Cougar Mountain Regional Park
To reach the Red Town Trailhead:
From I-90 Take exit 13 and drive south up the hill on Lakemont Blvd. Look for the gravel entrance to the Red Town Trailhead on the left side of the road.

Be sure to pick up a trail map at the beginning of the trail! I planted some other letterboxes in this park. The Halloween Series and the Cougar Mountain Letterbox. There are also some Mysterious Letterboxes in the area!

To Find the Shy Bear Letterbox: Proceed to the Far Country Lookout. It is approximately 2.5 miles from the Red Town Trailhead. The quickest route is to take The Red Town Trail to the Indian Trail to the Far Country Trail. There is a little shortcut to the lookout point and I recommend taking it. It takes you right to the viewpoint where you can rest on a bench. Continue around the trail to the sign post for the Shy Bear Trail. Follow the Shy Bear Trail. You will have to pass a sign saying NO HORSES, take 60 steps down the trail. There will be 2 cedar trees at approximately 150 degrees. The Shy Bear Letterbox is hiding at the base of these two trees.

The trail is flat most of the way...you only have to climb some switchbacks for the last .3 mile.
