It was very inspiring to see the youth from Bangalore turn up in large numbers at Mensiganahalli village on 18th November 2001 to take part in the Grama Seva activities. The programme started with Sai Bhajans sung by the youth at the local village temple which were also attended in large numbers by the local villagers. The youth then got engaged in several seva activities such as the Medical Camp with free distribution of medicines to villagers, physical work involving road and drainage cleaning, health and hygiene education for the village children, and an interesting programme of "Mane-Mane Sai Nama:.
The medical camp was conducted by eight doctors covering different medical disciplines and involved free distribution of medicines. Around 300 patients benefited from the medical camp and were recipients of Bhagawan's divine grace and blessings. The next activity involving drainage and road cleaning delighted the villagers. In fact many of the villagers also joined in these activities. The village children were given educative tips on dental hygiene by dentists, and toothbrushes were distributed to all children. A brief quiz was also conducted on mythology for the village children and prizes were given to all participants. This sent waves of joy and happiness among the village children. Narayana seva was also conducted in the village. The distribution of food packets was done by the youth who went from house to house and gave the food packets with lots of love. The happiness on the faces of every villager infused loads of enthusiasm and motivation in every youth.
Thereafter, the youth formed themselves into smaller groups of 8 to 10 members and organized the "Mane-Mane Sai Nama" programme. They went to every house in the village singing Sai bhajans and bringing home the thrill of Sai Nama-sankeertana to all villagers. In the evening, "Sathya Sai Pallaki Utsavam" was conducted with great fanfare and devotion bringing immense joy and bliss to the entire village. Devotional Sai Bhajans were sung by the youth, and Swami's Pallaki was taken throughout the village with the continuous chanting of Sai Gayathri. Villagers came out in large numbers and offered Puja to the Lord by breaking coconuts and taking Arathi with kumkum water and camphor. The Pallaki Utsavam concluded with Mahamangalaarathi offered to Bhagawan by the village elders. Later that evening, a film on Bhagawan was shown to all the villagers. It was amazing to see the entire village watch the film in an atmosphere of absolute discipline and devoted concentration. After the film show, brief talks on the glory of Bhagawan were given by devotees with long years of experience.
Finally, it was time to say adieu to the villagers. This brought to an end what was yet another memorable day for the youth members who had spent an entire day enveloped by the love and sincere affection shown to them by the villagers"
