Shawn's Spider-Man RANT!

Before you continue, a little explaining is in order. First of all, Shawn is a Spider-Man freak... I think I've already mentioned that somewhere else on this site, and second, Shawn is a Spider-Man freak that can explain his ass off about the subject.

What you are about to read is an actual response Shawn sent to some poor bastard who wrote a bad review for Spider-Man the movie. So Shawn, in true geek form, felt threatened and naturally had to defend himself and the movie.

I'm replying to your Spider-man movie review. And I have to say you don't know a thing about movies... you are just a comic geek. Which isnt usually a bad thing, but don't critique something unless you know everything about it. Watch more movies and you will think again about what you wrote.

You can't have too many cameos in a superhero movie. Hell... I wanted a glimpse of Eddie Brock but it didnt bother me. Having too many characters in a movie takes away from the main points of a story. And, by the way, just so you know, the movie company that made Spider-man doesn't have the rights to the Kingpin character. The one that has Daredevil does 'cause Kingpin was a major character in the Daredevil comics, not in the Spider-man comics. Sure he was in the Spider-man comics but he wasn't that big... not nearly as big as in DD. When I first heard about the changes that were happening to Spider-man, I was worried that they would royally fuck him up. You know... giving him organic web-shooters and such. But think about how much time would be wasted if he were to make something like that, not to mention how much it would cost him to make. He made his own costume to go wrestle, if you didn't notice. You think he had the money to fashion a web shooter? I don't think so.

Remember, this is a comic book adaptation movie, not a comic book movie. If it were a comic book movie, people who weren't into comics would be lost in the first 10 minutes. In a comic book adaptation certain things have to change to make it work as a movie as well as stick with the main parts of the comic. And when you put a comic on screen you have to explain out things for the non-comic book fans. Like even Stan Lee said it himself that when he created the Hulk and he was bombarded with "gamma rays" that he didnt even know what a gamma ray was, it just sounded cool. And how corny would it have been for Spider-man, after he was bitten, to go write out a formula that he had stuck in head and then realize that this is a formula to make webbing, and then the knowledge to make web-shooters to utilize the formula also pops into his head... and you expect him to be able to make all this from this sudden "new knowledge" when he didn't even have money to make a friggin' costume in the first place. Sam Raimi knew all this and took a step to give Spider-man organic web-shooters and save at least an hour that would have taken place just to do all this nonsense. You have to give Sam props for having the balls to do it.

You couldn't have had the Gwen Stacy story in the movie because it would have added too many other characters into the movie... and remember too many characters drags the movie out. Sam integrated enough of Gwen into Mary Jane and made it work. Ok, now you got me ranting, this isn't good. Just let me say that even though Gwen Stacy's biggest part was her death and even though her death gave Spider-man some serious issues about his responsibilities, Mary Jane had the bigger impact on his life. If youre going to make a movie about a person's life you have to use supporting characters who have the biggest impact on the main person, especially the villains. Green Goblin is definitely one, then Doc Ock because he was the first to actually beat Spider-man. Harry Osborn as Green Goblin because of the whole "best friends as closest enemies" type of thing, and then we have Venom, who was superior to Spider-man in almost every way. Those are the biggest impacts and those are the best stories.

What do you mean you don't think that Green Goblin should have died? Name a good comic book adaptation that didn't do it. Batman did it. The Crow, Blade, and even Judge Dredd did it. If the movie didnt kill them off, the writer had plans for them in the sequel... or they are too big of a character to kill off. The movie was ended very nicely with plenty of choices for sequels such as Harry Osborn coming back as the next Green Goblin, (but if they are smart they will wait and do that story in the third or fourth one. If they do that in the second one "The Amazing Spider-man," you're just gonna have another The Crow: City of Angels where the sequel just tries to recreate the original. And if I hear another person ask me if Harry Osborn will be the Hobgoblin in the next one, I'm gonna have to shoot them or myself in the head. Mary Jane could possibly get together with Peter in this sequel but not until the end. There are endless possibilities. Just keep your mind open and watch more movies, and by the time the "Amazing Spider-man" comes out you will feel a little better... and hopefully more educated.

And I dont mean to yell at you, but don't critque a comic book adaptation movie until you know about movies as well as the comic, ok? Its just very annoying to hear an argument from a person who only know half about what the hell they are talking about, you know? Just always remember these famous Spider-man words and you will be ok... "Go Web! Fly! Up, up and way, web! Shazam! Go! Go! Go web Go!"
