Author's Note:ok first of all this fanfic is going to be very long and very confusing. There will be many, MANY characters in this fanfic and almost all of them will play a large role that is important. This is a SailorMoon/Gundam Wing crossover. You'll notice that all the characters are intermingled together and there aren't any different sides, for example: the SailorMoon characters all stick together against the Gundam Wing characters. NOPE!!! Its NOT like that. This fanfic exists with Earth, the colonies, the Moon, the Inner Senshi's planets, and many, many more. Serena is not the princess of the Moon, she is the daughter of the Leader of the Moon, her mother. I know this sounds very extreme and strange, but you need to read this to understand the fanfic better. Reading this is NECESSARY!! This fanfic is about two basic things: love and war. Love that exists between Serena and Darien and the war that is brewing throughout the universe. There will be violence in this fanfic, be warned, and also there will be lemon in this fanfic. There will be extreme language also. Remember, this fanfic has to do with war, and where there is war, there is violence and sadness. So if you can't handle that then I suggest turning back right now and reading one of my other more peaceful fanfics. But if you can stomache it, then read on and you'll find a story worth every minute of your time. Now onto to the description of the story!

Description:this is where I tell you a little bit about what this fanfic is about, like a teaser trailor. So here goes: In a time of turmoil and tension, in a galaxy where two sides are divided by the thirst for war and the hope for peace, two peoples hearts join amid the tension and overcome obstacles to be together. But sadness and death enter there peaceful world and disrupt the love they have just found, tearing them apart(Serena and Darien, if your wondering!). And now, with the Universe at war, when there's no one left to trust, a lone woman must find the path she will take, and choose the man she will love.......

Warnings:holy shit, I don't think I've ever put in this much before a fanfic, but then I've never written a fanfic that will take so much of my time and so much of my thought. Anyway, warnings ok! Warnings are heavy violence and death, mild lemon(not too sure if thats mild yet, but just to warn you!), and some heavy language. This fanfic should only be read by people who are AT LEAST 17 and older. If you are under that age, but still feel you can read this, then go right ahead, I won't stop you. But you have been warned.

Disclaimer:Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing do not in any way belong to me, nor do these characters, but I do take ownership of this fanfic and all of the concepts and ideas that went into it. So don't go stealing my ideas!! On to the fanfic now!!!

The Darkness In the Night

Chapter 1: A Friendship of Brothers, A Love Beyond Time
The Planet Earth
2035 A.C.

The sunset was always a wonder to watch. The colors, the splashes, the magic of the evening, the mystery in the moment of a whisper. There was a feeling in one's heart when it was going, went it was sinking into the horizon. It was like watching a life end, only to begin again.
Darien Templeton knew he would never tire of watching the sunset from the cliffs overlooking the Earth palace, where he lived. He had climbed up there every day he could in his eleven years, scrambled up those rocks to watch the magic of the moment. It was a time when he could sit and relax, when he could forget his worries of being the son of the Leader of the planet Earth, the second son that is. His older brother was the leader now, Treize Templeton had taken over on there fathers death one year before when he was only sixteen, but he had been doing well, from what Darien heard. Very well for one his age.
Of course he had been going to those cliffs for years, but not alone. It was something he shared with only one person, and probably would never find anyone else worthy enough to share it with. Not even his brother Treize.
Turning his dark head, he narrowed his eyes against the glare of the disappearing sun to see his best friend also sitting, legs dangling over the cliffs, eyes squinted against the sun. Zechs Marquise, Darien's best friend, had shared this moment with him from the first, when the wonder of it had filled him and left him nearly speechless. Zechs understood why Darien loved watching the sunset so much and sometimes complained of climbing those sharp rocks, but always went with him. Zechs loved pointing out that it was the 'girlie, romantic side of him.' Darien didn't bother arguing.
"Your gonna stick to your end of the bargain, right?"Zechs asked, turning to eye him from clear blue eyes."Your gonna take me up and show me some more manuevers after this?"
Nothing ever comes cheap, Darien thought."Yea, I told you I would. I don't know why you want me too, you got it down good, better then I thought."
"I'll believe that when I'm better then you."Zechs flashed him a grin, picked up a blade of grass next to him and put it between his teeth."And someday I sure as hell will be."
"Keep dreaming."Darien sneered back good naturedly.
One thing the two boys had in common was there love of flying. Darien's family was rich and had SpaceFighters locked in warehouses near the palace, so most of his life Darien had been learning how to fly, how to fight from his older brother and other fellow pilots of Earth. At eleven he was well on his way to becoming the best pilot in the galaxy, according to Treize he was. Treize was very shocked to find his brother had a natural instinct when it came to being in the air.
And every chance he could, Darien had been up there showing Zechs how to fly also. Zechs was nearly as good as Darien, but not close enough. Zechs always bragged he would be better one day, but he knew deep in his heart that Darien was the best there was and ever would be.
"Do you think Nemesis will ever attack us?"Zechs asked, wondering out loud as he often did.
Darien thought of the other side of the universe, Nemesis, and how much conflicts there side had with them."Lets hope not."
"But then we'd go to war and we'd be able to fly, to show everyone how really good we are." Zechs' eyes were bright as he spoke, bright with the excitement and the thrill of it.
"Yea, we'd be able to show off our skills, thats true, but then we'd be at war. Think about it Zechs, at WAR. Nothing would be the same. This sunset,"Darien motioned to the disappearing sun with his hand,"this sunset wouldn't be the same. It would be stained, tainted with everything we've done and everything thats going on around us. Nothing would be the same."
Zechs listened to his friend and heard the truth in his words. Darien had been young and carefree a year before, but ever since his fathers death he had grown rapidly in body and most of all, in mind.
"Yea, I guess so."Zechs climbed to his feet, began kicking dirt and rocks."But it would be something."
Darien saw someone walking toward them, beyond the cliffs at the bottom of them. He looked closer and realized it was Zechs father, and from the way he walked, he was angry.
"Zechs."the tone of Dariens voice had Zechs turning and looking down the cliffs, paling at the sight of his angry father.
"Oh no."he backed up a step and could feel the welts on his back tightening, welts his father had given him two nights before in his anger."Oh God."
"Go."Darien jumped to his feet."Go, I'll hold him off. Zechs, GO!"
Zechs backed up again, then looked at his best friend, no, his brother, with gratitude. "Thanks."he turned and ran, disappearing around the bend of the cliffs.
It took only minutes for Zechs' father to be up the cliffs and stalking toward Darien. Darien was glad he had sent Zechs off on time. His father was a big man, over six feet with big shoulders and thick arms. His hands were also strong and as he neared, Darien could see they were scraped and scabbed. Probably from hitting Zechs, Darien thought with a surge of anger.
"Where is he?"he lashed out, his eyes blood shot, his voice just a bit slurred. He had been drinking again."Where is the little bastard?"
"Not here. And don't you try going and looking for him just so you can knock him up some more."Darien snapped back, legs apart, fists ready to fight a man three times his size.
The older mans eyes were amused at how his sons best friend was standing up to him. He knew he could get into huge trouble if he touched this boy, but at the moment the liquor was getting the better of him and he couldn't seem to remember that. He took a step toward him, surprised when the boy didn't even flinch.
"So you think you can take me then?"he laughed."Come on then boy, try it."
Darien snarled and was getting ready to charge when the older man suddenly lashed out, hitting him across the face with his fist. He flew back and had to grab the ground with his hand, digging his fingers in when he would have gone skidding over the edge of the cliff. His head exploded with pain and his jaw felt like someone had slammed a sledge hammer into it. He brought his hand up and felt blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
The older man took a step forward and would have hit him again, but a sudden howl filled the air and they both turned to see Zechs charging forward. His fathers eyes filled with shock just before Zechs plowed head first into his fathers stomache, knocking him back. He fell on his back and immediately curled into a ball, clutching his stomache and looking as if he would lose his lunch.
Zechs' chest was heaving, his eyes wild and full of awe and fear. He stood there staring down at his father until he noticed Darien attempting to stand. He ran to his friends side and helped him up, horrified at the sight of the blood on his lip.
"He hit you."Zechs whispered with terror in his voice. Treize was very protective of his younger brother and didn't allow anyone to touch him in any type of violent way. Everyone on Earth knew not to hit Darien, because if they did, then they would die."Treize-"
"Won't know."Darien wiped the blood, stood on his own now. He stared down at Zechs' father with disgust. Even though Zechs was afraid of his father, he was all he had and he wouldn't go running to Treize with a fresh wound just so that he could have the man killed."I won't tell him. He'll never know."he couldn't believe he was protecting a man who beat young children while he was drunk just for the hell of it.
"Darien.....thank you."Zechs looked at his father, then walked to him and helped him stand. He had heard there exchange and was glad that Darien wouldn't be telling his older brother."Lets go Dad."
Without saying a word, the older man turned and walked away, Zechs trailing along behind him. Darien watched them go, then turned to look down the cliffs and watch them walk farther and farther away, back to Zechs' small home that he knew was located in one of the worst areas on Earth.
Standing there, watching his best friend disappear into the distance, Darien didn't even notice when the sun finally slipped away and left the land pitched in darkness.

2055 A.C.
20 Years Later
The Planet Earth

The sky was clear without a cloud, the weather was warm and the wind soft as it blew across the open plains surrounding the airfield near the main palace. A group of men stood watching the sky, there hands shielding there eyes against the blinding sun. Another man stalked toward them, every muscle in his body taut with anger, his face drawn into a deep scowl. When the men noticed him they immediately came to attention, but he waved them away, squinting against the sun to watch what they had been watching.
Two Spacefighters flew through the air, manuevering through dangerous stunts, circling each other as if they were daring the other to do something dangerous. And just as the men began to relax, they plummetted toward Earth, then swerved back up and directly toward each other, flying at high speed. The men began to hoot and shout to them, excited as they always were when watching these two fly together. And just as they neared one another, they veered off rapidly and sharply, flying back around the come to a landing on the airfield. The men immediately sobered when they noticed how angry the man they had saluted was.
As soon as they stepped foot on the ground, he was there, shouting at the darker one.”Darien, what the hell are you going?”
He jumped down from the Spacefighter, grinning already as he removed his helmet.”Pretty good flying, don’t you think?”
“I’ve told you to stop pulling stunts like that!”the man turned on the other lighter pilot, shaking with his fury.”And you! Zechs, I’ve told you to keep an eye on him and keep him out of trouble!”
Zechs removed his own helmet, his white blonde hair immediately touched by the sun, his clear blue eyes amused.”Come on, I can’t control him. And when we start flying together, I can’t help but follow his lead.”
“Calm down Treize, I can handle myself.”Dariens smile was cocky and smug, his tone just as bad.”Jealous cause I’m a better pilot?”he handed his helmet and gear to a waiting boy, turning and walking back to the main hanger.
Treize, leader of Earth and well known diplomat, followed his younger brother.”I’m not jealous, goddamnit Darien. You could get yourself killed!”
“I doubt it.”Darien grabbed a bottle of water from the refridgerator in the office, turning and tossing one to Zechs. He took a deep swallow as Treize paced.
“You think your invincible. You think nothing can touch you.”Treize turned to eye his brother and sighed, rolling his eyes when Darien merely stared at him.”Forget it. Why do I even try?”
“Beats me, its a waste of both our time.”Darien dusted his hands off on his pants, walked out of the building to go to his car parked nearby.”See you at home Treize.”
Treize followed him.”Wait. I need to talk to both of you. Its important. Thats why I came down to the airfield. I want you both back at the palace right now. This is urgent.”
Darien raised an eyebrow at the tone of his brothers voice.”All right, we’ll meet you there.”
As soon as Treize was gone, Zechs turned on Darien."What do you think he wants?"
"I don't know, but I'm curious to find out."Darien had a pretty good idea of what it was. The past few months things had been very tense between Nemesis, the other side of the universe, and Elysium, there side of the universe. He'd heard Zechs having heated discussions with his embassadors, but mostly with Relena Valentine, his Vice Foreign Minister and second in command.
They arrived at the palace and went to Treize's study, where he stood waiting for them, his face grim."Good. I'm glad you guys came straight here."
Darien sat at one of the chairs, tipping back to cross his legs at the ankle on top of Treize's desk."So whats all this about?"
"We have our suspicions of the Colonies. Relena thinks somethings going on. She just got back from visiting over there and she says she has a bad feeling about them."
"Relena is always too paranoid."Darien studied his nails.
"I'm glad you think so Darien."Relena's tone was sarcastic as she came into the room."But this isn't something to laugh at."
"I'm not laughing, am I?"when she turned to him, he gave her a cocky grin."Get on with it Treize."
"Nemesis has never hid there feelings from us. We've always known how much they love war, how much they want to fight. Its in there natures, its in there blood."he ran his hand through his hair, frustrated."The only hope we have out there is the leader of the Colonies. He's a good man with a kind heart and a peace loving man as well. But....he won't live forever."
"Its only a matter of time before something happens and he passes away."Relena continued. "We know that as soon as he dies, a war will break out. I only have so much influence, but my words won't stop bullets from flying or people from dying. Words cannot stop whats inside of us." she sighed heavily, her eyes shadowing with grief."Its in our nature to fight each other."
"So we've established that there will be a war one day."Darien and Zechs exchanged looks. "What do you want from us?"
"I need to train men. Our best defense from an immediate attack is our Spacefighters, and lets be honest here. You two are the best of the best. Especially you Darien."he was quiet a moment. "I want the two of you training pilots from now on. We need every man we can get. This is a task I need the two of you to do. Its important."
Darien knew how important it was to Treize to keep peace throughout the universe and he also knew that he would avoid going into war as much as possible, so he knew that he was asking them to do this because the situation was very, very grave.
He stood, held out his hand to his older brother."I'll do it."
Zechs immediately stood also."I will too."
Treize nodded, shook each of there hands."I knew I could count on the two of you."
Moments later Zechs said he was going to go speak with the men and inform them of what was going on. Darien told him he would catch up in a moment so he could stay and have a word with Treize and Relena.
"What is it Darien?"Treize was already sitting at his desk, going through paperwork, Relena leaning over him just as absorbed.
"I want to know who could be the most likely to be attacked by Nemesis."
Relena looked up at him sharply."Why?"
He rolled his eyes."Can't you, for once, just answer a question?"
She studied him and Treize spoke, not even looking up."Trying to be heroic?"
     "Damn right."
Relena laughed, shook her head."I should have known. All right Dar, I'll tell you."she was quiet a moment."I think that the first place they'd want to attack would be the Moon."
     He frowned."The Moon? Why there?"
"Its not the center of the universe, its not the most powerful planet like we are. Its....its the light of hope. Attacking the Moon would be like attacking our hearts."she explained quietly.
Darien stared at her, then looked at his brother."And what do you think?"
Treize stopped and looked up, considering."Relena could be right, but then she could be wrong. The Moon is important, but is it what they want? And how do we know they would attack only one planet? What if they attack more? There's a lot of questions we could ask ourselves."he rubbed his chin."I think they'd go for what we least likely expect."
He thought about it, thought of Zechs, and made a decision."I want you to send me to the Moon. It makes sense that they'd attack there. Its like Relena said, its our hope. Thats what they'd want to take from us. And there going to need a defense if there is an attack. I'll train pilots out there."
Treize shot to his feet."You want to go to the Moon? Darien, you belong here. I don't think-"
"Its where I want to go. Treize, you've got everything going fine here. I'm not needed. I'm needed where there's a threat."
"You just want to go looking for fame and glory."
His grin was quick."And whats wrong with that?"
"Everything."Treize shook his head."Fine, I can't stop you. You always were too wild for me to control. Go, but you better be careful."
"There's just one thing I want to ask you to do for me."
     "What is it?"
"Keep Zechs here. I don't want him near where there could be danger."
Treize nodded."All right. He stays, you go."
"Thanks."nodding to them, he turned and left his study.
He was walking down the halls when Relena caught up with him, her golden blonde hair flying behind her, her blue eyes bright, her cheeks flushed."Darien, I'm glad your going out there. They need someone like you to help them."
He turned to her, noted how beautiful she looked, all flushed and pink."Lookin good Relena."
Immediate anger took over her features."Oh! Why do you always have to do that?!"
     "Do what?"he asked innocently.
"It would have worked between us, it would have, if you hadn't been so damn.....indifferent! You never cared about me, never REALLY cared. Your too.....independent. Too cocky."
     "And?"
"See! Do you see why it fell apart?!"
"Sugar, I knew it wouldn't work from the moment I made a move on you."he felt a bit guilty when her face fell."Don't do that, you never cared about me either. Its just your ego thats hurt."
She stared at him, then laughed."You ARE a bastard! You know me too well. Ok, fine."
"We done here? I need to go talk to Zechs."
"Thats another reason I knew it wasn't going to work. You always put Zechs before me, hell! You put him before even Treize!"she smiled at him."Go on. I'm done ranting."
"I can tell you one thing. You were the best I ever had."at her look of shock, he laughed out loud and walked away.
He found Zechs in front of the palace, leaning against his car and waiting for him."Hey."
Zechs frowned at him."What took you?"
"I had a quickie with Relena."when Zechs shook his head, he snickered."I'm kidding. Treize and Relena wanted to ask me to do them a favor."
     "Whats that?"
"There sending me out to the Moon."at Zechs questioning look, he continued."They need more pilots trained out there and they want me to go. You can handle things fine here. And besides, I'm the better pilot, they want me over you."
Zechs ignored him."Is that the only reason?"
Darien knew if he told him the truth, Zechs would follow. So he plastered a good natured smile on his face."Course it is. Besides, I haven't been out there in over....what is it? Twenty two years. Last time I was there was when the daughter of the leader of the Moon had been born. It'll be good to see how the kid looks now, out of diapers."
Zechs relaxed at his friends joking."Yea, I bet she's a real looker, like her mom."
"Doubt it. There isn't anyone who looks better then Relena. Bossy and demanding she may be, but she's one hot woman."Darien jumped into the car, waited while Zechs rounded the hood to the drivers side."I bet she's got wide hips, a flat nose, and crooked teeth."
Zechs put on his sunglasses, turned and grinned at his best friend, his brother."And I'll just bet that your going to be choking on those words soon enough."

It took only days for the arrangements to be made between the Earth and the Moon and soon Darien was standing at the Spaceport, where a shuttle waited to take him to the Moon. He had a bag flung over his shoulder as he stared up at the blue sky for a moment, then turned to the three people who had come to see him off.
Treize shook his hand."You take care of yourself."
Darien nodded, then turned to Relena, amused when she glared at him."Whats wrong sugar?"
She threw herself into his arms and hugged him hard, muttering so only the two of them could hear,"Fame and glory. Thats what your looking for you bastard.....but I do hope you find it."
Touched, he kissed her cheek."Thanks."he stepped away to look at Zechs, and without a word, both of them walked away from the other two to slowly approach the shuttle."You train those pilots well. Don't freeze when your up there, don't let them either."
"I know Darien, I know."Zechs stopped, his hands tucked into his back pockets."You watch yourself when your out there."
"Come on, its me. I know how to handle people and even better, pilots."because Zechs was still frowning, he added,"Who knows? Maybe I'll find myself a pretty little moon girl and have a hot affair."
Zechs' grin was quick and wicked."And she'll wrap you around her little finger too."
"I doubt that."they laughed a moment, then stopped, looking at each other with the bond of brothers and the friendship that had come from years of laughter and trust."I'll see you Zechs."
"Just make sure to be careful."there hug was long and hard. Darien stepped back to give Zechs a friendly punch in the stomache before turning and boarding the shuttle.
As the shuttle took off, Zechs stepped back next to Relena and Treize, who watched it leave then turned to go. And as they walked away, he remained there, still watching it go until it was a tiny speck in the sky, wondering why he couldn't shake this uneasy feeling he had.

Darien arrived on the Moon hours later, the shuttle landing safely and the doors opening as he picked up his bag and flung it over his shoulder, stepped out onto the platform. A sharp wind blew threw his dark hair, his eyes narrowed against the wind and the sun, as he straightened and walked down the platform to meet with the waiting leader of the colonies, a tall beautiful woman.
Her smile was kind."Hello Darien. I'm glad you decided to come and help us. Serenity Hart." she held out her hand and he took it.
"No need for introductions, I'd remember you anywhere. You look great, Mrs. Hart."he followed her when she began walking away, toward a car that awaited them.
"Thank you Darien, but I'm afraid these days its my daughter young men are much more interested in. And to tell you the truth, it frustrates me sometimes how independent she can be."
"She's young. Young people like to live there life to the fullest."he bent into the stretch limo, shutting the door behind him then turning back to her.
"Yes, your right. And from what Treize tells me, you still live like a wild child."she laughed softly when he grinned."How old are you these days Darien?"
"Thirty one Mrs. Hart, but still feeling good. It'll be a while yet until I'm settled down with any woman."he had long considered that perhaps if he didn't find someone soon, he would ask Relena to marry him. They got along well, he didn't expect much from her and she didn't expect much from him. It would be a good arrangement.
"I have a feeling you'll be quite amazed soon enough."
He didn't reply to that, instead looked out the window and watched the scenary they passed, memories of a soft, beautiful planet coming back to him from his childhood. He had only come her twice as a child and each time the hope and light of the planet had captivated him. It was like a pearl, so rare and so special, something that when you found you didn't want to let go of.
It would be the perfect target for Nemesis to take hope from them.
They arrived at the palace and he merely left his bag in the room they showed him too, then excused himself to go down to the airfield, located near the back of the palace. He was inside the main hanger, observing the Spacefighters, when he caught a shadow out of the corner of his eye. It was dark, but not so dark that he couldn't see the little man scamper off to hide.
A thief, he thought with digust. They had plenty of them on Earth, always trying to come in and steal parts so they could sell them for money. Face set, he strode around the fighters and leaping, tackled the little man to the floor.
Even as the man struggled fiercely beneathe him, he held them down easily."A thief, I should have known. Guys like you deserve to go to jail, where the rest of your kind belong."when the mans struggles became even fiercer, he chuckled."Don't even try doing anything funny or I'll pop you one."
The man almost brought his fist up and hit him, but he was quick and moved aside, but it didn't mean he wasn't angry. He could feel his temper rising."Come on, I'm taking you in."he reached around the pull him up and his hand brushed across something soft and round, right where the mans flat chest should have been. Frowning, he reached out and was amazed to cup a round, plush breast in his hand. His shock doubled when the person let out a female squeek.
"Let me go!"her voice was full of rage and he released her, watching as the hood of her cloak fell away and yards of silvery hair cascaded out, the light from the Moon catching it and making it glow in the dark."Idiot bastard, are all Earth men as stupid as you?!"
He could only blink when she turned a face so gorgeous and perfect on him he nearly swallowed his tongue."I...ah....I....,"
She let out a huff, running her hand through that glorious hair."And I'm not a thief. I was just curious to see this pilot everyone's been talking about so much lately."her blue eyes looked him up and down."You ARE the pilot, aren't you?"
Snapping his gaping mouth shut, he managed a nod.
"Well then, Treize's younger brother, Darien Templeton. I'm Serena Hart."formally and with much grace, she held out her hand to shake.
He did what he thought someone as beautiful as her deserved. He took her hand, bent on one knee, and kissed it reverantly.
When he looked up he could see she was a bit shocked, but more amused."Well....do you tackle all women, then bend on one knee and kiss there hand the next?"
"No."he found his voice finally and suffered a minor humiliation that she had rendered him speechless for a few moments. She was the first woman who had ever managed to do that."So who are you then, if not a thief?"
She walked past him, removing her cloak as she walked. When he saw the well toned, tight little body she had under his eyes bugged."Come on Darien, I can't be distracting you that much. Serena HART, you just met my mom earlier."she looked at him over her shoulder and her smile was sly.
He almost hit his head with his hand, but stopped himself on time when she kept looking at him with that smile. It was one thing to be speechless, but it was another to not even be listening to what she was saying because he was too busy drooling over her looks.
"Oh ya....I did."he couldn't even think of a better answer."Well then, your the kid I last saw in diapers."and that was when he remembered Zechs' words to him about her. Flat nose and wide hips my ass, he thought as he admired her.
"Diapers, yes. I grew out of those some time ago."she stopped looking at him to look at the Spacefighters they had in the warehouse."And you, I hear your a genius with those."
He tucked his hands into his pockets, walked over to stand next to her and look up at the fighters also."I'm not going to deny it."
"No, you wouldn't."she turned fully toward him, her eyes roaming up and down his large, built body."Men like you know what there about, don't they, Darien?"
He looked at her also, a slow smile coming to his lips. Well hell, she was flirting with him."We have a pretty good idea."
"Yes....."she stepped close to him, close, not close enough. She let her delicate hand come up to touch his chest, move down his strong arm, causing his eyes to narrow."And women like me, we try and try so hard to get your attention."her lips were close to his.
He couldn't seem to breathe."Sugar, you got all mine."
Her laugh was quick and unexpected, as was her sudden retreat."Good. Keep your pants on flyboy, it isn't that easy to get me all flustered and under your spell."still laughing, she walked out of the warehouse and left him alone.
He stood there for exactly five minutes before finally letting out his pent up breath, his teeth gritted, his hands made into fists. He didn't think he'd ever felt such raging desire pumping through him before in his life. The girl, no. Woman, Serena, had made him as hard as a rock with just one look, and more frustrated then he'd ever been, even as a randy fifteen year old boy.
Calming himself, he walked out of the warehouse and back up to the palace, striding through the entrance hall, his muscles taut with anger and a wounded ego. And the fact that he headed to bed after a long day didn't help, because the bed that awaited him was empty and cold.

The next morning he was up at dawn and at the airfield, shouting orders to pilots and telling them how he wanted things done. No bullshit, no messing around, unless he ordered it. They would be training to protect there planet, he said, and he was there to make sure they did it right.
They followed his directions and every move, took notes where they had too, and didn't even stop for an afternoon lunch because he didn't think they deserved it. He was harsh, he knew, but he had trained other pilots and coming down hard on them was the only way sometimes.
They had just landed and jumped down from the fighters when he noticed his men all looking at something over his shoulder. He turned and blinked against the sun, spotting Serena walking toward them, wearing a bright, red dress that clung to her every curve. Her long, silvery hair blew in the wind behind her, the sun at her back, creating a magnificent scene that he was sure she wasn't even aware of.
He waited until she was standing before him."And to what do I owe this visit?"
"I saw you up there. Your a great pilot."she smiled at him when he looked at her with surprise. "I thought you knew how good you were, it shouldn't be a shock what I'm saying."
"Your right, but I can't help being surprised anyway. And thanks."he turned to his men and told them they could go on there lunch now. He didn't notice how all of them gave one another looks as they left."So Serena, you got a boyfriend?"he was better this time, not so tongue tied that he couldn't ask her a few questions that had burned his mind most of last night.
"No, better than that."she laughed when he stared at her."I'm single."
The tension flowed out of him."Good to hear. So am I."he wiggled his brows at her."Pretty convenient, don't you think?"
"I'll let you know when it is."she folded her hands before her."I came to invite you to lunch."
"Are you asking me out sugar?"he couldn't help it. He was delighted.
She cocked her head, studied him with a small smile."Maybe. Now, come on. I know this great place, the food is just heaven."she turned and walked away.
He watched her walk from behind for a moment, letting out a low whistle. Then, with a huge grin, he followed her.

Zechs went home that night after a hard day of training, going into the little apartment he had near the palace. The apartment was cold and lonely, as it usually was. The only time it didn't seem to quiet was when Darien filled it, his loud manner and cocky attitude easily taking over the silence.
His phone began to ring, his digital, t.v. on screen phone that he had connected to his tv. He answered it, relieved when he saw Darien on the other side.
"Hey Zechs, hows it going?"there was the same concieted tone, the same lop sided grin that made women drool and sigh.
"Good, I'm pretty tired though. These pilots, you'd think they'd know the difference between-" he halted, rubbed his hands over his eyes."Never mind. How is it out there?"
"The leader of the planet, Serenity Hart, she's just as beautiful as you said she'd be."
Zechs grinned, grabbed a beer from his fridge, and went and sat on his couch to face Darien. "Yea, I knew I'd be right. And what else am I right about?"
"Bastard, you knew about Serena, didn't you?"
He raised his brows as he took a deep drink from his beer."Serena? The leaders daughter? I've never seen the girl."he continued to drink."But I heard stories."
"She's gorgeous Zechs."when he looked at Darien, he was surprised to see a dreamy look on his face, a look he'd never seen his friend wear."She's perfect, I mean PERFECT. Its almost unbelievable."he stood, began to pace and motion with his hands as he spoke."She has this silver hair, tons of it, and this beautiful face. Her eyes...oohh, her eyes are amazing and her body....shit man, you gotta come out here and see her."he halted and turned back to Zechs, pointing his finger and suddenly looking angry."No way! Forget it! You stay out there, there's no way I'm letting you mess this up and take her from me!"
Zechs held up his hands."Hey, no worry there. I've got enough pilots to train to last me another year."but he was intrigued that his friend had just met this girl and was already so....obsessed. "Hey Dar."
     "What?"
     "You think this one's different?"
His shock increased when he realized that instead of laughing off his question, he was considering it."I don't know.....maybe."
"Now I'm impressed. Maybe I will make time to go out there and meet her-"he laughed at Darien's look of warning,"in another couple of months."
Darien relaxed."Yea, I'm acting like an idiot. She came down to the airfield today and asked me to lunch. Normally, a woman as beautiful as her, all I think about is how fast I can get her into bed. Now don't get me wrong, I do still have that in mind, but I was more....entertained with her. I had fun with her. She's funny, she's interesting, she's gorgeous. She's...she's...."he stopped and rubbed the back of his neck with his hand, laughing softly."She's not what I expected, put it that way."
"Sounds like you've found THE girl."Zechs commented, eyeing his friend.
"I don't want to jump ahead of myself. There's still that she might not feel the same way."he stopped, suddenly horrified as the thought sunk in."Oh God. What if she doesn't? What if I'm the only one feeling this? What if-"
Zechs laughed so loud Darien turned red with embaressment."I think you need to get a grip."
"No kidding."he ran his hand through his hair, shook his head."She's just....special......anyway! I gotta get going, I have a long day ahead of me. You take care Zechs."
"You too."when the connection broke, Zechs went into his kitchen and took out a tv dinner, putting it in his microwave and letting his mind wander back to Darien and everything he had said. If this girl managed to snag him, Zechs would be impressed.
He rubbed his eyes, but through the drowsiness he was happy for Darien. Very happy. Even though Darien had always said to be happy with different women, Zechs had known that deep down he hoped to someday find a woman who could make him happy for the rest of his life. Just like he himself hoped for that.
Someday,  he thought wistfully, someday he would find her.

Three Months Later
The Moon

"I'm impressed with you pilots, I really am. Three months and you've all turned out to be the best I've ever trained."Darien spoke with his pilots outside on the airfield, hands folded behind his back, sunglasses on to shield his eyes against the blaring heat from the sun. He wore a white wife beater and black trouser, defining his broad shoulders and rippling muscles."Your all fighter pilots as far as I'm concerned."when they let out a chear at this, he grinned, telling them there were kegs in the warehouse waiting for them, as well as lots of food and pretty girls. When they ran off, he turned back to Serena, who sat on the hood of his car wearing a tight summer dress that left her shoulders bare, her hair hanging down her back, her clear blue eyes bright.
He made his way over to her."Hi sugar, how about you give a good looking guy a kiss?"he caged her there on the hood, his hands coming up to grip her hips.
She smiled and framed his face between her hands."I guess I'll give you a kiss since all the good looking one's went into the warehouse."she laughed at his pouting look and leaned in, kissing him softly, pushing at him when his grip tightened and he tried hauling her closer."Calm down, this isn't the place."
"Serena, Serena, Serena....."he chanted her name, his lips whispering over her face."God, I love you so much."
"I know."she calmed him by placing her lips over his, leaving them there until she felt his soften beneathe hers."I love you too."
He held her close."This is the first time I've ever felt anything like this. I don't ever want to lose this....or you."and just the thought terrified him.
"You won't, don't worry so much."
He held on tight another moment, then leaned back and lightened the mood with a cocky grin. "Yea, your right. You could never leave me."
She shook her head."We got here because I let it get here. When are you going to understand that?"
He laughed."I know, I know. Listen, Zechs is coming to visit again. I fast talked him into it. After this visit he won't be able to come again for months. Treize's has gotten him another new set of pilots to train."
"It'll be good to see him again. And Relena? Is she coming this time?"
He shook his head."How my ex and my girl became such fast friends, I'll never understand, but no, she can't make it. She's heading out to the colonies."
"Oh."her face fell and he tickled her to make her smile and laugh."Stop!"
"You've got me and I'm not leaving anytime soon."he lifted her above his head, then bent her down to kiss her again."And your going to marry me right?"
"If I feel like it."she cupped his cheek in her hand, gazed at him and wondered about the future."And lets both hope that this war never comes. That way our world will be safe."
"As long as your safe and were together, nothing could come between us."
She smiled against his lips."Your right."
     But someday, something would.
