The night of the dance I scowled into the mirror and tried one more time to make my hair lay flat (it still wouldn't). Then I headed out.

I walked because I didn't want to tell Wei where I was going. I think he knew anyway; he gave me a knowing look as I left.

When I saw Sakura my brain nearly shut down with awe. My mouth dropped open and I froze.

She was beautiful any old day in her school uniform, but this— this was beyond beauty. Daidouji had finally happened upon a good dress design. Excuse me, a wonderful dress.

It was a green color the exact shade of her eyes, with no straps but a decent hemline. She was even wearing some makeup, also probably courtesy of Daidouji.

"Syaoran-kun, what do you think?" she said to me. "Do I look okay?"

"Yes, Li-kun, does she?" Hiiragizawa said teasingly as he materialized at my side.

How did he do that? I could generally sense anyone nearby, and I could hear a twig snap at a 100 yards. Yet, he always managed to sneak up on me.

I turned and glared.

"Syaoran-kun?" Sakura said with a quiver in her voice. "I don't look bad, do I?"

"No! No, of course not!" I returned quickly. "You look beautiful."

"That's so sweet!" she said with a grin, and threw her arms around me.

"That's so kawaii!" Daidouji yelled. My heart hit my shoes again.

Sakura broke away from me, sweatdropping.

"Tomoyo-chan, must you--?"

"Miss Daidouji-san, you look lovely. However, the camera on your shoulder ruins the effect. 'All of life's a stage' does not quite apply here," Hiiragizawa said, a glint of mischief in his eyes.

"It's 'all the world's a stage,'" I said to Hiiragizawa, and then to Daidouji, "put the camera away before you have to pick pieces off the sidewalk."

These statements succeeded in surprising both of them. I grabbed Sakura's hand.

"Let's go in. Don't worry about them, they'll follow."

And we went in. Sakura wasn't sure what had happened with the 'demon pair' (my words for them), but she didn't ask any questions.
