What Swami says on Bhajan & Sankeertan

"God does not need praise or adulation, nor need He be called upon loudly and for long. He is not carried away like humans by flattery or fulsome praise. You are only reminding yourself of the God within you when you do Bhajan. When you allow your mind to dwell upon the attributes of God, all the dross in it will be removed and all the good will be promoted. The mind is coloured by the thoughts that pass through it. Dwell on the ONE and your eyes will see only the ONE. You may see 'ten'; but there can be no ten without the ONE repeated ten times. This ONE is the Divine in each one. It is like sugar at the bottom of the cup of water; unless it is stirred, the water will be tasteless. But, once it is stirred, all the water gets stirred. Stir God with the spoon of Intelligence in the water of insipid life and that will make all the moments of life sweet and tasty. Have faith in God and believe that He is Omnipresent - that is to say, present in all others equally. That will give you sufficient inspiration and strength to make your life as well as the lives of others happy."

"Nama-Smaran or singing the name and glory of God is the easiest and yet most effective method of unfolding the Divinity in our heart. When fire burns the wood, it covers itself by a layer of ash. You blow out that ash and see the burning fire. So too, the water in a pool gets concealed under its own green scum or marshly foliage. Remove this scum and you see the pure water again. Even so, the Atman or Blissful Self gets concealed under the cover of Raga (attachment) and Dwesha (hatred) and aliied dualities. Nama-Smaran is the best means to remove this cover and experience Divinity in our heart. This Sadhana puts to rest the fickle mind in the sweet love and glory of the Lord while the clapping of hands drives away the birds of Raga and Dwesha and other dualities from our heart. The divine names we sing are potent manthras which have the power of sublimating our mind and developing faith and devotion. In fact, it becomes Naada-Brahma (Divine Sound) and puts us in touch with God and gives us the experience of His Ananda - Bliss."

"You must pass your days in song. Let your whole life be a song, believe that God is everywhere at all times and derive strength, comfort and joy, singing in your heart in His Presence the glory of God. Let melody and harmony surge up from your hearts and let all take delight in the love that you express through that song."
