.  Adana reached for the menu, but Kenjiro stopped her.

“Lunch had already been picked out.” As he finished two cups of coffee and two pieces of strawberry shortcake appeared at the table.

“But, wait a minute.  Lunch?  Didn’t we come here for lunch?” Adana was puzzled.

“You never seem to have time or room for dessert, so I am making you eat dessert first.  Come on.  Eat up.”  He dug his spoon under the strawberry that was on the top and chomped down on it.  Adana did like wise and laughed, but the laughing did not last for long.  She began to cough and made her way to the bathroom.   With in a few minutes she returned.

                “You ok?” questioned Kenjiro.

“Fine.  I just think it went down the wrong way.  This cake is really good.”

“It is my favorite place.  Whenever I have a problem, or just want to get away, I come here.  Takes me away from the world.”  He smiled one of his winning smiles. Suddenly, Adana’s keitai rang. She smiled back.

“Excuse me.  This will just take a second.” Kenjiro nodded and lit up a cigarette.  He leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs at the knee.

                “Moshi, Moshi?”

“Adana!  Where are you?” it was Setsuna.

“I am out with a friend, why?” she asked.

“Take a look up in the sky!  Don’t you see it?”  Setsuna was nearly frantic.

“No, I am in the basement.  Setsuna what is going on?  Talk to me!”

“He’s here.  He is ready.” Adana’s face fell.  She looked over at Kenjiro who was smiling then a worried look crossed his face.

“I am on my way.” She hung up the phone.

“What is it?  Is everything alright?” Adana was gathering up her things.

“Thank you for the cake.  I have to go.  Call me tomorrow ok?” she hurried out. Kenjiro just sat back, bewildered at what had just happened.

Adana made her way for the roof.  She looked around.  Everything was still, silent.  A 360-degree view revealed that the sky was still the same colour red it was this morning, the colour of blood. The crystal ship that Emperius used appeared in the distance.

You are mine now.  She thrust her hand into the air and transformed. After she did so, she opened her transformation broach.

“Sailor Pluto?  Are you there?”  the face became clearer and clearer.  It was that of Sailor Pluto.

“Sailor Sun, do you see it?” referring to the ship.

“Yeah, but where is it located.” Sailor Sun questioned.

“Over the greatest of radio towers, Tokyo Tower.”

“I am on my way.”  She crouched down and leapt up into the air. In an instant she was gone.

By the time Sailor Sun got there, the fight was in full swing.  The sailor scouts had already taken a great beating.  And aura appeared around Sailor Sun.  She gathered all of her strength.

“Emperius,” she pointed her arm straight out  and pointed a finer at him, “this is the end of the line for you.  I am Sailor Sun, and in the name of the Moon, the past, the present, and the future I will do away with you.  Prepare to meet your end.”  The sailor scouts turned to look.

“Sailor Sun you came.  Good I am tired of playing with all these children.  Finally someone who can put up a real fight.” Emperius floated down to the ground.  Meanwhile, Sailor Sun joined the other sailor scouts.  She turned to Sailor Moon.

“Neo-Queen Serenity, I have failed you and I am sorry.  I was sent here to find the second half of the Imperium Silver Crystal so that your sister may help you save the future.  I have not succeeded in my mission.  I would hope that once I eradicate Emperius, that I may continue my quest till my death.”  Sailor Moon smiled at her.

“You have not failed me.  You have been a great asset.  You will not fail. I know you won’t.” but Sailor Moon could not finish.  Emprius had appeared behind Sailor Sun.  He spun her around and held her by the neck, nearly choking her. As a reaction she grabbed his wrist with both hands.

“What? Not going to put up a fight?” but he noticed a stream of red running down his hand.  A rose was sticking out of it.  He dropped Sailor Sun and attended to his wounded hand.  Tuxedo Mask was standing a ways away.

“Tuxedo Mask!” she shouted .  He just tipped his to hat at her.  The rest of the Sailors poised for attack.

“Wait.” Tuxedo Mask shouted. “This is her fight.  Let’s not interfere only if necessary.”

“But Tuxedo Mask, he could kill her!” shouted Sailor Venus.  “We have to do something to help!”

“No! Only if she asks for it.  This is something she has been waiting a long time for.” He spouted.  Emperius had drawn a sword and was ready for his attack.

“We. End. This. Here. Sailor. Sun!” he emphasized.  From nowhere here Katana appeared.

“I have waited to destroy you since my reincarnation.  The Master always knew it would come to this.  You and me a fight to the death!” they crossed swords.  The sharp blades were just millimeters from their faces.  They pushed away from each other.  IN an instant you could hear the clanging of steel, but the other sailor scouts could not see what was going on.  The two adversaries were like flashes of lightning as they went after eachother.  Suddenly, Emperius appeared on the observation deck of the tower.

“Good bye Sun!” a green light surrounded him and shot out at Sailor Sun.  It engulfted her hand send thousands of volts of electricity through her body. In agony, she screamed.  It was a pain like no other she had ever felt.  It was like a million swords being ripped through her at once.  The energy ball faded and dropped her to the ground.  The sailor scouts ran to her side.  Sailor Pluto picked up the girls head and placed it in her lap.  Sailor Sun opened her eyes slightly.   Sailor Jupiter put her hands together.

“Oak Evolution!” she aimed at Emprius.  It clipped him, but did little damage. He laughed maniacally.

“If I would have know it was that easy, I would have done that a long time ago to get rid of you.  You and I are perfect matches with the sword.  Trained in the same way.   But my raw power far exceeds yours Sun!” he continued to laugh.  Sailor Sun sat up, and coughed.  Blood trickled down the side of her chin.

“Solar Flare!” she let her attack fly.  It hit his square in the chest.  A bright flash of light appeared and part of the observation platform was missing, as was Emperius.  The sailor scouts let out a sigh of relief.  He was gone.

“Sailor Sun you did it!” cheered Sailor Moon.

“Not so fast, Sailor Bitch!” Emperius was standing in front of them, his jacket torn, blood trickling from an open wound in the side of his head.

“I will not be DEFEATED!” He screamed at her.  Sailor Sun stood up.

“Oh yes you will!  Solar Rage!”  She let the attack fly and Emperius disappeared, this time for good.

She grabbed the pendant from around her neck.  In a single motion she tore it of and threw it to the ground. Picking up her foot she ground it into powder.  Everyone gasped.

“Sailor Sun, what are you doing?” shouted Pluto.

“I no longer need it.” She took her compact from off her chest and thrust it into the air.

“Cosmic Evolution!” she shouted and she transformed.  Her fuku turned to ribbons and she became Adana again.  But starting from the roots her hair was bleaching. Red, then pink, orange, yellow, blonde, then white.  She was engulfed in a blinding white light.  The ribbons were replaced with a short silver kimono, her hair swept back up into the heart shaped odongo that they had been in before.

“Soloris. Princess Soloris!” Sailor Pluto joined his side.  Her mouth hung up.

“She is the Princess.  The princess and the guardian are one.” She said.

“Then Sailor Sun is my sister!” Sailor Moon spouted.  The kimono vanished and was replaced with a white sailor fuku.  A staff in her hands, and a new brooch appeared.

“I was born of Sun and Moon, a sailor of the cosmos. I am Princess Soloris.  I am Sailor Sun.  I am a giver.  I am a destroyer.” She turned to the sailor senshi.

“My fellow Sailors.  You have helped me in my quest.  Now it is my turn to repay you.” She opened her brooch.  The second half of the Imperium Silver Crystal lay inside.  She took it out and handed it to Sailor Moon.

“Sailor Moon, my younger sister.  Take this to Rini. Make sure she gets it back to the future.  Your life and the fate of the world lie in your hands now.” A radiant light appeared all around her. In an instant a red stain shown at her mid section, and the edge of a blade came slicing through.   The senshi turned around.

“If I die you die too.” He retreated to the tower. “I will not let you win.” Despite the pain, she lifted her staff.  She placed the staff between her hands like she was praying.   Her eyes flashed red as she looked at her adversary.  Taking the staff by the center, she twirled it around.

“Phoenix…….RISING!” In an instant the sky became bright, like the sun was shinning again.  The entire world was still and quiet.  For a moment that seemed like an eternity the entire world was still.  Everyone was at peace. But just as that moment came, the moment ended.  The air was filled  with a great flash of red appeared bathing everyone in a eerie light.  Flames came up from every direction like the devil himself had opened the gates of hell. The only sound heard were the screams of Emperius as he was pulled in every direction.  Every cell in his body broke down on the molecular level and vaporized.  In a gruesome instant, he was gone, as was half of the famous orange tower.  The sailor fell backwards from the fatal blow. She was once again Adana, but this time, her hair remained white.

“Sailor Moon, please hurry.  Get the crystal to Rini.  Before it is too late.” Her voice was quiet.  Her breathing shallow.  Sailor Pluto ran to her side. In the blink of an eye she was regular old Setsuna again.

“Get an ambulance!” she cried. “Someone please get an ambulance.” The sailor scouts didn’t know what to do.  Neptune turned and buried her face into Uranus’s shoulder.  Everyone just stood around, so stunned they didn’t know what to do.

“Sailor Moon, please, hurry.” Pleaded the young woman.

“But, Soloris, I can help you.  The crystal can save you.” She went to hand it back to her.  Adana just pressed her hands back at her.

“No, you and the Sailor Scouts go. Hurry please.” The sailor scouts turned to leave, but Sailor Moon refused to budge. Sailor Mercury  ran up to her side.

“Sailor Moon come on.” She said quietly.

“Sailor Moon!” hollered Mercury.  Darien knelt down next to Adana.

“Please. Go.  I called an ambulance.” He stated.  Sailor Moon turned and followed the rest of the scouts away.  Neptune and Uranus revered to just being Michiru and Haruka.  Together they waited for the ambulance.

“Hang on Adana.” Stated Setsuna as she took off her jacket and tried to stop the bleeding. “Just hang on.”

Adana spent several hours in emergency surgery.  The doctors had not seen such extensive damage in a quite some time.  The head surgeon walked out of the operating room, shaking his head. Setsuna was the first to speak with him.

“Doctor, will she be alright?” she asked.  The others joined her side. He kneaded his hands together.

“The next 48 hours are the most crucial, but I would go ahead and call her next of kin.” Setsuna looked at Michiru then at Haruka.

“I will call her father.” She pointed at Michiru. “You go call the others.” She pointed at Haruka. “You go to her apartment and get a few things for her.  Darien, go with Michiru.  Make sure that Rini made it back to the future.”  Haruka placed a hand on Setsuna’s shoulder.

“Are you going to be ok?” Setsuna nodded her head.

“Yeah, I will be fine.  If I can get through this phone call to her father.”  They all walked off quietly in their respective directions.  Just then, Adanas purse began to ring.

Oh, Adana’s keitai!  I have totally neglected the thought of her friends.

Setsuna carefully picked up the keitai and answered the phone, her hand shaking.

                “Moshi…Moshi..” she answered.

“Uh, is Adana there?” the voice asked.

“No this is her friend Setsuna.  Can I help you?.”

“This is Kumiko.  Can I talk with Adana please?” asked the girl.

“Actually no.” she glanced as they moved the incapacitated Adana down the hall to the elevator.

“She is just getting out of surgery as we speak.”

“Surgery?!?!  What do you mean surgery?” the girl nearly screamed into the phone. “What the hell happened?”  Setsuna took a deep breath. She was going to use the same story she had given the police.

“She was attacked outside of Tokyo Tower.”

                “What hospital?”

“Tokyo General. Listen I have to go.” Before Kumiko could answer she had clicked off the phone.  She ran up to the doctor’s side.

“Doctor, please.” She begged.  The doctor flipped the chart open.  He knew she wanted the real details.

“Well, she is headed up to ICU right now.  Frankly, I don’t think she will wake up, but we are allowing flowers, gifts, and visitors, but only two people at a time. We had to remove part of her liver and a kidney as well as part of her stomach and intestinal track. I have never in my entire time practicing have seen such a hack job.  Whoever attacked her was going for the kill.  They might have killed her.  I really do not expect her to live through the night to be perfectly honest.” Setsuna began to weep.

                “I am sorry.” He finished.

“You did the best you can.  That is all we can ask of you.  Thank you.” The doctor nodded to the green haired woman and walked away.

Kenjiro had just come in from the veranda where he was smoking a cigarette.  He really hated smoking outside, but his father insisted upon it.  Shibu was sitting in one of the large leather wing backed chairs that was in the office.  Suddenly, the phone rang.

“I’ll get it!” she jumped up out of the chair and ran to the phone.  Kenjiro picked up the newspaper that his new sister had been reading.  He read a few lines then set the paper down.  Nothing particularly caught his eye.  As he turned around he noticed that Shibu had quit talking and had dropped the phone, a grave look on her face.  Kenjiro walked to the desk and picked up the phone.

“Hai.”

“Kenjiro?  It is Kumiko.  It’s Adana.  She was attacked.  By Tokyo Tower. She is at Tokyo General.” The girl’s voice shook with shock as she spoke.

“Very funny Kumiko.  Bravo.  You are becoming quite the actress.” He smiled as he spoke.

“Don’t be such a dick Kenjiro!  I am not kidding!” Kumiko hung up the phone on him.  Shibu has retreated to a chair.  Her face had a blank expression on it. Turning to look at her, he leaned up on the desk. Before he spoke he let out a little huff like laugh.

“She is kidding right?” he scoffed.  Shibu just shook her head no.  Kenjiro picked up a cigarette from the pack he had and lit it.

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                             Michiru and Darien just couldn’t call the others, they wanted to find the others and tell them personally.  They walked up to Serena’s door and gave it a swift double knock.  Her mother answered the door.

“Hello Darien, nice to see you again.” Mrs. Tsukino stated with a slight bow.

“Is Serena in?” he asked.  The middle aged woman wiped her hands off in her apron.

“I am sorry, she is not.  I think she is at Rei’s actually.  You should check there first.” Darien nodded his head as Michiru walked back to Darien’s car.

“And how is Rini?” he asked.  Mrs. Tsukino looked puzzled.

“Who?” She asked.  Darien shook her head.  That was the answer he was looking for.  That meant that Rini had gone back to the future.

“Thank you.  I will go check the temple.” He turned and walked away.  Michiru was standing next to the car, the door already open.

“Atleast we know that Rini got back to the future.  Whether she is safe or not is a different story.  With that, they got in the sports car and hurried off to the temple.

Haruka took the key to Adana’s apartment and opened the door quietly.  He did not want to bring any attention to himself.  When he got in, he again marveled at it’s size.  Never before had he seen a mansion so big.  Sighing, he started into the living room.  Everything was in place.  He shuffled through some of the magazines on the table.

What am I looking for?  Actually, what should I take to her incase she wakes up? Ending his search in the living room, he proceeded to her bedroom.  This was a girl’s most private sanctum, and would give him the most information.  When he entered he grabbed a large shopping bag off the floor.  In it he threw a pair of pajamas he found in the drawer, some fresh underclothes, a picture of her and her family, and lastly he grabbed a pillow of her bed.  Underneath the pillow was a tattered blanket. It had a frayed satin edge and the pattern was of an ancient Winnie the Pooh.  After turning the blanket over in his hands he put the blanket in the bag as well.  Giving the place a once over he left, making sure to close the door behind him.

His next stop was the kitchen.  The message button on her fax machine was blinking.  Haruka grabbed a pad of paper of the counted and was poised to take a message.

“Adana. It is Kenjiro. Give me a call when you get a chance. Thanks.”  Haruka jotted down a note.  Next message was starting.

“Adana, honey, this is your Father.  Are you ever home?  I have called at all hours on the day and night and you never seem to answer.  Anyway, I am on vacation in France for the next two weeks.  I really don’t want to be bothered unless someone is dying.  Called Yamada-san if you need to get a hold of me.  He knows where I will be.  Other than that I love you and need those FDI reports by the end of the month.  Love you!  Bye.” Haruka nearly dropped the pad.

Perfect time for a vacation, Mr. Masters.  Now we have no way of getting a hold of you and it is a matter of life and death.

Next to the phone was a small grey planner with My Melody embroidered on it.  Haruka picked it up and began to page through it.  It contained the typical high school student stuff, but no number for Yamada-san.  Though it proved to help, he placed it in the bag as well.  Leaving the kitchen, he made his way to the genkan.  Haruka put his shoes on and gave the mansion one last look.  Sighing, he walked out the door, locking it behind him.

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                             Within the hour Adana’s room began to fill up with flowers, balloons, and stuffed animals.  Setsuna was shocked.

How did the word spread so fast?  That girl who called must have super fingers or a great speed dial. She thought.  Adana had yet to wake up.  Setsuna made her way to the pay phones and dialed Adana’s father’s office.  The secretary picked up the phone.

“Mr. Masters’s office, Regina speaking” the delightful woman said.

“Regina, this is Setsuna, a friend of Adana’s.  I need to talk with Mr. Master’s as soon as possible.  There has been an accident.” Setsuna said a little bit fast.

“Well, Mr. Master is on vacation right now, can I leave him a message.” The woman stated.  Setsuna made a fist and hit the wall next to the pay phone.

“I don’t think you get it.  Adana has had an accident.  She’s clinging for life after 5 or so hours of emergency surgery. Now you are going to get Mr. Masters for me, right?” Setsuna was very testy and rude as well.

“Actually I do not have the number of where he can be reached.  He left no forwarding number in case of emergency. I will have to do some searching. Is there a number where I can reach you at?” Now she was talking.

“Yes, you can call me back at 090-9231-1181.  That is Adana’s cell phone, but I have it here with me. Thank you Regina.”

“I am not making any promises, but I will try and see what I can do.”  Setsuna hung up the phone and walked back to Adana’s room. For a moment she lingered in the doorway looking at all the machines she was hooked up to. It was a sight she had seen once before, but this time, she knew that Adana was slipping away. She entered the room and sat down in a chair next to the comatose girl’s bed.

“Why did you have to play the hero?  Why Soloris, why?  We could have saved you.  You could have saved the future.  Everyone could have been happy.” Setsuna wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. “Why?” she whispered.

The girls were all around the table drinking o-cha.  Rei walked in with a plate of cookies.

“This should cheer everyone up!” she placed the plate down on the table.  In silence they started reaching for the sweet confections.

“So, did Rini make it back to the future ok?” asked Mina.  Serena nodded.

“As far as I know.  Yet again it is so quiet now that she is gone.  I just hope she is back soon.” Ami put down the book she was reading.

“I bet she will be back before you know it.  Oh, Tuesday the results for the entrance exams come out.  Aren’t you excited.” Everyone started chatting at once about what school they hoped to go to and what the exam was like for them.  Suddenly, the door opened.  Michiru was standing in the doorway.  She smiled.

“May I come in, or am I interrupting something?” the young woman asked in her plesant voice.  Rei made a motion with her hand.

“Please.”  Michi gave a small bow and entered.  Sitting down at the low table, Rei porred her a glass of o-cha.  Gingerly she took a sip then put the hot glass down.

“I just came to let you all know how Adana is doing.” A few of the girls perked up.

“Michiru is she going to be alright?” asked Lita.  Michiru let out a small sight.

“She is not expected to survive the next 48 hours.” She said trying to choke back a tear.

“But what about Sailor Sun?  Or Princess Soloris?  What becomes of them?” Serena questioned, nearly foaming at the mouth.  Michiru again just shook her head.

“We don’t know.  If you want to see her she is at Tokyo General.  Any more than that I do not know.”  The mousy girl got up and went for the door.  Before opening it, she stopped.

“I am sorry to be the bringer of such news. Please, excuse me.” And out the door she went.  The girls just sat there for a moment.  Mina was the first to start.

“Should we go see her?” Lita pounded her fist on the table.

“Of course we go and see her.  She is one of us, isn’t she?” others began nodding in affirmation.   They began gathering their things to leave.

“I don’t see why you all are making such a big deal!  Sailor Sun was bad news, and frankly, I am not sure if we should go or not.” Started Rei. Serena just stared her down.

“She might not have done things our way, but she is still my sister.  I have to go.  We have to go.” Serena was angry and everyone knew it.

“Ok, ok.  I am sorry.” Deep down inside Rei wanted to go, but just didn’t know how to deal with the entire thing.  All the way along she had a bad feeling about Adana, but she still kinda liked the girl.  What she was most worried about was Sailor Sun.  She was senshi she could do without.

Michiru climbed back in the car.  She buckled her safety belt and turned to the driver who was starting the engine.

“Why didn’t you come in?” She asked as they pulled away and into traffic.

“This is a no parking zone.  Since I stayed in the car, I wasn’t towed.  It is hell having your car impounded in the city.” He retorted.

“Honestly, Darien, why didn’t you come in? It is because of Serena isn’t it?” she pressed on, but Darien didn’t answer. He just continued to drive.

Setsuna looked up as the door slid open.  It was Darien and Michiru.  She turned and shook her head.

“So did you tell them?” Michiru nodded in affirmation.  Darien walked over to the other side of the bed.  He grabbed a chair and sat down in it.

“They will probably be coming soon.” She answered.

“Probably.” Repeated Setsuna.  A swift knock came at the door and it slid open.  Haruka stood in the doorway with a bag in his hands.

“There is a problem.  Adana’s father is on vacation.”

“I know.” Stated Setsuna.

“He leave a forwarding number with,” Haruka pulled a sheet of paper out of his pocket, “a Yamada-san.  I checked her planner, but I couldn’t find a number where to reach him.” Placing the bag on the table, he began to pull things out of it.  On the top was the blanket.  Walking over to Adana’s bed he gently lifted up her head and placed the folded blanket under her pillow.  Next to her he placed her stuffed Melody. When finished, Michiru slipped her hand in his.

“Setsuna,” she began, “ how long has it been since you ate or slept?” The green haired vixen just shook her head.

“ I don’t know.” Setsuna answered.

“Why don’t you get something to eat at least?  We should all go.” She nudged Haruka with her arm and the pair made their way to the door.  After a moment, Setsuna got up and followed them.

“Darien? Come on. If you sit her moping around you will do her no good.  At least come with us to get something to eat.” Darien stood up.

“Fine.  I’ll go.” He walked through the door and Setsuna grabbed it behind him.  She looked back at Adana.  Squinting her eyes, she looked more closely at the young woman.  The girl picked up her hand slightly.

“Sets….” A shaky voice that was just above a whisper came. Setsuna let go of the door and ran to her side.  She grabbed Adana’s hand and held it against her face. Tears of joy ran down her face.

“Did we win?” Adana asked every so quietly.  Darien and Michiru joined Setsuna’s side.  Haruka ran out to get a doctor or nurse, which ever he could find. The tears flowed from everyone’s eyes. Setsuna let out a huge smile.

“Yes. You won.  Rini made it back to the future. Empherius is dead.  You won.” Just then a doctor came in.

“Excuse me. Let me through please” he grabbed Setsuna’s shoulder and moved her out of the way.  Setsuna complied and let the ill girls hand go. The doctor took Adana’s pulse and checked her vitals.  Then he picked up the covers and checked her bandages.  They were stained red with blood. The group knew that was not a good sign.

“I am going to have a nurse come in her and replace these.  You really need your rest young lady.  It is a miracle you are even alive.” He patted her head, then wrote in her chart.

“I know.” Her weak voice said.

“Shhhhh.  Save your strength.” Darien asked.  Her head gave a slight nod.  The doctor turned to the rest of them.

“She needs to rest.  It would be good if you left her alone for just a little bit. Visiting hours are almost over, and after that only next of kin can stay. Darien and Setsuna nodded their heads.

“We understand.” Setsuna turned to Adana.

“All of us are going to get something to eat. It won’t be to long till we are back ok?” she said.

“Can you bring me Nachan?” Adana asked as she turned her head toward her Melody.  Setsuna nodded her head as she closed the door behind her.

Serena was holding a big bouquet of flowers and taking her foot as they waited to find out what room Adana was in.  Lita was doing all the talking with the nurse.

“She is in room 777, ICU.”

“Thank you.”  Lita returned to the group.

“I guess it is up to ICU then.”  And said.  Serena was looking at the floor and fidgeting. Ami put an arm around her shoulder.

“You ok?” she asked.  Serena gave her a grave look.

“I don’t like hospitals.  They scare me.”

“There is nothing to be afraid of.  Here children are born and lives are saved everyday.  Hospitals are not full of death, but life.” The elevator was there and they all climbed on. At the seventh floor they got out and found Darien sitting in the lobby.  He stood up and put down the magazine he was reading.

“I am glad you all came.  She woke up a few hours ago, but has since gone back to sleep.  Setsuna is in there with her now. Haruka and Michiru have gone home.” He said quickly.

“I would hurry in there if you want to see her, visiting hours are almost over.  Be warned they only let two people in there at a time.” He sat back down.

“Serena, why don’t you and Lita go first.  You know her best.” Suggested Mina.  They two girls walked into the room.  Setsuna stood up and put her hands in her pocket.

“Hey, I am glad you all came.” She said. Serena put the flowers on the windowsill since there was no room on any other horizontal surface.

“How is she doing?” asked Lita.

“Things are not good.  She is bleeding from her stitches, which means internal bleeding.  They are going to take her back into surgery first thing in the morning. But, she woke up.”

“That is what Darien said.” Serena spoke up. She looked down at Adana.

“She saved my life.  Soloris sacrificed herself one time before for me.  Now she does it again.  What did I ever do to deserve this?” A tear fell from Serena’s eye.

“You have a big heart.  Given the circumstances I know you would have done the same for her, for anyone for that matter.” Lita stated.  Serena managed to smile.  A nurse stuck her head in.

“I hate to bother you all, but visiting hours are almost over.” She said and then closed the door.

“We better go so the others can have a chance.” Said Serena.

“I’ll join you. I have to use the restroom.” Said Setsuna.

“Me too.” Piped up Lita.  They left and let everyone else into the room so that they may see Adana.  This left Darien and Serena in the lobby together.  Serena sat down next to Darien. For just a moment they said nothing, just sat there.

“I loved her before I knew you. She told me to take care of you.” He let out a small laugh. “I guess I took that a little too far. I feel in love with you.” Serena perked up just a little bit. She turned to look at him.

“I don’t think I can take it if Adana, Soloris, the person lying in that bed in that room dies.” He was a little overzealous as he spoke.  Serena put her arm around him.  Darien embraced her and put his head in her shoulder.

“She died in my arms and I did nothing to stop it.  Serena I am sorry.” Tears began squeeze out of his eyes.

They let go of each other as everyone began to converge.

“Darien if you don’t mind I am going to stay with her tonight.  She is going to go into surgery at 5.30.  I am also going to try and find a number for Yamada-san and get a hold of her father if at all possible tonight.” Everyone just nodded their heads and left. Most of all, Darien was to exhausted to put up a fight.

“I will be here in the morning.” He said.

“Fine. That will be fine.” she said as she crossed her arms.  “Well, goodnight.”

Z             Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                Z                             The morning came way too soon for Setsuna.  She grabbed a bite of breakfast while Adana was in surgery.  Afterwards, picked up the phone and called Mr. Masters’s office.  It was still the middle of the night in LA, but she wanted to leave a message. As she had hoped, she got the voice mail.

“Regina, this is Setsuna, Adana’s friend.  If it is of any help, Mr. Masters left a message on her machine about leaving a number with a Yamada-san.  If you need me you can still reach me at the number I gave you yesterday.  Thank you.” And she hung up the phone. Setsuna walked outside.  Looking down she noticed she was still in the blood stained clothes that she was wearing when they brought Adana in.  She picked up Adana’s keitai and dialed Michi’s.  Haruka picked up the phone.

                “Haruka.”

“Hey, Haruka.  It’s Sets. Can you do me a favor and bring me some clothes?” she asked.

“Yeah.  Michiru and I have to do a few things at school today, so we will swing by before we go, ok?  How is Adana doing.” He asked.

“They had to take her back into surgery this morning.  I hope she gets out soon.”

“Me too.  We will swing by the hospital in about 30 minutes, ok?” he asked.

“That will be fine. Thank you.” And she hung up the phone, and continued to walk around.

It was almost 8 when they returned Adana to her room.  Darien was actually in there when they rolled her in.  She was till under anesthesia, but she did show signs of being partially awake.

“Darien.  Hey.” Said Setsuna as she slid the door closed.

“Hey Setsuna.” He glanced at her, especially at her blood stained clothes.  “You know, you really aught to go home. Get some sleep and a shower and you will feel better.”

“I will after Haruka gets here.  I had no idea what time you were getting here so I called them to bring me some clothes.  They should be here soon, so I will leave after they get here.  Actually, I think I will go down in the lobby and wait for them.” She left the room.  Darien was left there with Adana. He grabbed her hand and began to rub it.  For the first time he noiced how frail she really was.

“Adana,” he began, “I don’t know what to say..  Yet again, you take the blade when you shouldn’t have.  Why do you keep doing this? To save me? To save others? Quit being so selfless!  The future is not set in stone!  We can change it.  You and I can change it.” He felt a slight pressure in his hand as Adana tried to squeeze it.

“The future is yours and Serena’s now.” She said quietly.

“Your awake.” He brushed the side of her face with his hand moving a few  hairs out of her line of sight.

“Did you bring my Nachan?” she asked.

“I will go get you one.” She looked around the room at all the flowers.

“Where did all these come from?” she asked.  Darien got up.

“Lets see.” He pulled a card and read it.

“These are from Dai and Hiromi.” He told her.  Going around the room he pulled all the cards if there were any and read them to Adana.  A slight smile crossed her face.  Adana listened and glanced over at the table next to her bed.  The picture of her and her family that was on nightstand was on it.  She looked at it.

I love you Mom and Dad. I can’t wait to see you both again.

“I am tired.  I am going to sleep now.” Before she did she looked up at Darien.

“Raggie?  Did you bring him?” Darien put the card he was about to read to her away and turned around.

“Raggie?” he asked as a puzzled look crossed his face.

“My blanket.  Did you find it in my room?” she asked.

“Oh, that.  Yeah, Haruka found it under your pillow when he brought along with your picture, pajamas and stuff.  It is under your pillow.” He walked to the door.  Adana just smiled and settled into her bed and fell asleep.

Kumiko got of the elevator on the seventh floor.  She came toting a basket overflowing with make up, accessories, and a few clothing items for Adana.  In addition there were a few live plants in the basket.

“Adana?” she asked as she slid the door open.  Adana turned her head to look. A weak smile crossed her face.

“Kumi-chan.” She said.  Kumiko held up the basket.

“Brought you somethings that would make you feel better.” She began pulling things out of the basket. “Make up, some hair clippies, Oh the best part.” She produced a package. “The best is in here.”

“What is it?” Adana asked weekly. Kumiko opened it.

“New pajamas!  They are from the whole gang.  Yves St. Lauren so you are stylish in the hospital. Plus, everything else in here is matching!  Don’t want to look drab in the hospital.” She said with a childlike grin.

“Thank you, Kumiko.” Adana kept smiling.

                “What happened?” asked Kumiko.

“Crazy guy at the tower.  I don’t know.” Her voice was very faint. Kumiko smiled and placed a hand on her arm.

“I am just glad you are alright.” A knock came at the door.  A huge bouquet of flowers came though the door.  No one would have guessed that there was a person carrying them until they were laid down on the bed.  From behind the flowers emerged Kenjiro.  Without being asked Kumiko got up.

“Will leave you two alone. I will be back later, ok Adana?” Adana nodded her head, and Kumiko walked out the door, and closed it quietly behind her.  Kenjiro laid the flowers over Adana’s lap, and sat down in the vacated chair.

“If you didn’t want to eat dessert first, then you should have just said something.  I would have changed the plans and gotten us lunch first.” He let out a little laugh. Adana smiled a weak smile.

“How are you doing?” he said as he picked up her hand and placed it in his lap.

“Ok.  I am still waiting for my Nachan.  I asked for it last night and I still haven’t gotten it.” Adana said innocently.  Kenjiro smiled.

“I don’t think the doctor would let you have that.  You have to get better soon.  Graduation is just a few weeks away.  They are letting me make the speech.  Plus there is a bottle of champagne in the fridge that is chilling just for the occasion.”

“I forgot to tell you about that.  Did Shibu tell you?” Adana adjusted her head.  She kept looking around the room for something. Kenjiro stroked the side of her face.

“Save your strength,” he soothed, “What are you looking for?  Can I get it?” He asked placing her hand back on the bed, and getting up from the chair he was sitting in.

“My purse…” her voice was getting weak.  Kenjiro knew that she would need to sleep soon.  After searching around the room, he finally found the bag in a drawer.  He went back to the chair and sat with the bag in his lap.

“What do you want?” Adana reached her hand in and fiddled with something.  After a few moments she produced her hand.    She opened it up and the necklace that Kenjiro had given her was in it.  Kenjiro took it from her and rubbed his fingers over the platinum.

“Will you put it on me?” she asked.  “I lost the other one when I was attacked.” He reached over and clasped the necklace around her neck. She tried to lift an arm to touch it but was to weak to do so.

“It looks beautiful.” He reassured her. “By the way what did happen?” Adana shifted and lifted her head just a little higher on her pillow.

“Wel, I got a call and met Darien and my friend Setsuna at the Tower. There was this crazy guy and a sword and blood, and from there I remember nothing.” She muttered in a very child like manner.

                “Darien?” she nodded.

“Was anyone else hurt?” he asked.  Adana shook her head no.

“Excuse me, but I am going to have to ask you to leave now.” A nurse had entered the room carrying a tray.

“I have to check her new sutures and replace the bandages.  It won’t take that long.” Kejiro got up and placed Adana’s purse on the table next to the picture of her and her family.  He then leaned over and kissed her forehead.

“Honto ni. Kimi wa suki da.” He whispered in her ear. Then he walked out the door.

Kumiko was waiting in the lobby for him.

“So, how is she?” she asked.

“Weak.  Very weak.  But she asked me to put the necklace I bought her on, so I am taking that as a good sign.” Kumiko gave him a puzzled look.  He motioned around his neck.

“A vine thing with little diamonds.  Don’t ask.  The lady at Tiffany’s talked me into it.”  Kumiko just made a face and didn’t say a word. To their right the door to the elevator opened and Darien walked out carrying Adana’s bottle of Nachan.  Kejiro stared at him for a few moments, the walked over to him.  In a fit Kenjiro grabbed Darien by the shirt and slammed him against the door of a closed elevator.

“You son of a bitch!  How could you let this happen to her!? You coward!” he repeatedly slammed him in to the elevator.  Darien grabbed his hand and batted Kenjiro away.

“You act as if I wanted this to happen! I am hurting just as much as you are!” he hollered at Kejiro as he pushed the young man back. Kumiko ran to Kenjiro’s side.

“Bullshit!” he went to punch Darien.  Kumiko grabbed him and tried to hold him back, but wasn’t successful.  He knocked Darien right in the side of the face.  Darien went to return the punch, but someone grabbed him from.  It was Setsuna who had just gotten off the elevator.  Hollering started coming from both girls as they tried to subdue the warring factions.  Within seconds they stopped, but they both had a fire in their eye.  Shortly after they had the two subdued, a frenzy started at the nurses station.  Setsuna rushed over with the others closely at her heels.

“What is it?” she asked.

“The girl in 777’s vitals are all over the place. The doctors are coming to take a look.” They all ran down the hall to Adana;s room.  Doctors were coming and going. Kumiko caught one by the arm.

“Doctor?” she said, her hand shaking.

“I am sorry.  She is in a coma.  We put her on life support until next of kin arrives.” Kumiko put both hands to her face and turned it to Kenjiro for comfort.  She buried her face in his shoulder. He just stood there.

“It will be two days till he can get here.” She told the doctor.

“We will allow one person to stay with her, but from now on no visitors.” The doctor said. Darien looked up.

“I will stay with her until her father gets her.” Kenjiro pushed Kumiko away and confronted Darien.

“Why do you get to stay with her?  You are the reason she is here!” he spouted.

“You are right.  I am responsible.  That is why I will stay.” And with that he opened the door and walked in.  A few nurses and another doctor walked out right after he did. Setsuna slipped in as they left. An instant later she walked out, swigging the Nachan.

“Lets just go Kenjiro.” Kumiko grabbed his arm and began to pull.  He pulled his arm away.

                “No.” he said.

“It is best we all leave.  There is nothing we can do now.” Kenjiro just stood there just a moment then walked out with Kumiko.  After a few minutes passed, Setsuna headed her own advice and left.

“How long has he been in there?” asked Lita.  She and Setsuna were sitting on the floor outside of Adana’s room on the seventh floor.  Setsuna let out a sigh.

“Two days straight.  The doctors are beginning to question his sanity.  They have been bringing him a meal every so often out of pity. I don’t know how long he will last like this.  Suddenly the door swung open.  Darien came rushing out.  Setsuna and Lita got up suddenly.

“DOCTOR!  DOCTOR!” he screamed.  Setsuna rushed into the room.  From outside the room you could hear it. The sound was coming from the machines. It was the piercing drone of a flat line……..
