Chapter 3

----------------------------

It has been two weeks since Sakura last saw Syaoran. She had to admit that she had missed him very much--- so much that her heart ached with it. Sakura sighed and concentrate on her household chores she had to do, with Touya keeping an eye on her.

"Why do you have to follow me everywhere I go like a pup? This is so irritating, onii-chan," Sakura protested as she tried to push Touya out of the room that she was in. "I am perfectly fine now."

Touya refused to bulge from his position and told Sakura earnestly, "I don't want you to go looking for that gaki again."

"What?" Sakura did not mean to shout but she was too shocked that Touya actually knew what she was thinking.

"Did I get that right?"

Sakura quit pushing Touya and hastily returned to her chores, blushing furiously. "So what if I like him?"

Touya shook his head and informed Sakura before leaving her alone, "By the way Sakura, there is a kid who wishes to challenge Kamikaze Kaitou Kid tonight at 10 with a million dollars (Yen?) at King Penguin Park. There is no name on the notice so I knew nothing about the challenger. Are you going to take it?"

Sakura thought for a moment, a million dollars is no small sum of money. It could be used to help many people. She grinned and said, "Just leave it all to Kid!"

------------------------------------------------

Sakura was now up in one of the trees in King Penguin Park, dressed in her usual fighting outfit, which consist of a traditional robe and a veil covering the lower portion of her face. She leaned against the tree trunk, getting impatient as the time drew near.

"Why couldn't the person come earlier?" Sakura grumbled.

"Who couldn't come earlier?" A familiar voice said.

Sakura almost toppled over from recognizing the voice but the person steadied her. He was dressed totally in black from head to toe and only his eyes were visible. Who is he? Why does his voice sound so familiar? (a/n: Guess who is the guy? Answer would be on the next few chapters. Hehee.)

"Who are you?" Sakura demanded.

"You will know if you win me, plus another million dollars but," he paused and looked at her seriously. "If you lose, you are going to marry me."

"You are on," Sakura agreed and promptly jumped off the branch and onto the ground, knowing that she would definitely win him.

"Shall we fight using our bare hands?" the challenger asked when he, too, landed onto the ground.

Without bothering to voice out her answer, Sakura launched an attack, which he dodged it with ease, followed by another and another. Suddenly, he caught her wrist and pulled her towards him so forcefully that she lost her balance and stumbled towards him. Before she could have a chance to recover, he tugged her towards him again and she was leaning directly against him, using only his shoulders for support.

Sakura blushed and pulled away hastily and was met by the laughing eyes of the challenger. She launched another similar attack but before she could even touch a strand of his hair, she was tripped by him and fell flat on her bottom. Groaning, Sakura got up and rubbed her sore bottom before she concentrated fully on what she was facing - a formidable opponent.

She was agile, witty and cunning and yet she could not outwit him. He was full of tricks and surprises. If Sakura was not so angry at the moment, she might actually gave him a round of applause.

"What do you actually want from me?" Sakura demanded.

"You."

"You are joking, sir. I don't even know you."

"You might be wrong about that. We will call this off today. Wait for my news, Sakura," with that, he ran off, leaving Sakura alone in the park looking stunned.

"How on Earth - did he know my name?" Sakura muttered.

------------------------------------------------

Sakura yawned the moment she woke up the next morning. She took her own sweet time getting dressed and going downstairs and blinked at the commotion going on in the morning. Fujitaka, Touya, as well as Yukito, Chiharu, Naoko, Rika, Yamazaki and Tomoyo were present. They abruptly softened down when they spotted Sakura.

"Why are all of you here so early in the morning?" Sakura asked and amended, "Not that I mind it - "

"We were discussing about the sleepover party Tomoyo-chan will be organizing. Right, Tomoyo-chan?"

"Er- Yes! We were discussing about the sleepover party! Haha." Tomoyo assured, her voice cracking with strain.

Sakura looked mildly curious but chose to ignore their lies. She took the newspapers and headed for the dinning room when the newspapers she was holding on to was snatched away by Touya. "Hey!"

"I have the right to read it first since I pay for it," Touya said and tried to hide the newspapers away.

"What is wrong with all of you today?" Sakura asked, exasperated.

"You are imagining things today, Sakura-chan," Rika explained. "Did you sleep well last night?"

"Very well. Thank you."

Yamazaki stood up suddenly and began his lies again, before Chiharu could stop him, "Marriages are bringing to people who are in love - umphfs!"

Sakura frowned, "Who is getting married?"

Silence fell upon them and suddenly, she felt that something ominous was going on. "Since you have already known it-" Fujitaka said reluctantly.

"Your childhood lover, Li Syaoran, will be marrying Meiling in a month's time," Touya admitted.

"TOUYA!" A chorus of shouts erupted and he was immediately pulled away.

Too shock to move, or even breathe, Sakura stood rooted to the spot as she glanced at the worried looks given to her by her family and friends. She felt her mind withdrawing and went blank the next system. Her nervous system had broken down and her last coherent thought was, "Why?"

------------------------------------------------

Tomoyo waved a hand in front of Sakura's face. Never once did Sakura flutter her eyelids. Worried had taken over her actions for Tomoyo shook Sakura's shoulders wildly, trying to wake her out of her trance.

"I guess we are left with one solution," Naoko said. "Bring Li-kun back here."

The reason why all her close friends came rushing to the Kinomoto residence was to keep the news of Syaoran's marriage in the dark from Sakura. The news had broadcasted in every channel as well as on the front page of every newspaper. After all, the Li clan was famous throughout the whole world.

"Sakura-chan?" Rika asked worriedly.

"I am going to kill that Chinese gaki when I get my hands on him," Touya growled menacingly.

"The most important thing is to get Sakura-chan back," Yukito emphasized and got the agreement from all the people.

They looked at Sakura's still form and shook their head for they knew that Sakura was trying to run away from reality. Suddenly, Sakura shook her head and looked about her in confusion, "Why are all of you looking at me like that?" She asked with a big smile.

"Seems like we don't have to get that Chinese gaki anymore," Touya muttered and forced himself to walk away, dismissing the frustrating subject.

"Are you alright, Sakura-chan?" Yukito asked.

Sakura shook her head; her expression was that of bewilderment, "Er-who is the Chinese gaki onii-chan talked about?"

"Li-kun. I mean your brother is talking about Li Syaoran," Tomoyo replied.

"Who is Li Syaoran?" Sakura asked again, completely loss. "Do I know him?"

Tomoyo and Yukito looked at each other while Naoko and Rika did the same thing. They were all appalled by their own conclusions.

Sakura has forgotten Li Syaoran!

-----------------------------------------------

Two weeks ago in Hong Kong...

Syaoran lay on his own bed, his hands tucked behind the back of his head, and stared at the ceiling blankly. So lost was he in his own thoughts that he did not hear his mother entering his room. Yelan's heart went to her son when she saw his solemn profile. He had never ever looked like this in his whole life, not even when his father past away.

It must be really hard on him. Yelan thought sadly and approached him. He quickly sat upright the moment he saw Yelan and tried to turn back to his serious expression but for some unknown reasons, he could not seem to accomplish that. He let out a loud sigh of defeat and stared at the floor instead, until he felt his mother patting the top of his head lightly.

"Mother?"

"Yes son?"

Syaoran flopped back onto his back again and asked, "Have I met Sakura before? I mean when I was young. She looked awfully familiar to me."

Somehow, Yelan knew this question would come out from him and she replied honestly, "Yes Syaoran. You have met her and even brought her home before."

"Then why do I not remember her?"

You were brainwashed by the Elders. How can I possibly tell you that? "Maybe you just forgot her or maybe."

"Maybe what, Mother?"

"Nothing."

Just then, Meiling flew into the room and ran straight into Syaoran's arms, hugging him while he tried to break free. "What's the matter with you Meiling? Get off me!"

Meiling looked up and Syaoran froze when he saw her tears, "The Elders announced a news just now."

"A bad news?"

She shook her head and beamed at Syaoran lovingly, "No-We are going to get married!"

"What!?" Both Syaoran and Yelan exclaimed and shot to their feet.

"Aren't you happy, Syaoran?"

"Obviously not," Syaoran snapped and realized that he was being rude, so he quickly made amends. "I was just too surprised."

"Are you really doing just that?" Yelan asked.

Syaoran thought about Sakura and sighed. I should really forget this lady. "Yes Mother, I'll be marrying Meiling."

Yelan gaped and promptly fainted. She really hoped that Syaoran's bride would be Sakura. She knew Sakura was the perfect girl for him and yet. something always went wrong.

------------------------------------------------

Now back in Tomoeda, Japan...

Sakura looked normal to everyone else except her brother, Touya. He noticed her peculiar behaviour towards everyone else and frowned. What has gotten into her?

"Hey Sakura! Li Syaoran is getting married," Touya tested.

"Why do you tell me that for? I do not know this person," Sakura replied and went back to talking to her friends.

Hands grabbed her shoulders so tightly that made Sakura gasped in surprise before she was turned around. "Onii-chan!" Sakura pouted.

"What is happening to you, Sakura?"

"What's what?"

"Don't you remember him?" Touya asked fiercely.

"Who?"

"Li Syaoran. The person you love so dearly!"

Sakura was silent was a few moments before she looked down and answered, her voice full of confusion, "I don't remember him. Do I know him that well? Why can't I remember him and why can't all of you leave me alone?"

Touya let go of his sister and watched as she excused herself from her friends before running up to her room to seek safety. He sighed, then turned back to her friends for a minor discussion.
