MATT'S TOP TEN:
Duos On Screen.

This one was fun at first but then became difficult as I kept coming up with more and more duos. Now, this list is based on my definition of duo on screen and that is: 2 people who play off each other in ALL scenes of the movie and one needs the other one. And they have to be of the same sex. A male and female is not a duo, they are a couple. You'll see examples of this. Before I start, I just want to say that you will not see duos such as Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy and people like that. I love them and all of their movies but they are always the same character with different names. They were just being themselves and not characters in a movie. Another thing you will see on this list is the fact that in most of these duos, the are 2 completely different characters and shouldn't even be in the same room together, let alone in the same movie. So here we go:

  1. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.....Lethal Weapon 1-4
  2. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey.....Wayne's World 1 & 2
  3. Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith.....View Askew movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, & Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
  4. Paul Newman and Robert Redford.....Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
  5. Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd.....Trading Places
  6. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.....Blues Brothers
  7. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton.....Fight Club
  8. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.....Back to the Future Trilogy
  9. Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon.....Thelma & Louise
  10. Keeanu Reeves and Alex Winter.....Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Han Solo and Chewie
Cheech and Chong

And now, The Jester explains:

10. Bill and Ted.
Everytime you watch these movies now, or back then, it will make you laugh. And to think, the long hair dude was "The One" while the short hair dude was....well, nothing.

9. Thelma and Louise.
The only female presence on this list. These 2 are perfect together and one couldn't be without the other one. Although it may sound sick, you were glad they fell to their death. It was a sign of freedom.

8. Doc and Marty.
What can I say? The young punk hotheaded kid guided by the older wiser man. But sometimes, the kid needed to guide the old man and that is something that is rarely seen and that is what made it so great.

7. Jack and Tyler.
Now while these 2 did not need each other acting wise, they needed each other storyline wise (of course). These 2 played off each other so well and I still love to watch that movie.

6. Jake and Elwood.
These 2 are pretty much the same character, one short and fat and the other tall and skinny. But still, one of the greatest duos of all time and damn, those suits are pimp!

5. Billy Ray and Louis.
Eddie has had other partners (Owen Wilson, Nick Nolte and Robert DeNiro) but this was the best one to be paired up against. They both played off each other's comic ability and had a great movie, one of the funniest movie to this day for me.

4. Butch and Sundance.
The oldest duo on the list. These 2 actors also played off each other well and have had other movies that they paired off but nothing beats Butch and Sundance. In the middle of a very serious story, they managed to be funny and have some fun.

3. Jay and Silent Bob.
Come on!!! Need I say more?! One never says anything and the other one can't shut up. Who would have ever thought this would work? But again, like everyone on this list, one can't survive without the other and they are collectively one character.

2. Wayne and Garth.
One is an out going partier and the other is a shy timid follower but they work together and always make for a good laugh, whether they are in the movies or on TV.

1. Riggs and Murtah.
This is what every buddy cop film has tried to be since the first LW in 1987. Gibson with the funny wacky lines and Glover being there to either take it in the face or come back with one of his own. This is the modern verison of the classic straight man/funny man in a serious group of movies. Even adding a new character with every movie didn't slow down the timing that these 2 have and I don't think we will see 2 other people have the type of chemistry that they had. And these characters were strong enough to make it on their own but thankfully, they were put together and made movie history.

Now I am going to touch on a subject that is very close to me. Maybe you're wondering why isn't Batman and Robin on this list? Well, they sucked it big time in 2 pretty bad movies and weren't a good duo at all. Now you know me and my history with the Bat and I know all that can be known about the Bat and if they were better actors acting in a better script, I would put them at number 1 without even thinking twice. But Chris O'Donnell was a horrible Robin playing off less than stellar Batmen (b/c they weren't Michael Keaton). Greatest duo of the comic universe? In the top 2 or 3, maybe even number 1. Greatest duo of movies? Not even close.

The Jester has spoken. Until next time kiddies....
