THE ICELAND TANGO becomes THE MIDNIGHT BLUES

The ISU Ice Dancing Technical Committee has been on the look-out for a new ice dance for quite a while.
In Spring 1998 Courtney Jones contacted Margaret Brooks, member of the CIPA and CEPA (World and European Technical commmittees of the Federation Internationale de Roller Skating: FIRS) and she sent a VIDEO including a ROLLER Senior Compulsory Dance called: THE ICELAND TANGO.
Mr. JONES sent this tape to ANN SHAW in Toronto,(member of the ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee). She in turn contacted ROY and SUE BRADSHAW who immediately went to work with it.Their son MARK BRADSHAW and his partner CHRISTINE FULLER were filmed doing the first ICE version of THE ICELAND TANGO.
MARK and CHRISTINE showed this dance during the NEBELHORN TROPHY in Obertsdorf in 1999.
The ISU IDTC advised the BRADSHAWS to continue developping this ICE DANCE version.
MARK BRADSHAW and JULIE MACDONALD started immediately experimenting with new step VARIATIONS.
Ultimately in JUNE 2000 in Toronto the dance was shown to the ISU Ice Dancing Technical Committee including Mr. ALEXANDER GORSHKOV,Chairman, COURTNEY JONES and ANN SHAW : it was ACCEPTED!
During the whole of the 2000/2001 season the 3 BRADSHAWS, JULIE MACDONALD and ANN SHAW gave it their best shot and PERFECTED the dance.
It was on ALEXANDER GORSHKOV'S initiative that the name
was changed to THE MIDNIGHT BLUES.

This dance was first performed during the World Championships in Vancouver in the presence of coaches, judges, and skaters. An ISU TRAINING VIDEO might be made available at a later date.
THE MIDNIGHT BLUES will be proposed at the ISU CONGRESS in Nagano in JUNE 2002 with the intention of introducing it as an ISU SENIOR COMPULSORY DANCE as of season 2002/2003.

RHYTHM BLUES: according to USFSA also originally a
ROLLER DANCE!
