The stamp celebrates the Japanese Lantern in the oldest part of the Garden.
Clues: Pick up a map at the Information Kiosk. This will help you find the landmarks that I will mention.
Walk past the Bamboo Grove and the Necklace of Ponds to the Waterfall. Follow the stepping stones over the stream at the waterfall to the Memorial Stone.
Sit on the bench here and enjoy the sound of falling water and the cool breezes. The Memorial Stone is directly in front of you. To the left of the Memorial stone at the junction of the paths is a large “squarish stone”. The letterbox is under the lefthand corner of this stone.
This park is very very manicured and I don’t know how long this box will last before the gardeners find it. Also this area of the park is very popular. The stepping stones over the stream provide a lovely place for taking photos of the waterfall. Please be very discreet when hunting for this box and also respect the plantings around the stones! Do not tear away foliage or dig! The box is simply wedged underneath the stone.
