Chapter 2

----------------------------

It was raining heavily.

It had been hours since Syaoran left her and her legs felt heavier than usual as she wandered her way out. She felt humiliated but she felt no anger towards Syaoran. Sakura realized how she felt towards him and why she had told him the truth about herself.

Sakura had felt a peculiar sensation in her heart when she first met Syaoran. She knew he would do no harm to her when he offered his help and took her in. When he thought that she was leaving the restaurant to commit suicide, he had knocked her unconscious and brought her to his house. Her heart warmed upon the mere thought of it.

She had never met a man with such kindness, expect her own brother but he always bullied her and teased her. Sakura squatted outside the Li mansion, the rain seemed to pour over her, drenching her and soaking her. She was cold, but she hardly noticed it for the pain in her heart was more unbearable. It was tearing apart upon knowing that she had lost Syaoran.forever.

He would not forgive her. Sakura was sure about it as the moment they met, she had told him nothing but lies. Lies that would divert his attention from Kamikaze Kaitou Kid, who was her.

Why did she have to be Kamikaze Kaitou Kid anyway? One did not gain from being a thief. Sakura's mother was also one of them but she died when Sakura was only three years old, when she was on a mission. Sakura, though young, witnessed the whole thing and why her own mother had died. She was attacked in a big mansion, which she could no longer remember where.

Sakura put the blame on herself. She could have helped her mother; could have pushed her out of harm's way or get some help for her mother but she did none of it, just hiding in a safe enclosed area, trembling with fear while watching the fight.

She fell to her death and it was not a pleasant sight but Sakura saw it and remembered it for life. For fifteen years, she kept this secret to herself. She remembered vaguely that she was hiding under the table, in a room filled with photographs and trophies then.

She lost her appetite entirely for a week and she was too weak to walk. Her father and brother knew nothing wrong but thought she had contacted some diseases and she was admitted into the hospital.

Only Sakura herself knew how many times she was poked at by a needle, how many times she had taken x-ray and how many times her blood had been drawn. All she could say was that she suffered countless torture.

Sakura shuddered, pushed all the images from her mind, and tried to concentrate on the present. She knew she could do nothing to change Syaoran's thinking, knowing most men were stubborn, but she did not want to stay away from Syaoran, for fear that his enemies might come back and catch them unprepared.

There has to be some ways to sneak into the mansion unnoticed! Sakura thought solemnly. Pushing back a strand of wet hair off her cheek and looked up, letting drops of rain onto her face, savouring this moment, knowing that there would not be any more of time left for her to enjoy. That was when she realized that she was shivering like an injured puppy.

She clutched herself in order to preserve some of her body heat; it was of no much help. She could not stop the clattering of her teeth. Her clothing now wet and clinging to her, had not protection against the cold. I am going to be sick again. Sakura thought, shaking her head.

Just as she thought that the world was going to collapse, she saw a lone figure in the dark, walking slowly and taking the time towards the Li mansion, with an umbrella. Sakura straightened up and braced for an attack, thinking that the enemy had returned.

The person stopped abruptly and Sakura frowned. What is the person up to?

"Who are you?" The person asked in a feminine voice and Sakura knew that it was a she.

"I have no need to answer and you are not going into this house unless you identify yourself." Sakura replied and took up a fighting pose.

"I am Li Futtie and this is my house! Why can't I go in?" Futtie demanded and started running towards her. She gasped when she saw Sakura. "You are... you are..."

"Who I am is none of your business. You have to prove to me that you are part of this house before you can enter, for safety reasons if you please."

Futtie's eyes were clouded with tears when she saw Sakura's pathetic form, "What has happened to you, Kinomoto-san? Why are you standing in the rain? Come in quick!"

Futtie held the umbrella over the two of them and urged Sakura in but the latter did not bulge from her position.

"I am afraid I cannot go with you. You may go in now, Li-san," Sakura said and opened the front gate for Futtie.

"Why? Has my little brother made you do this? What has happened?"

Sakura remained silent and Futtie repeated her question. "I prefer not to answer. Please hurry in before the enemies come back again."

"Enemies... they who tried to murder your cousin," Sakura continued.

Sakura winced when the unwelcome memories flooded her mind again. That day, Sakura and her men were roaming around the woods for people, stupid enough to wander in the wood alone, creating a chance for their properties to be stolen. Sakura was about to give up for the day when Tanaka stopped her and pointed to the direction where loud arguments could be heard.

Curious, Sakura crept behind the bushes to take a closer look. Three men were arguing about something. Muffled sounds were all she could hear. Boldly, she went behind a big tree directly behind the arguing group and eavesdropped.

"Li Leiyunn! Don't you try to threaten me! Hand over the goods now!" the first man demanded.

"I told you, I do not have it!" Leiyunn answered.

"If you refuses to hand them over," the third man threatened. "You will take this bullet."

"If that is what you want." Leiyunn said and shrugged.

Sakura tensed behind the tree as she trued to peek at the trio but the gunshot rang in the air and she jumped out of her hiding place, trying to startle the two supposedly bad guys while giving time for her men to take Leiyunn into a safe place.

The bad guys stumbled back and Sakura expertly kicked their guns away and landed a punch on the two of them, then let out a whistle for help from her men.

Men she all knew ran in from all directions, giving the bad guys a kick and a punch and whatsoever. Sakura jumped up onto a tree branch, sat down, and watched the scene from above, swallowing a laugh at the humorous site.

Then she remembered the injured guy. From where she was, she spotted Tanaka at the other end of the woods with three other men, dragging Leiyunn to safety. She rushed to them and frowned at the injured Leiyunn.

"Are you related to Li Syaoran?" Sakura asked in a cold voice.

Leiyunn looked surprised and winced in his effort to speak. He had been shot in his chest. "Who are you? How did you know my cousin?"

"Your cousin?" It was Sakura's turn to be surprised. "I never knew he had a cousin.. Oh well, how come you are in Japan and not in Hong Kong?"

"I am on a mission. I will never be able to make it back now. Er..."

"Yes? Just speak whatever is in your mind," Sakura offered.

"Kaitou Kid," Tanaka interrupted but Sakura raised up a hand to silence him.

"Would you please help me to look after Syaoran until I have recovered? He would go into great lengths to look for me and I am afraid he might be attacked, I am sure my enemies would say that I am dead and."

"I understand and I will do my best to help you. However, I do not know my way around in Hong Kong."

"Just ask around for the Meiling's restaurant and. around midnight.you.you will be able to find Syaoran," with that, Leiyunn fainted.

Sakura stood motionless and then gave her command, "Bring Leiyunn to my brother's place until he recovered and I want my brother to escort him personally back to Hong Kong when he is well again. Is that clear?"

"Yes Kid," Tanaka said reluctantly, knowing that once Sakura made her decisions, no one could change her mind.

"We will be leaving for Hong Kong tomorrow." Sakura said and left.

------------------------------------------------

"Are you feeling alright?" Futtie asked curiously upon seeing the distant look on Sakura. "Hello?" She shook Sakura's shoulders and felt her forehead. "You are burning up!"

Sakura jerked back to attention and shrugged Futtie's hands away. "Please go in now."

"Then come in with me!"

"No. Syaoran does not want me to be in there! Unhand me this instance!"

"If he does not want to see you. then I have another idea to put you in the house without being noticed." Futtie said.

"How?"

Dragging Sakura by her hand, Futtie stepped into the mansion and said, "You will see."

Her voice was stuck in her throat when she saw a giant man appear behind Sakura.

------------------------------------------------

Syaoran was in his study room when a knock sounded on the door, "Leave me be!"

The person obviously had decided to ignore his words. Opening the door, she stepped in. "My little brother, what has made you so upset?" Futtie asked, trying to sound neutral and sat down on the seat opposite Syaoran.

"Upset? Don't be ridiculous sister. I was never upset," Syaoran looked up and glare at Futtie.

Futtie laughed evilly, "You? Never upset? I wonder who was the person who lost his appetite after returning from Japan. Isn't that you?"

"That is a different thing!" Syaoran protested and straightened up from his seat.

Walking towards his window, his expressions tender, he gazed at the raining sky and his thoughts back to the lady who had an impact on him. He felt as if he had known her for a very long time and that he had taken a liking for her, even though she had somehow tricked him into bringing her into his mansion.

"Did you meet anyone on your way here?" Syaoran suddenly asked.

Futtie raised a brow at him in response, "Who do you want me to meet?"

"A... lady. A lady with smooth auburn hair and tattered white blouse to be exact," Syaoran stated. "Did you meet her?"

Futtie hesitated for a moment and then told him earnestly with a sign, "Poor girl, she refused to leave her post outside your house, hoping to protect you family. Standing in the rain for a few hours already, without an umbrella and her torn shirt serving no insulating purposes and not to mention that she was burning up with fever. She refused to seek shelter when I offered her. such a dear child."

Futtie turned from her seat to face Syaoran, only to find him missing. She let out a chuckle as she knew exactly where Syaoran had gone to. "Such a dear brother. it is a wonder that Sakura-chan can change him twice."

------------------------------------------------

Syaoran dashed out of the mansion into the rain without an umbrella to shelter him from the cruelty of the raindrops and headed straight for the front gate. Sakura was not there alone but all his men were there with her. A huge guy was varying a sleeping Sakura in his arms. He spoke in a booming voice, "I can't believe that you have hurt her twice in her lifetime. Here, take you cousin back."

Leiyunn walked slowly towards a surprised and amazed Syaoran, who was exceptionally fond of his cousin. "I thought you were killed!"

"Nah."

"Let's go," the man who held Sakura commanded and they all turned to leave.

"Wait!" Syaoran shouted and they stopped. "Who are you?"

"Kinomoto Touya. I thought you are supposed to remember your childhood friend's brother for the rest of your life?"

"I don't understand! Let go of Sakura this instance!"

"What rights do you have over her?"

"And you? What rights do you have?"

"I am her brother, idiot! Can't be bothered with you!" Touya retorted and continued walking again.

"SAKURA!"

I guess this chapter turned out to be as confusing as the one before. I can't help it. Chapter 3 has a long way to come. Any comments? Please?
