If you are hiking the AT:
It is about 6 miles one-way from Hot Springs, NC. Parking is available at the USFS office in Hot Springs.
From the USFS district office in Hot Springs, NC hike north on the AT. Follow the white blazes down the sidewalk. Cross Spring creek on a samll bridge and also cross the French Broad River. Turn right as the trail follows Silvermine Creek Road. The trail will parallel the river passing by the NOC. You will begin the climb up to Lover's Leap on switchbacks. There will be an overlook up here and Lover's Leap Rock. Continue on the AT approximately 4 more miles to Tanyard Gap. Cross US 25/70 and follow the white blazes into the woods.
Up 17 legs sawed off of ladies to a sign written in invisible ink. Lucky 7 steps more and the log on the left will levitate to reveal the Magic Rabbit Letterbox.
If you are driving:
It is about a 10 or 15 minute drive-by from US 25/70.
From Hot Springs, go east on 25/70 3.7 miles to Tanyard Gap. Turn left at the first road past the gap, just after passing underneath the bridge. Turn left at the intersection and go to the bridge. Parking is available here.
