Because this is the first of the "best films" lists to be put up, I'm going to explain that, to me, there are 2 different "best films" lists that a person could have. A list of Best Films would be the best films that individual has ever seen. Then there's a list of Favorite Films, which may not be the best films that individual has seen, but they are films that for some reason or another stuck with that person. Matt somehow managed to merge both of these together, because not only are these great films in the history of film, but they are also his favorites, and he watches them over and over again.
Matt's (The Jester) top ten movies:
And now, The Jester's explanations:
Starting at 10, Field of Dreams is just one of the
best movies to make you feel good. Especially if you
love baseball. The speech that James Earl Jones makes
about baseball at the end still gives me chills and it
is the only time I saw my dad cry at the end of the
movie.
9. Shawshank Redemption is another feel good movie.
Not the whole thing, but just the last 10 seconds just
makes you smile. This unfortunatly came out in 1994,
same year as Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump so it was
not gonna win anything but it did in my mind.
8. Unforgiven is the best western I have ever seen.
Very realistic b/c six shooters actually HAVE six
shots and everyone was bad, no good people in the wild
west.
7 and 6. Godfather I and II The reason I put GF II
above GF I is b/c it was the end of the overall story
and the end of a story is better than the middle of a
story. So that is why I put them in that
order.....but together, one of the greatest stories
ever told.
5. JFK used to be my all time number one fav b/c I am
obsessed with the JFK assassanation. But as time went
on, it kept getting lower and lower on my list until
one day I said stop and it just stayed at no. 5. Not
necessarily the best Oliver Stone movie but it is my
favorite.
4. Pulp Fiction was also a one time no. 1 fav but
again as time went on, it went down futher the list.
But this movie is just too damn good to be put futher
down the list. Great script, great performances, great
movie. And it has, in my opinion, the greatest 90s
performance of all time, Samuel L. Jackson. Unreal.
These last two movies were bummed out b/c I finally
saw the top 3 movies again and again and i started to
appreciate them more and more......
3. The Silence of the Lambs is the best thiller of
all time. Every movie that comes out after it is just
trying to be it (Copycat, Instinct, Just Cause, etc.)
and while those are not bad movie, in fact they are
pretty good, they aren't Lambs. Not even close. And it
has one of the most chilling performances ever,
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter.....nuff said.
2. The Usual Suspects is the cleverest movie of all
time. I never have felt dumb after a movie, even after
Memento, but after this movie in 1995, I came out of
the theater with my dad and both of us were just out
of our mind. The greatest twist ending ever and if you
haven't seen it, then just die already, no need for
your kind on this earth. Which brings me to.....
1. Goodfellas is the best movie I have ever seen.
Nothing has beaten it, and nothing will ever come
close to beating it. One day it just hit me to watch
it and when I did, it hit me that this was the best
movie I have ever seen. It's gonna take a big fuck
all great movie to knock this one off the top and it
will stay constant until that one movie knocks it off
and even Gangs of New York (also directed my Martin
Scorsese) didn't come close to knock the king of The
Jester's movies of the top of the mountain. Long ive
the king.
Well there you go. The Jester's top ten movies of all
time. Now I know I'm being unfair to old classics such
as Psycho, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gone with the
WInd and so on but this is my list, the rest of you
can go fuck off a mountain.
Thank you, The Jester has
spoken.
