As the rain falls down from the skies
I began to wonder how
Just everything came to be the way it is
Everything, right here, right now
As the rain pitter-pats against the roof
I stare at the world below
Through the hazy curtain of falling rain
Just a few things I do know
As the rain slides down from the leaves
The birds have stopped their song
And the silence continues, deadly slow
Stretching even as the day grows long
As the rain makes puddles on the street
Making ripples along the path
I watch the sky for lightning spikes
Trying to avoid their deadly wrath
As the rain slides down the clear, smooth glass
I shake my head and sigh
For nobody has ever stopped to ask
How I feel about things and why
And as the rain stops and tapers off
To a mere sprinkling from the sky
My wondering ceases to persist
Stopping, despite how hard Ive tried
