Ellicott Creek Bike Path

The Ellicott Creek Bike Path follows along and crosses Ellicott Creek from North Forest Road to Ellicott Creek Park. The trial is well maintained and also patrolled by police on bikes. The trail itself is 10 foot wide asphalt. It is run by the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation. The trail runs through the towns of Tonawanda and Amherst and is also on the University at Buffalo property.

The trail is close to 5 miles long and has several rest areas along the way. There are no restrooms however. There are restrooms at Ellicott Creek Park. The trail is popular and may be crowded at times, but it is still a pleasant path. The trail is used for biking, walking and rollerbladeing.

Directions:

The eastern end starts at a parking area on North Forest Road just north of Maple Road, next to the Audubon Golf Course. The western end starts across the road from Ellicott Creek park on Niagara Falls Blvd.

There is also an entrance to the bike trail at the JJ Audubon Parkway bridge over LaSalle, between Lee Road and Frontier Road.

Clues:

At the underpass closest to the Skinnersville Cemetery, look for the heart painted underneath the bridge. Directly opposite the heart on the other side of the bike path look under a flat stone against the bridge support for the Buffalo Wings Letterbox.

Please use caution when hunting for this letterbox. Unfortunately this bike path has been the site of several rapes and one murder. The last incident was in 1994, but you should always use caution when exercising alone along a public pathway. You can read more about the incidents along this bike path here: The Linda Yalem murder.

I have never had a problem or been afraid to travel on this bike path. Use common sense. Travel with a friend. Go during daylight hours. Be aware of your surroundings.

Please be discreet and replace everything hidden as you found it or better. Read the Waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
