Winter's Touch

The park is still, I think, tonight
With no birds calling where they might
The air seems cold and deathly still
And there some animals seem ill

Winters touch is as light as snow
Following where the wind doth blow
And trees do freeze with frosty air
Mocking me with a midnight stare

Jack Frost just shows no mercy here
Painting things with a constant leer
His white doth cover all in sight
The moon gleaming with silent light

All things do have a subtle glow
Of everything I think I know
That Winter, here, hath come to rest
Building for Her a subtle nest

Her eyes do gleam, an icy cold
Of yet I wonder am I bold
Enough to stand against her will
Her deathly silence gives me chills

Her coming tells of cold and death
And many draw their last, warm breath
But Lady why must you do this
Ending life with a simple kiss

Your cold embrace is known to all
And those unwary just might fall
And you do snatch my best of friends
Bringing them to meet their own end

My cries are silent, tears of pain
     Falling forever, like the rain
Curse you Lady who stands abroad
Who kills as often as She nods

     And when you finally depart
You have injured more than my heart
My body here lies cold but still
And then finally are the trills

The birds are back where they belong
     Singing now their beautiful song
Flowers grow and blossom once more
Now I know whats in store

This deathly cycle You have set
Winter here will return you bet
And with her comes those cold, cold nights
And I will face you out of spite

I shelter my friends, birds and trees
My wish is to just beg of thee
To leave my humble home alone
To not turn it as cold as stone

And yet I know, it is naught
My few request will not be thought
To hold importance as they are
Might as well wish upon a star

For Winter is but dark and cruel
And uses all just like a tool
And once a year comes to reign
Upon my small, so small domain
