What Swami says on Grace

"Without the Divine, man is helpless and cannot exist at all. The field may be ploughed and prepared well, seeds may be sown, manure and pesticides may be provided; the crop may be protected by proper fencing; but, if the rains fail, and the canal is dry, the entire process fails. The rain is the Grace of God."

"In order to win the Grace of God, prayer is the best mean; but all prayers do not reach God, for, most prayers are addressed to minor deities in charge of departments, like Revenue, Food, etc. God responds to prayers that are unselfish in intention, universal in outlook and full of yearning for peace, joy, concord and prosperity for all mankind. There should not be any egoistic, narrow, limiting factor tarnishing the prayer."

"Persons behave egoistically, due to the misconception that others are separate and distinct. They pray for trivial benefits because they are unaware of the joy they can earn by complete surrender to the will of God."

What Swami says on Bhakti (Devotion)

"It might be asked, Swami's Sankalpa is as iron, how could that be changed? Well, devotion is as fire. Fire will melt iron. God is moved by Devotion"

"Base your action on knowledge, the knowledge that all is one. Let the action be suffused with bhakti; that is to say, humility, love, mercy, and non-violence. Let bhakti be filled with knowledge, otherwise it will be as light as a balloon which drifts along anu current of air, or gust of wind. Mere knowledge will make the heart dry; Bhakti makes it soft with sympathy, and Karma gives the hands something to do, something which will sanctify every one of the minutes that have fallen to your lot to live."

What Swami says on Life

"Life is a pilgrimage, where man drags his feet along the rough and thorny road. With the Name of God on his lips, he will have no thirst; with the Form of God in his heart, he will feel no exhaustion. The Company of the  Holy will inspire him to travel in hope and faith. The assurance that God is within call, that He is ever near, nor is He long in coming, will lend strength to his limbs and courage to his age."

"Remember that with every step, you are nearing God, and God too, when you take one step towards Him, takes ten towards you. There is no stopping place in this pilgrimage; it is one continuous journey, through day and night, through valley and dessert, through tears and smiles, through death and birth, through tomb and womb. When the road ends, and the Goal is gained, the Pilgrim finds that he has travelled only from himself to himself, that the way was long and lonesome, but, the God that led him unto, was all the while in him, around him, with him and beside him!"

What Swami says on Service

"Whatever talent a person has, should be dedicated to the service of the rest of humanity, indeed, of all living beings. Therein lies fulfilment. All men are kin; they are of the same likeness, the same build, moulded out of the same material, with the same divine essence in each. Service to man will help your divinity to blossom, for, it will gladden your heart and make feel that life has been worth-while. Service to man is service to God; for He is in every man and every living being and in every stone and stump. Offer your talents at the feet of God; let every act be a flower, free from creeping worms of envy and egoism, and full of the fragrance of Love and Sacrifice. If you have the talent for acting dramatic roles, well, use it for the glorification of God, for the uplifting of man."

"The relief and joy that you give to the sick and the sad reach me, for I am in their hearts, and I am the One they call out, for God has no need of your service. Try to serve the godly; be 'dhaasaanudhaasaas' - servants of the servants of the Lord. The service of man is the only means by which you can serve God."

What Swami says on Duty

"What exactly is man's duty? First, he should tend his parents with love, reverence and gratitude. Second - Sathyam Vada and Dharmam Chara - speak the truth and act virtuously; third - whenever you have a few moments to spare, repeat the Name of the Lord with the form in your mind; fourth - never indulge in talking ill of others or try to discover faults in others and finally do not cause pain to others in any form."

What Swami says on Shanti/Peace

"Peace and prosperity cannot drop down from the sky; they have to be striven for, and acquired by sincere effort, dedicated to God, with intense and pure devotion; they have to be won by the cultivation of love, humility and reverence."

"Shanti is merely not peace. It is something which transcends peace. It is the calm of the mind, serenity of the mind, which makes you find inner peace and total stability within yourself. Shanti plays a great role in any integrated personality's life and conduct. We see all sights from Pole to Pole and glance and nod and bustle by, And never once posses our soul before we die. Those who practise Shanti have learnt how to possess their soul before the last hour arrives."

What Swami says on Sadhana

"To begin with, it (Duty) starts with 'I', as an individual, like a drop of oil on the surface of water. But once you take to service of others, then the expansion of heart will start, and the 'I' and 'You' become 'We'. The 'We' will also grow and become all-expansive, and the 'I' where you begin will totally disappear. The ego gets sublimated. In this manner, when we join He (God) also, 'We' plus 'He' becomes 'He' only. The 'We' will have disappeared, the 'I' also has disappeared and what subsists is only 'He'."

"The starting point is therefore, to tell yourself that you are the messenger of God. The next step is the experience as 'I' am the Son of God. In the first experience, there is a distinct separation between you and Him. You are a messenger. He is the master. The link is not much kinship between you and Him. Slowly, however, the Master-Messenger relationship becoms closer and closer and a kinship is born. Thus, getting closer, you become like the Son of God. You are an heir to and an aspect of the Father. You have shared the blood of the Father and you have a heritage of His Glory. As the identification with the Master gets intensified and strengthened, like Jesus you can also proclaim 'I and my Father are One'. Actually, this is the Truth that you are not distinct from Him: Tat Twam Asi."

"Through discipline and sadhana, you should attain to that state. As a messenger, you should, with love and humility, take to service. Through love and service to others, you come closer and closer and ultimately become One with Him."

"Make your heart Soft, then success is quick in Sadhana (spiritual practice). Talk Softly, talk sweetly, talk only of God - that is the process of softening the subsoil. Develop compassion, sympathy; engage in service, understand the agony of poverty and disease, distress and despair. Share both tears and cheers with others. That is the way to soften the heart and help Sadhana to succeed."

What Swami says on Love

"May all of you realise that Love is God. Love is God and God can be approached, adored and attained only through Love. Love unites and establishes harmony, concord and peace. Hatred divides, distorts and destroys. What the world needs today to save itself is Unity based on this most spiritual of all Virtues - Love."

"Love and law are the basic human values. Love as thought is Truth. Love as action is Right Conduct. Love as understanding is Peace. Love as feeling is Non-Violence. All men must share in this precious heritage of Selflessness, Universal Love and develop it by practise in daily life."

"Love is of three types. The first is based on sheer selfishness, binding the ego with a craving for self-possession. The person is busy with fulfilling only his basic desires. The second type of love attaches itself to persons who are wealthy or in positions of power. This love is also based on self-interest. The highest type of love is based on the knowledge that the eternal and universal Atma pervades everyone and everywhere. This love leads to equal-mindedness and perfect peace and joy."

What Swami says on Religion

"All religions are mine. There is no need for you to change from one religion to another. You can carry on in your own established modes and practices of worship. And when you do so, you will come nearer and nearer to me. The universe is my mansion and even those who deny Me are Mine. Call Me by any Name and I shall respond. Picture Me in any Form and I shall present Myself before you. I am in the least of you as much as in the best. Therefore, do not slander or injure anyone, for you are slandering and injuring Me who is in him."

"The should be no kind of coercion or compulsion in the sphere of religion. Never entertain the feeling that one's religion is superior and another's inferior. May you become worthy instruments in the revival of the Religion of Love and the Resurgence of Human Values. Know that I am ever with you, within you and around you. Infact I am in you as much as you are in me."

What Swami says on Namasmarana

"Always remembering the Lord, reciting His Name, writing It, uttering It, or meditating on It, or turning over the rosary with It, or worshipping an idol or image with It - this constant dwelling with the Name of  God is itself 'all the Holy Places, all the Sacred Teerthas, all the famous Shrines'."

"Namasmarana is the Taranopaya. That is the means of crossing the 'Sea of Samsara'. The Name is the raft that will safely take you across. The Name will remove the veil of Maya, that now hides the Shakti from the Vyakty, the Universal from the individual. When the veil fades out, Man discovers Him (the Divine) in himself; he beholds the Universe as himself. Man has Infinite Power and Infinite Potentiality. For, he is a Wave of, and is one with the Godhead - the Ocean of Infinity."

"I have now to tell you the meaning of 'Baba'. Baba is B, A, B, A. The first 'B' stands for 'Being'; 'A' stands for 'Awareness'; the third letter 'B' stands for 'Bliss'; the fourth letter 'A' for 'Atma'. Again, the first 'B' 'Being' is Sat; the next letter 'A' 'Awareness' is Chit; the third letter 'B' 'Bliss' is Ananda."

What Swami says on Yearning for God

"You must have a yearning for God, the yearning of the stone to be a diamond. You must hold the hand of God through Namasmarana and walk by His side. You must hold fast and not give up. Be like the monkey that clings to its mother and is thereby guarded by her superior strength and wisdom. The Lord is won by sincere agony and steady yearning. The yearning will overcome all obstacles and like a swollen river leap over bunds and banks and overwhelm all by its strength. Difficulties are created to increase the 'yearning' and to lift the sincere devotee from the rest. By the alchemy of such Smarana, even a rock is turned into softness and moulded into a beautiful image."

What Swami says on Mother

"It takes a Mother’s Love, to make a house a home,
A place to be remembered, no matter where we roam;
It takes a Mother’s patience, to bring a child upright;
Her courage and cheerfulness, to make a dark day bright.
It takes a Mother’s thoughtfulness, to mend the heart’s deep hurts,
All her skill and tolerance, to mend little socks and shirts.
It takes a Mother’s kindness, to forgive us when we err,
To sympathise with us in trouble, and bow her head in prayer.
It takes Mother’s wisdom, to recognise our needs,
And to reassure us, by her loving words and deeds.
It takes a Mother’s endless faith, her confidence and her trust,
To guide us through the pitfalls of selfishness and lust.
There are times when only a Mother’s heart can share the joy we feel.
When something we dreamed about, is quite suddenly real.
There are times when only a Mother’s Love can understand our tears,
Our bitter dissapointments, and our child like fears.
There are times when only a Mother’s faith can help us on life’s way.
And inspire in us the confidence we need from day to day.
And that is why in all this world, there cannot be another
Who could fulfill Gods purpose as completely as our Mother."
