Author's Note:well I posted that if all of you wanted another ending I would write one. And you readers sure as hell kept your end of the bargain. I got reviews saying to write another ending and lots of E-Mails also. So, since I never want to disappointment my readers, here is another ending for the Darien of the alternate world. Keep in mind that many things are a bit different, but when it comes down to it, they are the same at heart. This fanfic might be long, its another story anyway. There won't be any battles in this one, any murder or anything like that like there was in the other chapters. This one will just explain what happened with Serena, where she went, and how she and Darien can fall in love all over again. Please don't be mad with some things I'm changing in here since I'm not making it out to be EXACTLY the same as the Serena and Darien we both know and how they rule Crystal Tokyo because they were destined to and whatever. In this fanfic these two have been through hell because in there world, everything was different and nothing turned out the way it was 'supposed to.'  But of course they will end up happy. I hope you like how I've written this. Complaints, praise, is always welcome. Enjoy!!

Lost Love
Alternate Epilogue
Crystal Tokyo
3036 A.C.

It had been six months since she had returned to her own world, but for him it might as well have been yesterday. He could still remember the scent of her hair, the softness of her skin, the sound of her laugh.
He was sitting at his desk, going over paperwork with Dimando standing across the room reading his stats on the other planets out loud. As soon as Serena had left, he had began doing everything he had promised her. He had struggled for his people's trust, to transform Crystal Tokyo into a place of happiness and hope, and assigned Dimando to be embassador for Earth. He had spoken with the Senshi and made sure they protected the city instead of threatening it. And on this day, everything was looking to be heading in the direction he was hoping for.
He was brooding over thoughts on her when he realized Dimando was speaking to him."Oh, what did you say?"
Dimando chose not to roll his eyes like he wanted too. He very well knew who Darien had been thinking about."I said, 'did you know Nemesis is now populated by other people?'"
"Oh really? Thats interesing."it actually wasn't, but he made an effort for Dimando.
"Yea, it is. Its good to know a planet that was filled with the Wiseman's hate is now filled with people hoping for a new life."he tapped the papers against his hand."And then there's this young woman who lives on the other side of earth. My people tell me she's exactly what I've been looking for."
"For a new girlfriend?"he asked, not bothering to hide his bitterness.
"No, for someone to help me with this job. She's worked in public relations, she's handled most of the other Vice Foreign Ministers, AND I hear she is pretty good looking."he had meant for it to make Darien laugh and was pleased when it worked.
     "You don't change."
"No, I don't."he grinned at his friend."I have to get going. I have tons of paperwork to go over and I have to get a hold of this girl. You can handle things from here, right?"
Darien waved him away."Go. Leave. I'll be fine."
Dimando nodded."I'll be by tomorrow then."
Dimando left the palace, but failed to mention that the real only reason he'd taken such an interest in this girl was because she was familiar, because she reminded him of a certain young woman who had saved his life months before, then left in the next breath. His people had told him she was good with public relations and she had managed to handle those stiff Vice Foreign Ministers and put a smile on there old faces. But they had also said she looked remarkably like the same girl who had left months before.
He knew Darien had loved that girl, Serena, with all his heart. He knew because he had at one point wanted to use her against him, but now he would never use anything against his friend. Darien had turned completely different; just, kind, easy going. He had become the King that Dimando had always hoped for. And he had also become his good friend.
So this was why he wanted to check the girl out for himself before word got to Darien.
He guessed he could get out to meet her in two days and see if she really was what he was told. He prayed she was. The world was at rights once again, but Darien's heart never would be without her.

He went to bed that night, couldn't stand sleeping in that bed because it brought to many memories back so instead he poured himself a brandy and stood on the balcony, sipping and brooding there, staring out into the distance. He had stood there on the last night she was to come back, staring out waiting for her to come back from her visit with the Senshi.
Her last visit, he had known. It was hard to explain how he had known it was her last night, how it had come to him. He had fallen asleep on his desk because he had gotten almost no sleep with her the night before, and during his sleep he had had a dream. It had begun with things as they were, as they had just happened. Trista's death, his own insanity, and then Serena's death, caused by him. But in the dream he had watched as she was with the Senshi, laughing and speaking with them after everything had happened, and a sharp twinge had told him it would be her last night there. He'd had a brief flash of seeing her standing in an airport, looking about and looking lost, out of place and wondering if she belonged there, if she had made the right choice. And just as she looked ready to turn and run, her name was called and....he had been running toward her. Well, it had been a much younger form of himself, but it had been HIM. And then they had embraced and he could feel the love, the relief washing through her. Then the two of them walking away.
He had woken up and known he had seen what was to happen when she did return to her own world. She would meet her own Darien and be happy with him...as she deserved to be.
He'd known she was to return and so had she. It had been his last night with her. The last time he had held her, touched her, stroked her, inhaled her scent.
He stopped the memories and walked back into his room, rubbing his eyes and trying to push the tears and heartache away. It had broken him that she had left, yet through it he had had to rise and rebuild trust and love into his people. He'd had no time to feel the deep sorrow, only when he was in the solitude of his rooms. The rooms they had shared.
With a sudden viciousness, he threw the glass with the brandy against the wall, shattering it there. He sank onto the floor slowly, his head in his hands, the tears falling freely from a heart that had known more lonliness and despair then anyone should have to endure in a lifetime.

Dimando took Amy with him because she was the only one of all those women that he trully trusted. Amara, Michelle, and Hotaru had gone to the Outer System, otherwise he would have asked them to come along too. The Inners, Lita, Raye, and Mina, who he considered gossips of the worst sort, he hadn't even bothered to ask. The women knew nothing better then men and giggling over the stories they had to tell.
It was on the other side of Earth where he had heard his information came from. She lived here in a large city populated by people who had once been from the center of Crystal Tokyo. She was a worker for the people. She was his one hope.
They landed, left the airport, and were approaching the building she worked in when Amy stopped, a hand to her heart."What is it?"Dimando asked, frowning at her.
"God. All this hope that it could be her. But thats next to impossible. I mean, Serena was born already. She died. That was the end of that. How could this girl be her?"she looked at him, all her hope and sadness in that one look.
He said what he had been telling himself for days now."Nothings impossible Amy. Another Serena came to us from an alternate world, how was that possible? And according to her, I died in the world she came from. But look at me, I'm alive and well."when she still seemed doubtful, he chucked her chin."Destiny's change kid. Perhaps the Serena of our world had a different one all along."
They went to her home, a huge estate located on the outskirts of the city among acres of land and rolling hills. He knocked on the front door, waited patiently for someone to answer.
A young maid opened the door."Yes?"she asked politely.
"Were here looking for Miss Justice."
There was a flicker in the maids eyes."Oh yes, she's been expecting you. Right this way."she closed the door after them, then led them into the parlor."She'll be right down."
Dimando stood surveying the room while Amy paced impatiently, her heels clicking on the marble floor. He watched her, mildly amused."Amy, relax. She'll come down."
"I know, but this....I know."she blew out a breath and stopped.
Thats when they heard someone coming down the stairs, slowly, someone else's heels clicking as they walked. Amy immediately started for the doors to see, but Dimando caught her arm and shook his head, even though he wanted to see if it was her or not also.
The time they waited was one of the longest waits he had ever endured in his life, even though it only took less then one minute. When she walked in, his gaze landed on her feet, slim ankles, then up her well toned and equally slim body, then stopped at her face.......
Black hair and blue eyes. And a lovely face, but not Serena's. But the woman's face was warm."Hello, I'm Selenity Justice."she walked forward, held out her hand.
He could see Amy was not even bothering to hide her disappointment, but he masked his own."I'm Dimando, Embassador for Earth. Its a pleasure to meet you, Miss Justice."
"Please, call me Selene. Everyone does."
They spoke over politics, Selene's job and her willingness to work as one of Dimando's team of Foreign Ministers. She shook her head at the offer and declined though, saying she preferred living at her home and among people she knew. Her eyes didn't meet his when she said this, instead looked out the window thoughtfully.
He sensed something strange going on, the way the maids eyes had flickered when they asked for Selene, the way Selene strayed from the subject of speaking of herself and always seemed to be glancing about, nervous even.
He cut the visit short, left her home and headed back to the Hotel they were to be staying at. Amy said she preferred to return home, but he wanted to return to the Estate and check it out one more time. Except he wanted to do it that night, without Amy or telling her he would be breaking and entering. He had a hunch and usually his hunches were right.
He went back, climbed up the wall and onto a balcony he assumed was for Selene's rooms. He broke the lock on her double doors, pushed them open gently and snuck into her room.
He spotted her, sleeping on her bed, her long black hair resting over her pillows, the covers just below her shoulder. He began approaching the bed to take a look at her when there was a sudden kick to his shins, so violent and unexpected, he fell to his knees. The blow to the midsection came next, then another to his head.
He was on the floor, trying to figure out what had happened, when he realized his attacker was about to hit him on the head again. Moving fast, he kicked them off there feet, then tackled them and pinned them to the ground. Quite easily, he held them down while he rubbed his head and glanced back at the bed.
Selene was sitting up, staring at them wide eyed and with terror."Don't hurt her, please. She-"
"Jessie!"the voice under him belonged to a woman, had him snapping his head back to look at the attacker with a quick frown. He reached down and removed the black mask, eyed bulging when her silvery white hair caught the light from the moon and shone brilliantly, her eyes snapping blue fire as she glared up at him. The face was the same, but with the years of womanhood on them now and the maturity of adulthood in her eyes. She was breathtaking.
"Get off me, you bastard! How dare you-"
"Selenity Justice, I presume?"he spoke over her, glad when he saw her quick shock."Now why are you having that young girl over there pretend to be you?"
"Get off me and I'll be glad to tell you."her sudden sweet tone didn't fool him one bit.
"I know your someone of importance. You feared I was here to take you in or maybe kill you."he knew the drill. He had come across it many times in the past months. There were people who still didn't trust Darien or the people who worked under him, and they were wary of him and the scouts.
The quick flash in her eyes was his answer."Thats not-"
"I can assure you I have no intention of killing you or doing anything otherwise."he climbed off her and backed away, hands held up."I suspected something was going on here earlier, thats all, so I came back to find out what it was."he motioned to her."And I did."
Selene stood, blowing her silvery hair out of her hair."Yea, I bet. Your one of the Kings personal assassins now. Your here because I'm a threat or he just doesn't like me or-"
"He's not like that anymore."Dimando could see this was going to be tougher then he had thought. It was her all right, but with fury and suspicion rolling through her toward all the people she had once loved."The King has changed. He wish's only for peace and to watch over all his subjects."
"How can anyone change that easily?"she shot back, glaring at him."One minute he ruled like a tyrant, then the next he was the just and noble King we had all wished for. How can that make sense but that he figured becoming soft and docile would make all of his people relax and trust him? That way he could move in and take over everything!"
Dimando almost rolled his eyes, but chose not too."Why don't you come with me and find out? Its obvious you can take care of yourself, after all."he rubbed his head for emphasis.
She smiled at that."Well....thats true enough. I've had years of martial arts training and self defense."she considered a moment and decided she had always wanted to meet this tyrant anyway."Ok fine. But if he tries anything, I'll kill him."
He knew she wasn't kidding either."All right, thats fair enough. We wish to return today so have your things ready and packed."he turned to climb back out the window.
"Aren't you going to use the front doors?"she asked him.
He grinned at her over his shoulder."Now why would I do that?"he laughed, then leaped over the balcony and disappeared from sight.
Selene stood considereing a moment, tapping her finger against her lips."Well now, he's smart. Smarter then I thought he would be."
"How do you think he knew that I wasn't you?"Jessie walked forward.
"I don't know. Thats one of the reasons I'm going with him. The King and his court have always intrigued me, even if they always were murderers."

Amy refused to believe what he had to say the next day. She was sick of hoping and wished only to return home, but then he told her she was meeting them at the airport. Amy didn't even blink, merely continued her breakfast.
They went to the airport, were waiting in the lobby when he saw her walking toward them. Her silvery hair was cascading down her back, her body encased in snub fitting black jeans and a black blouse, her eyes holding suspicion in them still and poised, as if ready for an attack any second. Amy turned and saw her too, and promptly dropped her purse and little carry on case.
"Its....its.....its...."she couldn't seem to form words as the woman approached them, tall and slender just as she was supposed to have been at that age. The same age as she and the scouts, she realized with shock. Twenty four years old.....but how could that be?
Selene stopped before them."I'm here."she looked at Amy and frowned at the look on her face."Whats wrong with her?"she asked Dimando."She looks like she's seen a ghost."
     "Oh my God-"
"This is Amy, one of the Kings guardians and head scientist for the King as well."he cut Amy off quickly, before she said to much."Amy, meet the real Selenity Justice."
Once they were on the airplane he had a chance to speak with Amy and explain what he had actually done during the night. She was shocked, as he had known she would be, but still grateful he had followed his instincts and gone back. She was extremely shocked to find it was Serena, as if she had never died, but different in character. She couldn't stop watching her for most of the flight.
Selene was also having a hard time comprehending why she had actually agreed to this. She had sworn never to go near that psychotic King or his court, and here she was, going willingly. There was something about them, she thought as she watched Dimando and Amy speak, the both of them so at ease with one another. Especially the woman Amy. Something familiar.....the way she moved her head, or smiled softly, or even her gentle eyes......something that jiggled at the edges of her memory, a memory she had been striving to get back for ten years now. Why was it that two of the Kings henchmen were the one's to reawaken it when nothing else had?
When they arrived at the Crystal Palace she could do nothing but stare at how beautiful it was, how large and goddamn familiar also. All of this was familiar, all of this was nagging at her and pushing into her mind. She refused to listen to any of it.
Taking a deep breath, she followed Dimando and Amy up the palace steps.
Dimando was relieved to hear that all of the Senshi were there except for Darien. He had wanted to tell them first before his friend.
He found them in the gardens, laughing and joking around as they always did. Amy walked forward and joined them, very happy with the news they brought. He turned to look at Selene and saw her staring at them with a frightening intensity, almost as if she was trying to remember.....
It struck him then that perhaps she could have the same memories of the Serena that had died there. Perhaps she WAS Serena.....no, that was impossible. But there had to be some possibility.
The women stopped laughing and speaking among one another to stare right back at Selene. Amy continued speaking in a hurried whisper to them, then stopped when, he thought, she was done explaining the situation to them.
Selene felt like she was in a trance. What else could describe that she couldn't stop staring at them? With some difficulty she tore her eyes from them, blinked a moment and remembered her manners, and walked forward to introduce herself.
Dimando watched them, watched how the Senshi were awed by her, but still happy, how Selene seemed so at ease with them. Maybe, just maybe.....
"Dimando, I didn't know you were back."Darien approached him from the side of the palace, grinning and glad to see his friend."That was a pretty quick trip. I thought you might enjoy this girl a little more."
"Oh, she's not for me. I brought her back for you to enjoy her."he grinned back at Darien, pleased he would witness this first meeting.
The grin faltered from Darien's handsome face."Me? Dimando, you know I don't-"
"Just look at her once, just once."Dimando swung an arm around his shoulders, began walking him toward where Selene stood laughing with the Senshi."Trust me, you'll like what you see."
"Dimando, its not that I'm not grateful to you always trying to find me girls, but I really don't want-"he halted when he saw her, standing with her back to them."Who's that?"his voice had turned sharp, his eyes narrowing into slits.
Selene felt a sudden chill run down her spine, a warning of something. She turned and her eyes met those of an extremely good looking man, who's eyes widened with shock when he saw her. The man took a step back, staggered, and was caught by Dimando quickly.
Her sixth sense told her this was the King,  who had instilled fear in the people's heart and ruled like an insane tyrant. She remembered hearing once, long ago, that his tyranical reign was caused from heartache, from the loss of a woman he had loved more then life itself. At the time she had laughed and said a man like him knew nothing of the emotion love.
Still, he was Earth's King. She walked forward, bowed formally to him."Your majesty."
Darien struggled to find his voice, struggled to make sense that he was seeing Serena again before him....except now she was years older and so much more beautiful. He strode forward and pulled her into his embrace, burying his face in her neck and holding her as if she was his life line.
"I knew you'd come back."he whispered brokenly, holding her and not even realizing she was stiff against him."I knew you would. I knew you loved me enough to come back and live with me, rule alongside me. God, I thought I would die-"
Dimando yanked him away from her and the Senshi rushed forward, putting a hand on Selene's arm to halt her."Darien, I need to explain something to you."
"What is there to explain? She came back!"none of them had seen him so happy in months."I knew she would! Serena-"
"Serena?!"Selene moved away from his hands, watched him with both confusion and anger. "And who is Serena?"
     Darien frowned."You.....whats wrong? Serena-"
"WHY do you keep calling me Serena? My name is Selene!"she thought he had been insane before, but now she knew he was."Selenity Justice, not Serena. Didn't Dimando tell you about me?"
Darien struggled through the joy and hope to actually hear what she was saying. He looked at Dimando and saw in the look there that he had much explaining to do for him.
Then the shock that this wasn't the Serena who had left him months before came through. This was.....someone else all together, but it WAS Serena. Or at least it looked like her.
"Come on Selene, we'll show you around the palace."Amy took her arm, pulling her away from them with the other Senshi following.
Darien watched her walk away, then turned to Dimando."What the hell is going on?"
"Whoa, calm down. First of all, thats not the Serena that left you a couple of months ago. She's....well, I'm not exactly sure who she is. Her name is Selenity Justice, she is the girl I was telling about before I left. Remember? The one I wanted to work with me on my team?"he watched this information sink in.
"Why does she look just like her?"he whispered, hope and confusion in his heart.
"I don't know. I have absolutely no idea. I found out about her from my people and I wanted to see for myself if she really did look like her. Now that I've found out and brought her back, I can't figure her out."he scratched his head."Who knows? Maybe she looks like Serena, but she's actually just some other girl who isn't anything like her at all. They could have two completely different characters for all we know."
"Your right. Yea, your right."Darien said it out loud, but inside he was already thinking of a way of testing her and seeing if perhaps it was some form of Serena. His glands had stirred at the sight of her, something only she had ever been able to do in such a way. But it was his heart he was trusting. His heart had jumped and gone into over time, and so much love had filled him he had known she was Serena, or Selene, or whoever, but she was the woman he loved.
"Dinner tonight."he said absently, wandering if he could find her before then to have a private word with her."Tell the Senshi I want them to go over the city before dinner tonight, and I want them all here for dinner also."
Dimando frowned."The cities fine Darien, why-"
"Go tell them."he quickly walked away to his rooms.
He headed in that direction at least, but side tracked as soon as he was out of Dimando's site. He walked down the halls, stopped when he heard Dimando speaking with the Senshi hurriedly, then a quick word to Selene, before they left her alone finally. He stepped out, had a moment to gather himself because she had her back to him.
She sensed him almost immediately and turned."Trying to sneak up on me and catch me unaware?"
He frowned at the venom in her voice."Not exactly, at least not in the way you mean. I-"
"The King of Earth."she cut off, her disdain a shield for a riot of emotions rolling through her. "The King who is so wise and just, so fair. No one seems to remember that only months ago he was our enemy, our tyrant. A man who ruled with a black heart, who murdered those who questioned him or those who threatened his power."
He expected hate from people, but the one person he could of chosen not to have it from was her."I'm not like that anymore."he said it quietly, carefully.
"Of course your not. Of course your good now. People can change so easily."she looked up into his eyes, deep into them, losing herself in a moment of shadowed memory and speaking without thinking."They can change over night, with a meeting, or with a death. They forget everything that the loved one believed in, what she fought for, what she hoped and dreamed for. And even in her soul she feels it, unrest and sadness that he could forget so easily. That he-"
He stared at her intently, reached forward and took her hands, snapping her out of her trance and back to the present, more earthly time."Oh my God....oh my God! You do remember then? You ARE her, aren't you?!"in his excitement he jerked her forward into his arms and kissed her roughly. Her body responded, as if its partner had been calling and found.
She struggled through the quick lust that was already taking over her body, pushed at him forcefully enough to jerk back and wipe her tingling mouth."I don't know what your talking about, but you'd better quit getting so close to me and grabbing me every chance you get!"she took a safe step back, narrowed her eyes when he stepped toward her.
"You...."he halted at her look, thought it better not to finish that statement."Ok, fine. Sorry. Your just really beautiful."he didn't notice how her eyebrows raised to her hairline at that."I'll see you tonight at dinner."formally, he bowed to her, then walked away.
She stood there a moment, wondering what it was about the man that triggered something inside her. Fact was, all of them triggered something inside her. When she'd first been informed that Dimando was coming to see her, she had been confused by his name because it was so familiar. Then of course her suspicion had kicked in and she had decided that the King was sending him to get rid of her or something.
And none of them were what she had been expecting. The Senshi, they were....funny. So carefree, so happy and full of life, nothing like the remote slaves she'd heard they once were. She'd only spoken with them moments, but she'd enjoyed herself immensely, almost as if she belonged with them, among them.
She shook herself, forced her thoughts back to the one's she'd originally had on them. It was a front, it had to be. They were just pretending. Yea, thats it.

She sat through dinner with them, on Darien's right hand side at the front. She was a bit distressed at the seating arrangements. Only the Kings wife, his queen, sat on his right side next to him.
She was glad she was seated next to Amy, falling into easy conversation with her. They commented over science and she noted how shocked Amy appeared when she understood what she was talking about. She had after all been studying and learning since she was fourteen years old, since she could remember. Why would Amy be surprised that she understood her?
After dinner she went out into the moonlit gardens with the Senshi, where three of them, Amara, Michelle, and Hotaru all sat and spoke quietly with one another. The Inners sat near them, but they spoke loudly, gossiped about men they were each seeing and how handsome they were. She felt more at ease with them, sitting and listening to them with interest.
It was when she heard a song, a soft song drifting on the wings of the wind, that she straightened, listening carefully and wondering what it was about the melody that washed through her and gave her such a feeling of love. Standing, she followed the sound.
She found Darien in the palace, standing over a balcony that overlooked the royal gardens. He held something in his hand as he watched the Senshi below. The romantic tune was coming from what he held in his hand, and she watched him lift it and clutch it tightly, his eyes shut tight a moment.
It was then that she remembered the story she'd once heard, that he had become evil because he had lost a woman he had loved. Perhaps the story had been true, she mused, watching him in his obvious misery. Perhaps he had loved someone like that at one point in his life.
Her hands tightened into fists at the thought and she wondered why she was suddenly angry, irrationally angry also. If he had loved someone else, far be it from her to get mad or even jealous.
The thought was so proposterous, she grunted with disapproval and had his head snapping back to look at her, the melody stopping when he closed his hand over whatever it was he had held.
She tried not to let him see how upset she was."That was a beautiful tune. Very romantic."
He stared at her, wondering, hoping."Yes, it is. Would you like to see it? The locket, I mean."
When he held out his hand to her and she saw a small, star shaped, golden locket, she felt something stir within her. Following that emotion, she reached out and picked it up into her own hand."Its gorgeous."she murmured, staring at it.
"Thank you. Its mine.....its been mine for over two thousand years."he smiled when she looked at him sharply.
"Two thousand years? Thats impossible."she looked down at the locket again, opened the lid and stared as stars and moons revolved, as they seemed to call out to her and the tune began again."Its so familiar...."
The locket had answered any doubts for him he'd had thus far. It had only ever played for him or Serena. And it was playing now, for her."How old are you Selene?"
"Twenty four."she answered absently, more intrigued with the locket and watching it.
     "And....where were you raised?"
"I don't know. I have no memories before I was fourteen."she didn't notice his look of shock."I woke up one day on Earth, on the other side of course, and I've been raising myself ever since."
He couldn't believe it. No memories before she was fourteen. That was how old Serena had been when she had died.
     "You have no...powers?"
She glanced at him, then back at the locket."Powers? You mean like you and the Senshi?"she shook her head."No. Why would I?"
He struggled to think of more questions, anything that would give him an answer."Any strange dreams?"
"Now that you mention it, yes."she glanced up toward the Moon, squinting her eyes and trying to remember as she cradled the locket."I used to dream about a crystal, a silver one. It was so beautiful....it was always the same too. The crystal was calling to me, like it had lost me or something, but there was nothing I could do. I didn't know where to look, how to find it. It frustrated me, I used to wake up so angry, but then the dream started fading away over time."she frowned in thought."Like the crystal was getting sad because I didn't even try to find it..."she let her voice fade in memory, remembering how desperate she had been to find it because she knew in finding it, she would find her past.
Shaking herself, she shrugged her shoulders."But oh well. Dreams are dreams, there not real."
When he just stared at her, she felt an uneasy feeling creep over her."Dreams are very important. They tell us what we can't see."
She laughed nervously, snapped the locket shut and stopped the haunting music."Yea, if you believe it that sort of thing. I'm led more by fact."
He raised a dark brow at her."Fact? So nothing of romance appeals to you?"
"I believe in romance, just not for myself."
He studied her, remembered something and decided to show her."Come with me."he turned and walked away.
Hesitating a moment, she followed him, down the palace halls, until they came to a room filled with portraits hung all along the walls. Walking in, she glanced about at all of them.
"This one."he stopped before one."I want you to look at this one."
She walked over and stared at it, seeing a man and woman standing together holding a locket and gazing at one another. She stared at it, her mind misting over with thoughts of a time long ago when she had posed for this portrait with Darien, annoying and extremely handsome Darien. She remembered feeling the excitement of knowing she would spend the afternoon with him, even when she covered her feelings with disdian toward him.
A memory, she thought with both joy and fear. She had just REMEBERED something."Why were you in my memory?"she whispered, turning to look at him.
     "Memory?"
"I just remembered something for the first time in my life and you were in it. Why?!"she was terrified, thrilled. Thrilled because she had recalled something, terrified because he had been in it.
"Perhaps I was in your past before you lost your memories."he suggested quietly.
"You? You?! How could you be in my past?"she shook her head."Thats not possible. I've been hearing of you for the past ten years, I've been hiding people who you wanted to kill-"she stopped, horrified.
He rocked back on his heels, amused at them both."Ah, I see now. So you were the one who hid all those people I wanted? Interesting."
"I only did it because they didn't deserve to die. You killed them only because you were bored and they were there."
He knew the truth of those words and it shamed him."That was a long time ago. I've changed since then."
She put her hands on her hips."And what made you change?"
You, he almost said."I had an awakening. I wasn't always evil, you know. There was a cause for it."
Just the opening she had been hoping for."And what cause was that? It must have been pretty bad for you to turn so tyranical."
     He nodded."It was."
When he didn't say anything more, she grew frustrated."Well then? What was it?"
"Are you sure you want to know?"
"I'm a big girl, I can handle it."
"All right."he was quiet."I lost someone I loved very much. She died protecting this world and I was too weak to help her. So after her death, I promised her and myself weakness would never get in my way again. And any evil would be eliminated."
She could see in his eyes the evil that had once consumed him, but now it was only a shadow of the past."So it was true then."
     He cocked his head."What was?"
"That it was over a woman."
"Yes, its true. She was special."he stared at her and tried figuring out why Serena had died in his arms one moment, only to be reborn on the other side of Earth, away from him and the Senshi, with no memories. Had it been a test for them?
"So was it her that made you realize your mistakes? Did she come back?"she waited tensely for his answer.
"Yes, it was her. But she only came back for a little while, then left again."and he remembered still, very vividly, how she'd faded away in his arms as they had lay in bed.
"I see."she could see the pain on his face and it touched something in her."I'm sorry."
"Its past now. I've found something else worth living for."he looked at her when he said this."And you Selene? What about you?"
She shook her head."No man, no love. I mean, there have been men in the past, but none worth mentioning. All boneheads."she noticed how intently he was watching her."What?"
"Don't you feel it?"he brought his hand up to touch her silvery hair, run it through and bring her head closer."Don't you feel the connection?"his lips whispered over hers, soft and tempting.
"I-I-"she felt it all right. And she felt more when he finally closed his lips over hers, when there tongues met and her sigh filled the air between them.
She was drowning in emotions, drowning in memories of something she couldn't quite see, but could feel spreading throughout her heart. Her arms came up to wrap around his neck, his arms gathering her close, tight against his hard body. She saw glimpses of moonlit walks, of parties and dancing in the magic of the night, with him. She saw her friends, the Senshi, always there to make her laugh, even when he turned evil and didn't remember her. And Rene, the child they would create together.
"Darien..."she moaned against his lips, tipping her head back when his lips kissed there way down her throat."Why do I remember you?"
"Because I loved you once and lost you, because you loved me and died telling me that."he whispered back."Because we've been destined for years to be together."
"What?"she heard his words, understood them, but didn't at the same time."What?"
"Selene, my beautiful Selene. Your the reason I turned evil."he couldn't stop kissing her, couldn't stop himself from gripping her soft body in his hands."Your the reason I turned good again. Where have you been for so long? Why did you leave me?"
"The crystal heard my plea."she spoke now without thinking."The crystal knew I wanted to live, but it would come with consequences. It had already saved my life once before with Beryl, mine and all of yours. So this time it would have to take in order to give back. And then it was up to me to find my way back."
He paused in his kissing, but continued."Go on."
"I didn't know where to look. It took my memories, it took any way I had of getting back to all of you."she was speaking now freely, fully aware of what she was saying and shocked at what she was revealing."And when you turned evil, it touched something inside me and made me sad, sad that you would forget everything we had always fought for. But a couple of months ago, after you became good again, I felt it in my heart. As if all of you were calling out to me."
"That was why she came here."he murmured against her hair, all of it falling into place."That was why Serena came from her world here, to heal me, all of us, so we could call out to you. So you could feel the good and love we had."
"I still don't remember everything."she whispered, holding onto him, afraid if she let go she would lose him again."I still don't know-"
He stopped her words with a kiss."We have all the time in the world now. Now that you've come back to me."
She looked up at him, her eyes clear and happy."Trista, Darien."
He flinched."I know. I'm sorry about that."
"No, no. She's alive. She's working as a head scientist in a lab on the other side of Earth, where I lived. She moved there one day six months ago."
He frowned at that, then smiled."Yes, that would be how it would happen. We'll have to go get her one of these days."
     She nodded."She'll remember too."
"Eventually."he touched her hair."So will you."
"Darien, I love you. I'm sorry I left you."
"Darling, I love you too. And don't worry,"he began kissing her again,"you can make it up to me....starting right now....."
