ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. This rusting ship, the MV Charito, remains grounded at the Lower Base beach and is posing risks to the marine environment and to the residents swimming and catching fish at the surrounding areas. This vessel ran aground on Aug. 12, 1997 during a typhoon. There are two other grounded vessels that have not been removed -- the MV Nago 15 at the Lower Base beach near the power plant, and the MV Samala in Outer Cove Marina. Photo By Haidee V.
