I look outside my window
Listening to the birds
Sweet song filling the air
Yet I cant seem to find the words
My heart has been weeping
Since I told my friend
That he has been far more that that
But now its too late to amend
He told me in return
That he doesnt feel the same
That he likes someone else
But he wont reveal the name
Inside Ive always known
This would be the case
So I try not to sound hurt
Attempting to keep a straight face
I know that Im hardly lovely
And not even remotely smart
My talents are few and small
All of which tugs at my heart
If only he hadnt asked me
Collecting that small debt
He wouldnt ever have known
And I wouldnt have to fret
I wish I could simply fade away
Running away from everything
For it hurts to know he knows
Though to the hope I still do cling
Yet, he even asked her out
And she has, in turn, agreed
The date is truly set
I just wish Id taken heed
I wish it had never happened
That truly fateful day
But now its far, far too late
And I can only bow my head and pray
