Clues:
Schmitz Squirrel (1):
Alive and well as of 9/5/08
To the left of the community center is the entrance to the park. Walk along the paved road. You will pass underneath an overpass. At the Y bear right, go past a rock commemorating the bicentennial planting of fir trees.
You’ll come to a fork in the path, take the left fork downwards. You will come to a clearing with a 4-way intersection. On your left is a large Cedar Tree. In the back of the tree at its base is a cubby hole with the Schmitz Park Squirrel Letterbox inside!
Please be discreet. Many people like to sit in this intersection and draw, read, or just listen to the creek.
Schmitz Creek (2):
alive and well as of 5/11/05
Continue on the path just to the right of the Large Cedar
Tree...(on your left as you entered the clearing)
When this path forks, take the left fork.
Just ahead is a Large Stump take approximately 14 steps past the stump and on your left you will be at the end of a large log that is parallel to the path. It looks like it is sliding down the hill a bit. Underneath the end of this log
is your 2nd Letterbox!
Hurrah! Just continue to follow this path. You will see some stairs on your left. Go down them and across the creek. This path will return you under the overpass to Stevens St. and your car.
Along the Beach there are lovely views of the Olympics and Downtown Seattle and there are lots of places to eat
