Serena O'Conner was a beautiful, care free girl at the age of eighteen, with long, thick hair and glowing blue eyes. Her body was long and slim, her features those of a young woman. When she walked by at the university all of the men stopped to stare at her, there mouths hanging open in both awe and lust. She met him the day she went out with her friends to a very sophisticated restaurant, where the three young women were all giggling and looking at all the handsome men in there suits. He sat across the room alone, nursing his brandy and silently broading over the latest news that had been given to him. His grandfather was dying, he wanted him to marry before he passed on, and of course he wanted him to marry Lita. His grandfather loved Lita, she was perfect for Darien, he said. He looked up and saw her, sitting and laughing at something one of her two friends had said. She had looked so beautiful, surreal almost. He was up and approaching her immediately. Amy and Mina saw him coming and held there breath, each hoping he was coming for them, but his eyes were riveted on Serena alone. He took her onto the dance floor, where they danced all night, both so enraptured in one another and obviously already in love. It was like a dream come true. He began spending every waking moment with her, taking her out to dinner, bringing her flowers, stealing a kiss, laughing with her. He hadn't planned on staying in California long, only to get his business done then fly back home to Greece, but Serena had kept him there. Her smile, her laughter, her outlook on life. She was everything he had ever wanted. He postponed going to Greece over and over again, calling his family constantly and telling them he was still needed on business, but Lita caught on when he called. His distance with her was evident, especially when she told him she would be going away for days and he hadn't even bothered to ask where. He had only agreed absently and hung up in the next second. She went to California, she followed him and found him with Serena. And the moment she saw him with her, she knew. He loved her. He loved her more then he would ever love her, Lita. Well, she doubted there had ever been a moment he had ever really loved her. But she loved him. She confronted him, she told him she knew all about Serena and his betrayal, and she told him she wasn't going to just stand by and allow it to happen. They were to be married, she said, his grandfather would die if he found out about Darien's betrayal of her. She knew deep down that if Darien's grandfather met Serena he would love her, love her just as much as Darien obviously did. And then Lita would be forgotten. But she saw her plan had worked, for Darien's eyes changed at this, and he seemed to realize she was right. He left her then without a backward glance. Darien went to Serena that night, not hugging her when she ran to him and held him. He didn't respond when she kissed him, only allowed her to lead him to the bed in her little apartment. He sat there, dazed and staring at her with mournful eyes. When she began to worry, he put his hands to her cheek and brought his lips to hers, kissing her slowly. She was confused at first, then began to respond, her arms coming up to his neck and holding him tightly, a little moan escaping past her lips. He removed her clothing, then his, kissing her all the while, holding her closely to him. And when he entered her it was the most joyous feeling she had ever experienced. She trembled with the intensity of there joining, feeling him stiffen above her and draw in his breath sharply. And when he began to move she was ready for him, wrapping her long legs around his waist, her arms about his strong shoulders, his tongue melding with hers. She could feel him moving against her, feel the pleasure slowly building inside. His hot breath was coming quick, his voice whispering her name repeatedly, telling her he loved her and only her. Just when she thought she could bear no more, she was flooded with waves and waves of intense, white hot pleasure, crying out his name. He groaned above her and held her tightly, his lips attaching to hers. He kissed her there for sometime, until he finally pulled away, gazing down at her, his eyes gentle and full of love. He made love to her for the rest of the night, each time better then the last. And in the morning when she awoke he was gone, leaving her a note telling her he would be back in the afternoon. She floated around that day, hardly able to believe what had happened. Now they would be married. Now she and Darien would unite together forever and be happy. She was studying at her kitchen table when there was a knock at her door. She answered it, hoping it was Darien, but it was a woman with brown hair and bright green eyes, a beautiful face. She moved into the apartment without even asking for permission. She informed Serena that she was Darien's betrothed. She told her she knew that Darien had been delayed returning home by her and she wouldn't stand for it. They were to be married soon and he loved her, Lita, not some silly little girl. It was a favorite past time of Darien's to seduce young girls, then leave them without a backward glance. She showed Serena her engagement ring, a huge rock on her finger, even gave Serena an engraved invitation to the wedding, then told her she was also pregnant with his child. Serena was crying and couldn't believe what she was hearing. Lita left her then, her nose in the air, slamming out of the apartment. She wept until she had no more tears, but stopped herself then, becoming angry with him. How could he? How could he?!! She composed herself and decided she would leave California and go home to Maine, where she and her two best friends, Amy and Mina were from. She booked a flight and was packing her things when there was a knock at her door. Thinking it was Amy or Mina, she asnwered it only to find Darien standing there, a bouqet of roses in his hands. And so the fight began, her telling him she was leaving, that she was sick of him and didn't want him anymore. He was shocked and hurt and she almost believed him when he told her he loved her, but then she remembered Lita, and the wedding invitation in her pocket, and her anger surged. She told him she didn't care about him, then his anger finally came when she admitted to being in love with someone else. It was then that he told her he was engaged to someone else also, that he loved her, not Serena. She refused to let her hurt show, but instead turned her back on him and told him to get out of her apartment and to never bother her again. He did so immediately. Two months later Darien Taggart and Lita Simmons were married in an extravagent ceremony that was covered by every paparazzi imagenable. Darien was, after all, heir to a huge company and an important man. It was all over the news. Darien refused to touch Lita on there wedding night and she didn't mind at all. At the wedding she had met his cousin Ken, whom had been in Russia studying for the past year. He had left right before she and Darien had met, and Darien had never made any mention of him. Lita and Ken had fallen in love instantly, just as Serena and Darien had. She had a serious discussion with Darien concerning there marriage and they agreed to remain together for the sake of his grandfather. He would die soon and the marriage could then be dissolved. Neither had any idea he would live for another eight years. And during all this, Serena was delivered of a large, healthy baby girl nine months later, naming her Rene........ Stay tuned for Chapter 4, where they go back to the present again! haha |
