Mamoru and Ami have something in common- their wish to become doctors- and from what you can hear about the 'Net, they're pretty good friends. He is one of the people she admires because he is in med school (SuperS) and he works hard. She reminds herself right there that she must work hard, too.
Ami's relationship with Michiru, who is seemingly her arch nemesis, is a strange one no matter who you ask. In a swim race, Ami slows down at the end so they tie, because she does not wish to be a competitor with Michiru. There are those who say that Michiru is smarter than Ami, which is not true. Ami has the brains, and Michiru has the looks. There are no buts about it.
Mizuno Ami means "Asian Beauty of Water". There are a million other translations to it, but I chose that one. Her hobbies are reading and chess. It is rumored that she beat the number one junior chess master in Japan. In the anime, this is how Ami and Beruche got their chess match and when Beruche became human. Ami is in class 2-5.
