So She Stood

A girl stood upon a hill
Her long hair dark and black
And as the sun set you could see
The joy her eyes did lack

Her voice was soft and velvety
     Just like a lovely song
But there were no words in this piece
And notes of sorrow were long

Her happiness had long since fled
For no one seemed to care
She was a person unto herself
Her feelings she could not share

At school no one seemed to notice
     Her dreadful state of mind
For she acted like a normal child
     So courteous and refined

Her grades were not yet slipping
Her laughter still soft but there
     Truly it was not evident
How she no longer seemed to care

     People always liked her
For she would listen to what youd say
     And never would she interrupt
No matter what the time of day

Many saw her as a friend
     But if they looked inside
They would see the blackness of the void
     And certainly be terrified

     She never judged by appearances
     Was always quick to forgive
And if you ever looked at her
Youd never think she lost her will to live

For some she was too perfect
     Representing the faultless kid
The person who did all too well
And they hated what she did

As long as she felt the anger
     And never felt the love
The friendship never touched her heart
Until death closed its icy glove

     No one could understand
Why she chose to end her life
"But she seemed to be so happy,
With no restraint or any strife."

     Parents seemed bewildered
     Friends were lost in thought
And the girl did hover as a ghost
For one thing she still sought

She saw that people truly did
     Care for her that day
And many people wept and cried
     Their feelings they couldnt say

It was not easy at that point
For her to just let go
For her real reason for leaving was
She did not think they would know

She knew now that people cared
Though it was hard to see
And if you did indeed really look
     It wasnt hard to believe

And so she stood upon that hill
     A new one, different ground
And as she went to heaven then
     A smile, but no sound
