Once before it used to be
A grade was just a grade
It didn't matter what you got
Whether it a C, a B, or A
Once before it used to be
No that no one really cared
For a C was still average
And average was only fair
Once before it used to be
That trying was just enough
And it didn't matter what you scored
For the courses were hard and tough
But now these days, it's not the same
You can't be simply pleased
With a GPA of 3.4
It must be high to then appease
Pressure now is high and sure
The push to get the grade
To get that unweighted 4.0
And with it, you have it made
For those who indeed get the grade
Doors are open wide
Colleges to them send mail
And ignore the others who truly tried
And where are the opportunities
For those who just can't see
For those who simply try so hard
But can't get higher than a 'lowly' B
Since when did we become this way
Where a C was not a C
Where a B means you're hardly smart enough
And an A is not what it's meant to be
I wish there was something I could do
To change this awful mess
But I can only stand and watch
And hope for what is best
