Six

I was about to return to Sakura when I felt a sudden flare of magic. She was in trouble!

In an instant I was back on the floor. My quick eyes scanned the crowd to no avail. There was no amazingly beautiful girl or pink aura among the other students.

So I pushed through the crowd to the door.

Outside, there was no one about. But I heard a scream, from somewhere behind the school. I retrieved my sword and took off around the corner.

The sight that met my eyes was horrifying. There was some sort of monster—dog—beast attacking Sakura. She had the Shield up, but it wasn't holding very well.

"Syaoran-kun!" she yelled upon seeing me. "Help!!!"

I drew out one of my spell wards.

"Element: lightning!"

The lightning played around the beast, not doing much to hurt it, but certainly getting its attention. I wanted it away from Sakura.

It growled and paced toward me.

"That's it, come on…"

The sound of my voice seemed to anger it. It growled again and barreled forward in attack.

I met its considerably—large teeth with my blade, and we began a deadly combative dance, neither willing to show our back to the other.

It attacked suddenly, but I dodged and all it got was the sleeve of my jacket and a small flesh wound. I hit it over the head with the flat of my blade as it blew past.

Sakura ran forward ready to help, with staff in hand.

"Sakura-chan! No! Get back!" I said without taking my eyes off the beast.

"But, Syaoran-kun—"

The beast barreled forward again. I dodged it easily and turned in a smooth motion. It was going for Sakura!

"Sakura!" I yelled. Somehow, though to this day I don't know how, I got in front of her before the monster struck.

It got a good piece of me this time, but I wouldn't move, wouldn't let it attack Sakura…

She thought very quickly and used a card.

"Good. That's right, Sakura-chan!" I said vaguely before the beast's paw came up and darkness overcame me.
