Chapter 1
----------------------------
The room was burning up.
Kinomoto Sakura could not move for her body was not responding to her. Her eyelids were heavy, the base of her neck was sore, and she felt the surrounding head engulfed her and something heavy was pinning her down, preventing any movement she might have.
She tried to push the weight off her but somehow, whatever thing it was, it weighed her down. Then, she felt something cool against her forehead. Summoning all the strength, Sakura reluctantly opened her eyes and squinted against the bright lights.
Her eyes widened in surprise. Nothing was on fire and she was staring at a white ceiling The heavy thing pinning her down was actually a thick blanket. She heaved a sigh of relief, knowing that she was safe for a moment.
The base of her neck was throbbing painfully until Sakura could not deny it. She lifted a hand to massage it gently and that was when someone spoke in the room, not too softly.
She winced in pain when the words entered her ears.
"Are you alright? In pain anywhere?"
Sakura turned to find out who the person was, only to find a familiar young lady around her age with deep red eyes, sitting by the bed. She was watching Sakura with concerned eyes.
Embarrassed to let someone see her in this pathetic condition, Sakura sat up quickly. The movement almost knocked her off the bed and the lady reached out to steady her. Sakura groaned in pain as she held her own neck in place. "What happened?" Sakura croaked out.
"I'm Li Meiling," the lady said in a sympathetic voice. "You're in the Li mansion now."
Sakura suddenly turned cold, "Why am I here? I can't remember a single thing."
Meiling shrugged, "Syaoran is responsible for the pain in your neck. He hit you yesterday and you went unconscious. He was the one who brought you here."
"Syaoran?" Sakura asked dumbly. "You mean Kaitou Kid?"
"Actually," Meiling started. "Syaoran is not the legendary Kaitou Kid. He was just an imposter, trying to lure him out so that he could avenge his cousin."
"Did his cousin died under the hands of Kaitou Kid?" Sakura asked innocently.
"It was said so but I believed Kaitou Kid would not do such a thing. I admired him so much!"
"You admired the notorious thief?" Sakura choked out, shaking her head in disbelief and then groaned in pain for doing so. "I am going to make him pay for this pain."
Meiling broke out into fits of laughter and then turned serious out of a sudden, saying, "Actually, Kaitou Kid was not that bad a person at all. It's just that the rich hated him for taking away their valuables and giving them away to help the poor. He was so courageous, standing up for the poor and lending them a helping hand. If I could do anything to help him, I would but . now Syaoran wants to kill him. How I wish I could warn Kaitou Kid."
Sakura's heart warmed upon hearing this and actually smiled, which she rarely did after she resigned to fate after her mother's terrible death. She saw the enemies attacking but she could not reach her mother in time to warn her about it. She was only three at the time and yet.
"If you sincerely wish to tell Kaitou Kid about that, I am sure by some ways, he would be able to hear it," Sakura said. "You have to believe it."
"Can I really do it?" Meiling asked, giving Sakura a doubtful look.
"Of course you can!" Sakura exclaimed, not daring to nod her head. "Only if you believe it."
"Thank you very much. I really appreciate it, er..."
"Sakura. I am Kinomoto Sakura."
"Thank you Sakura," Meiling said and turned to leave. "I'm bringing some food up for you. Please do wait for a moment."
The moment Meiling exited the room, Sakura immediately went into action. Jumping off the bed, she hurried over to the window and waved a lighted candle in her hand in order to give orders and signals. One of her men, Tanaka, climbed into the room through the window and bowed to her.
"Kamikaze Kaitou Kid," Tanaka said. "What should we do now that you've managed to enter the Li mansion successfully?"
"I am not so sure yet but I know I will rest for one day since I am injured. Then I will plot my sweet revenge."
"But Kid, you are supposed to be helping him, not to hurt him or wasting your time away."
"You are right about that, Tanaka-san but I only wanted to play with him. I do not suppose this will hurt him."
Tanaka sighed deeply and agreed with Sakura's ideas reluctantly. "Fine, we will do as you've said but there is one more question."
"Shoot."
"What about the others?"
"Kamikaze kaitou Kid cannot work by herself. The rest of you will be assigned a place to guard and attack any intruders found, then report to me. This is to be done undercover, do you understand, me?"
"I have got what you wanted in my head, Kid. Meet you here the same time the day after," Tanaka said and jumped out of the window, disappearing into the darkness.
The door to the room suddenly flung open the next moment and a shocked Meiling emerged from where she was eavesdropping. She gaped at Sakura and yelled, "Kaitou Kid was a she all along?"
"I knew you were hiding out there listening to our conversation, Meiling- san. I guessed Syaoran-kun had done me a good deed by pretending to be me. Don't you worry, I am not bringing harm to the family. I am trying to help, can't you see?" Sakura said in exasperation. "I sincerely hope that you will keep my identity a secret until everything is solved."
Meiling hesitated. Half of her wanted to help Kaitou Kid while the other half wanted to help Syaoran. What should she do now?
As if knowing Meiling's internal battle, Sakura added gently, "Do what you feel is right. I won't force you to do anything against your will."
Meiling gaped at Sakura, "You are really a wonderful person. How can such a frail young lady like you kill Leiyunn?"
Sakura rubbed her neck and turned to leave, then she stopped at the door.
"I didn't kill Leiyunn-san. To tell you the truth, he's still alive."
Then she left, laving Meiling staring into the air.
Exactly a minute later, she leaped into the air with joy, shouting, "He's still alive!"

Sakura stepped into the balcony of the Li mansion and enjoyed the glorious scenery of the dark exposed to her view. With the guide f the lamp posts, Sakura knew that what she was seeing was actually a garden.
She smiled and leaned against the railing , savoring the peaceful moment. Unfortunately, a cough interrupted her a few moments later, demanding her immediate attention.
Sakura whirled around and came face to face with a graceful lady with jet-black hair, whom she recognized was Syaoran's mother. Afterall, this was her second time living with the Lis. Sakura bowed to her with reverence and scurried away, only to be held back.
"Are you the Japanese girl Syaoran brought back years ago?"
Sakura hesitated, trying to decide what she should do. "Yes, Yelan-san," she replied earnestly, her back still facing her.
"Sakura isn't it? Look at how much you have grown!"
"I am here only to do an errand," Sakura told her coldly.
A minute of awkward silence followed by before Yelan finally spoke in a motherly voice, "Do you want to share it with me?"
Sakura turned to her and shook her head.
She contradicted her own actions by following Yelan into a room.
Sakura sat facing the window while she waited patiently for Yelan to speak. "Trouble?"
"No, but this concern all the Lis," Sakura replied and turned solemn.
"We?"
"I am afraid so. The people who murdered Li Leiyunn framed Kamikaze Kaitou Kid. Obviously, that Kaitou is also involved."
"He won't come and fight us, will he? I meant the Kaitou."
Sakura shook her head, "No, the Kaitou won't. In fact, the Kaitou save Leiyunn-san instead but what I am afraid most is that the murderers will try to attack the other Lis."
"How did you know all this? Do you work for Kaitou Kid?" Yelan asked suspiciously.
"You can say so." Sakura said and lifted a hand to her neck.
"Are you injured?"
"Er... no... Just a little bit sore here," Sakura faked a laugh.
"It's so kid of the Kaitou to send a warning message here to us."
"Perhaps." Sakura trailed off upon seeing a firework illuminating the night sky. She stood up hastily, "That firework!"
Sakura was about to leap out of the window when she remembered that Yelan was with her and turned back, telling her, "Don't tell Syaoran about me until everything is over!"
"What is going on?"
"Intruders."
With that, magnificent pink wings sprouted from her back and she went sailing in the air, to where she guessed the origin of the firework was. Her heart was beating wildly. Is anyone hurt?
She saw Tanaka waving to her frantically and so she flew down, landing softly on a huge piece of rock. Her eyes widened when she saw Syaoran at the scene, scowling darkly at her. She cringed in response.
"Kid!" Tanaka added hurriedly. "I signaled for you to return to where you came from!"
"I have already landed."
"So you are that Kaitou who killed my cousin," Syaoran said, striding towards Sakura purposefully.
"That's so clever of you to have guessed it but I am not the one who killed your cousin," Sakura said dryly. "I don't suppose you know what was going on here," she added, pointing to a bunch of unconscious men lying in a heap together.
"That's when I need you to do some explaining!" Syaoran retorted, towering over Sakura.
"Your whole family is in danger!"
"Tell me the truth!" Syaoran said through gritted teeth.
"I wouldn't dare to lie. That's all I can tell you for now."
Syaoran was angry, far more angrier than the other times when he lost his temper. He had believed this lady, helped her and brought her in so that she could be attended to and yet, she had deceived him. His heart was beating painfully. It was as if it could crack open soon. He would not tolerate such deception.
"Leave," Syaoran stated plainly.
"But I was trying to help you..."
"We don't need your help!" Syaoran shouted. "Leave with all your men now and don't ever come back here again! I won't tolerate a murderer."
Syaoran saw Sakura's shoulders slumped in defeat and tore his gaze away. He had to let her go now, or never, He strode back into the mansion.
Sakura dropped down onto her knees, her shoulders racking with sobs. I am being hated by him! Tanaka patted her back gently and signaled for the others to retreat, leaving Sakura alone in the Li garden, crying her hearts out.
