Chapter Four: Feelings Resurfaced

"Hey guys did you hear?" Madison asked walking up to her group of friends. "This coming Friday is the beginning of the school year dance!"

"Really! Cool, our first dance!" Chelsea shouted.

"I don't think that I really want to go," Rita replied.

"Oh come on Rita it'll be fun," Nikki said.

"But what about getting dates?" Rita asked.

"Well if you want to we could all just dance together," Madison reasoned.

"Yeah I think that'll be much more fun," Nikki agreed.

"Great idea Madison," Chelsea agreed.

"How does that sound?" Madison asked Rita.

Rita thought for a moment, then smiled, "Sounds like fun."

"How about you Sakura?" Chelsea questioned. "Hello Earth to Sakura, come in!" Chelsea yelled waving her hand in front of Sakura's face.

"Yes?" Sakura asked.

"What do you think about our plan for the dance?" Chelsea asked annoyed.

"Um sorry I wasn't listening," Sakura laughed.

"Sakura is everything alright?" Rita inquired with concern.

"Yeah I mean you have been dazed out for a couple of days," Nikki added.

Chelsea scoffed, "Couple of days! Sakura has been acting like this since the second day of school! Now spill, what's wrong?"

"Um it's nothing really," Sakura assured.

Madison touched Sakura's arm, "Sakura you can tell us."

Sakura waved her arms, "Really it's nothing!"

Chelsea studied Sakura's face carefully and looked in Sakura's eyes. " I know what it is," Chelsea announced crossing her arms.

"What?" everyone asked.

"It's," Chelsea paused, "about a boy."

"No!" Nikki exclaimed.

"I'm afraid so," Chelsea shook her head. "Oh sorry bye I gotta go, there's Zachary." Chelsea ran to the front gate calling, "Zachary!"

"Is she right?" Madison questioned Sakura.

Nikki gasped, "I know who it is!"

"Who is it Nikki?" Rita asked.

"Sakura," Nikki asked, "is it Li Showran, the kid from our elementary class that left about three years ago?"

Sakura didn't respond. She just became even more sad. Her eyes filled with pain and hurt and tears welled up in them. She sobbed and ran to the bathrooms.

"Sakura wait!" Nikki shouted afraid that she would be mad at her for bringing it up.

"Maybe we should let her be alone for a little while," Rita suggested. "Sakura," Madison called running after her best friend.

Sakura ran and wiped at her tears. She bumped into someone and heard a familiar friendly voice. "Sakura what's wrong?" questioned Meilin.

Sakura pushed Meilin aside and kept running for the bathrooms. Meilin was confused. She saw Madison running after Sakura so she stopped her, "What's going on?"

"I don't know, she just took off, but I have the feeling this has something to do with Li," Madison hurried and ran into the bathroom, Meilin following close behind.

When they walked in no one else was there. They heard sniffling coming from one of the stalls. "Sakura?" Madison asked gently.

"Please I want to be alone," She called from the inside of the second stall. She sniffed again and blew her nose.

"Sakura tell us what's wrong," Meilin demanded.

"No," Sakura sniffed, "You wouldn't understand."

"Sakura, we understand. We understand this has to do something about Li," Madison reasoned trying to get Sakura to come out.

The stall door opened. Sakura looked awfully. Her eyes were red from crying and so was her nose and her mascara was running from her tears. "I look awful don't I?"

"No," Meilin lied.

Sakura looked in the mirror, "You're lying," Sakura said smiling a little.

"Tell us what's wrong," Madison urged patting Sakura on the back.

"Li," She sobbed, "He doesn't talk [sniffle] to me any- [breath] more," Sakura managed.

"Why that as-" Meilin started.

"No," Sakura shouted, "Don't call him that!" She pushed both of them away and washed her face in the sink.

"Where is Li. If I find him I'll kill him!" Meilin stated.

"No, please don't do anything to him," Sakura begged.

"Fine I won't, but I'm still going to yell at him," Meilin assured placing her arms on her hips.

Sakura grabbed a napkin and wiped her face. "No it's alright," Sakura said.

"Sakura," Madison said to her friend's back, "You don't have to keep doing this."

"What is that suppose to mean?" Meilin asked Madison.

Madison sigh, "Last, last year when you and Li left Sakura cried because she never got to tell him how she felt. She was sad for days and still didn't get over that. I guess now she thought that she and Li would have another chance, but Li's avoiding her."

Meilin thought about what Madison had just said and spoke, "Li cried too."

Sakura turned around. "He did?"

Meilin nodded, "Although he won't admit it, he did. In fact was so melancholy that even his mom did something about it. His studies started to fall and since Li wouldn't say anything about why, she asked me what was wrong and I told her about you. She's the one who sent us back to Japan to find you and fix this problem, but we only have up to a certain date before we have to go back. If Li doesn't fix his problems then his mom will order him to give up on you and he has to otherwise he will fail and that’s not something Li is used to."

"So this is all my fault," Sakura pouted and a single teardrop fell down and landed on the ground.

"No it's both your faults for not telling each other," Meilin shouted.

"Now my only question is, why is Li Showran avoiding the woman of his dreams?" Madison questioned.

Sakura's body stiffened from head to toe.

"Sakura, do you know?" Madison asked.

"No I don't," Sakura answered reaching for the spot where Li had kissed her that night.

The bell rang out.

"Look Sakura we have to go to class," Meilin explained, "if you go to class I promise that everything will be fixed."

Sakura didn't say anything all she did was hug Meilin and Madison and walk straight to her math class.

"Li, wait up!" Meilin shouted.

"What is it Meilin," Li asked annoyed.

"Do you have a date for the dance yet?" Meilin questioned.

"Look if you want me to go with you don't even dream about it because-" Li started.

"No not for you to go with me, I'm talking about you asking Sakura to go to the dance," Meilin explained.

Li didn't answer.

"Li Showran you have better give me a good reason as to why Sakura is upset with you because if I see her cry one more time I'm going to make you wish you were never born!" Meilin threatened.

"Look Meilin it's none of your business," Li replied.

"Sakura Avalon crying because you are avoiding her, yes I do think that's my business!" Meilin shouted back.

"Li Showran tell me NOW!" Meilin demanded.

Li explained to Meilin about the kiss and that he was afraid that Sakura would avoid him for the rest of her life as long as they both were living.

"That's it!" Meilin said in frustration.

Li nodded.

"Li let me tell you something about Sakura," Meilin then explained about how Sakura cried when they left after fifth grade. Li Showran felt so awful that he had made Sakura cry that he felt like punching himself.

"Hey squirt, you got something in the mail from Li," Tori greeted his younger sister.

"Where is it?" Sakura demanded.

"On the table," Tori answered.

Sakura grabbed the letter and ran upstairs to open it in the safety of her room. Tori smiled and picked up the phone. He dialed a number and the phone was answered in one ring, "Hello?"

"She's got the letter, call in about five minutes," Tori ordered.

"Okay," The voice answered, "Oh and Tori, thanks."

"I'm just doing this for my sister," Tori responded trying to make it seem like he wasn't just being nice.

Sakura stared and admired the pretty pink envelope before opening it up. The letter said:

Dear Sakura,
I'm sorry for making you cry. Meilin told me everything, so to make it up for you I invite you to be my date for the upcoming school dance. If you would like to be my date please tell me as soon as possible.

Love, Li Showran

Sakura hugged the letter knowing that it had been so close to Li. She picked up the phone and thought. But what if Li has to go back again?

The phone rang in Sakura's hand. "Ah!" she screamed and dropped it on her bed.

"Hey squirt could you answer that!" Tori called up the stairs.

"Hello?" Sakura answered.

"Hey Sakura," Li greeted back.

"Um," Sakura mumbled something.

"Did you get my letter?" Li asked even if he knew the answer.

Sakura nodded. Then she remembered that he was on the phone and spoke, "Yeah I did."

"So..." Li questioned.

"So um... yeah I would love to go with you," Sakura replied. "Great I'll pick you up six on Friday," Li answered and then added, "Thanks Sakura," before hanging up the phone.

"Yeah," Sakura hung up the phone and just sat down on her bed thinking.

"So who was it squirt?" Tori asked walking into her room.

"It was Li," She answered still in shock at the turn of events. "What did he want?" Tori asked.

"He wanted to know if I would go to the dance this Friday with him," Sakura replied.

"You don't sound too happy," Tori commented.

"Happy?" Sakura questioned. She jumped up and down, "I'm ecstatic!"

Tori smiled happy to see how glad Sakura was.

"Madison!" Sakura yelled after dialing the number.

"You sound happy Sakura, what's going on?" Madison questioned.

"Li just asked me to go to the dance with him!" Sakura shouted.

"Wow Sakura you're so lucky!" Madison played along.

"What will I wear?" Sakura inquired.

"Leave that to me," Madison commanded.
