Low fantasy is my prefered form of fantasy. The characters exist in a world that has real world type problems. Magic tends to be common, and is also used for more than just combat. There is usually no one villin threating the world. At best there is a government that threatens the peace. The characters can't directly attack the leaders of the government. Killing the leader is not only tough due to bodyguards, but ineffective. The government will get a new leader who will usually continue on the same course.
