hip-hop songs. This is just a quick page I made because I wanted to
share all the original samples I have found. Plus itís all
about the audio. If you have any comments, suggestions or original

"One Side Away" EP
Produced by myself, free
preview mp3's here
Thelma
Houston / Don't Leave Me This Way
Killah
Priest / Tai Chi
The
opening moaning of Thelma Houston is used as the backdrop for KP's
Tai Chi song. It was produced by 4th disciple and either
speeded up or pitched up. The heavily sampled Get Out of My Life
Woman drum break was also used.
Screamin
Jay Hawkins / I
Put A Spell On You
Notorious
B.I.G. / Kick in the Door, M-Boogie ft. Irascience / On Deadly Ground
The
beginning horns of this song are used by Premier and M-Boogie.
Suprisingly Premier didnít chop his sample up at all, just
slowed it down a little and added a bell-sounding sample. M-Boogie
didn't take the whole loop, just chopped up the horns more.
Monk
Higgins / Little
Green Apples
Gangstarr
/ Code of the Streets
Premier
takes the opening part of Monk Higgins song, speeds it up and ends up
with Code of the Streets, off the dope album Hard to Earn. One of my
favorite samples.
Diana
Ross / Iím
Coming Out
Notorious
B.I.G. / Mo Money Mo Problems
Well
all the samples I find that Puff has used are for the most part
untouched, maybe a little something added here and there. No attempt
to flip up the sample here, but what do you expect from Puff.
Cal
Tjader / Django
Davina
feat. Raekwon / So Good
Guru
/ Lifesaver
Dope
vibraphone and bass sample. Slowed down and changed a little on the
Guru song, which is off Jazzmatazz Volume 2.
Ohio
Players / Sweet
Sticky Thing
Gangstarr
/ Doe in Advance
This
sample is used on an old Gangstarr b-side. The sample just pops out
of nowhere, Premier snatched up the measure and looped it for Doe in
Advance. *I looped the sample used a couple times to make it easier
to hear
Francis
Lai / A Man and A Woman
Nas
/ Fetus (Belly Button Window)
I
came upon this sample while listening to a box of records from my
aunt. It's off a soundtrack for a French film called "Un Homme Et Une
Femme" which translates to A Man and A Woman. The Trackmasters sped
up this sample and added some other elements to it, not the usual
blatant jack.
McFadden
& Whitehead / Ainít No Stoppin Us Now
Biz
Markie / Let Me Turn You On
A
funky song used by Biz for his party joint. No fancy production here
but a dope bassline.
Heath
Brothers / Smilin
Billy Suite
Nas
/ One Love
Great
sample used by Q-Tip for the classic Nas song, "One Love." Sounds
pretty much like Q-Tip just ripped the sample and added some drums
but still an extremely hot sample. *Borrowed from Turntablelab, check out funk in the trunk
for a lot of dope break records and samples.*
DJ
U Roy / Tom
Drunk
Reflection
Eternal / Fortified Live
This
is from a reggae DJ, DJ U Roy. I thought Hi-Tek added those pianos in
by himself but they are part of the original sample. More dopeness.
*Borrowed from Turntablelab, check out funk in the trunk
for a lot of dope break records and samples.*
Bob
James / Take
Me to the Mardi Gras
Run
DMC / Peter Piper
This
sample is very recognizable, used by Run D.M.C. for their classic
Peter Piper. I highly recommend Bob James album One, it is filled
with hip hop samples and dope instrumentals.
Ennio
Morricone / Uccellaci
E Uccellini
EPMD
/ Symphony 2000
I
just ran across this sample right now, listening to an Ennio
Morricone Anthology. Sermon just took the violin and added his own
bass samples with a quick drum fill at the end of it and made
Symphony 2000, pretty dope.
Emotions
/ If
You Think It ( You May as Well Do It )
Raekwon
/ Verbal Intercourse
RZA
took the very beginning of this Emotions song and created one of the
dopest songs on Raekwons album, as well as a perfect backdrop for one
of Nas's best verses.
Emotions
/ Blind
Alley
Big
Daddy Kane / Ainít No Half Steppin
Bedroom
Wizard ft. Don Caban, LL Cool J, AMG, etc.
One
of the nicest piano loops that has been sampled in my opinion. BDK
used the first part of the piano loop and the Bedroom Wizard used the
later part of the loop for his no Half Steppin remake.
David
Porter / The
Masquerade Is Over
GZA
/ Duel of the Iron Mic
Nice
sample RZA picked up. Looping the first piano part then adding in the
piano breakdown from the song, the sample also sounds a little
speeded up on the GZA song.
Marvin
Gaye / Trouble
Man Theme
Group
Home / Take It In Life
I
found this one listening to my dadsí records, totally came out
of nowhere. I recognized the horns then the synthesizer part came in.
Agallah did a good job of working with the sample instead of just
jacking it as well as adding a speech and another sound into the
beat.
Rolling
Stones / Monkey
Man
Mr.
Lif / Madness In A Cup
This
piano intro of Monkey Man made up the whole Madness beat. Great
sample, bass, keys and a nice dark feel to it, no wonder Mr. Lif used
it.
Sting
/ Shape
Of My Heart
Nas
/ The Message
This
Sting song is where Trackmasters got the main sample for the best
song off of It Was Written in my opinion. But they did add some extra
guitars and cuts from Illmatic instead of jacking it outright.
Charmells
/ Iíll
Never Grow Old
Wu-Tang
Clan / C.R.E.A.M.
Iíve
been wondering where RZA got the beat for C.R.E.A.M and here it is.
One of the classic piano loops used for a track, RZA just looped the
first part and also loops part of the vocals for another part of the
track. Seems like the perfect hip hop sample, piano, nice bass and
drums.
Bernard
Hermann / Psycho
Theme
Busta
Rhymes / Gimme Some More
I
heard this one while sitting through my Film Music class, I wasn't
expecting it and it came out of nowhere, I love how samples do that.
After a long ass, boring skit the string loop arrives slowed down a
little. The bouncy bassline and drums come in and another Busta party
joint is born.
Yes
/ Survival
Jeru
the Damaja / Seinfeld
My
brother was playing his best of Yes CD and I heard this intro to
Survival. Jeru takes the wah guitar and loops it, truncating it
before the drum crash comes in. He slowed it down just slightly,
added drums, changing up with a piano later on and a slow orchestral
fade in on the 6th bar. Nice sample, too bad this song was
the only one I liked off of Jeruís new LP.
Three
Dog Night / Old
Fashioned Love Song
Nine
/ Lyiní King
This
sample plays a main part in this single off of Nineís
sophomore album Cloud Nine. Not much altering done to the sample but
it blended into the piano sample nicely.
The
King and I / Theme
Insight
feat. Mr. Lif / Universal
I
found this one going through my relatives musical records. I was
gonna use it for one of my own beats when I first heard it but then
recognized it. This isnít the exact same version used for
Insightís song but has the same melody and sound to it, with
some different instruments. Insight added a nice bass intro and drums
to compliment the slowed sample.
Wes
Montgomery / Yesterday
Group
Home / Intro
Premier
uses this Wes Montgomery remake of the Beatles "Yesterday" for the
intro on the first Group Home album, what a great intro it is. I
think I could listen to this loop over and over. Not much change to
the sample just some nice hard hitting drums added over top. If you
like the sound of this I would suggest checking out some other Wes M.
cover songs like "Eleanor Rigby" and "Say a Little Prayer for You."
Stevie
Wonder / Too
High
Alkaholiks
/ All Night
Not
much done to this Stevie Wonder sample for the Liks All Night single.
Simple loop with some drums added, fit the feel of the song nicely
though.
Barry
White / Midnight
Groove
Flipmode
Squad / Cha Cha Cha
I
would have never thought of this sample coming from a Barry White
song, sounds like it would be a Herb Alpert horn sample or something
but I guess not. Another snare was layered over the original sample
and some tambourines were added as well. Pretty much a straight jack
but with some touches of production.
Grant
Green / Down
Here on the Ground
Tribe
Called Quest / Vibes and Stuff
Nothing
amazing with this sample but itís used on Low End Theory my
second favorite album of all time. 1 bar loop used for Vibes and
Stuff with some nice breakdowns in the middle and end of the song.
This one was also used on a TV commercial but which one escapes me
right now.
Joe
Simon / Drowning
In A Sea of Love
Gangstarr
/ You Know My Steez
Hereís
the sample Premier chopped the hell out of to come up with Steez. I
love this sample so much just because it shows the talent Premier
possesses in my opinion. I tried to recreate the Steez beat and my
version was nowhere as close. Download the sample and try for
yourself, itís not as easy as it sounds.
Michael
Jackson / With
A Childs Heart
Big
Punisher / You Ainít A Killer
Not
much done to this sample as much as I can hear, I think Young Lord
added some synth sounds in the background but this small loop formed
the basis for the track.
Three
Dog Night / Easy
To Be Hard
Nice
and Smooth / Old to the New
This
was sped up a bit I think and maybe filtered for the actual verses
with the main sample showing up during the hook. I think this was the
last single worth listening to for Nice and Smooth, their last album
was horrible.
The
Hobbit / The
Dragon Smaug
Porn
Theater Ushers / Me & Him
Here
is the vocal sample used in the beginning of the PTU song during the
funky beat. I had no idea it was from the Hobbit movie but while
watching it I heard it and recognized it from Me & Him. A
creative bit of sampling by Mister Jason. Iím looking forward
to a Porn Theater album.
Cameo
/ Hanging
Downtown
Group
Home / Supastar
Primo
speeds and chops this sample a little. The first sound spacey sounds
he speeds up then repeats the earlier sound in the Cameo sample. Nice
bit of sampling by Premier once again.
Crusaders
/ Whispering
Pines
Jeru
the Damaja / Da Bichez
Wow
a lot of Premier today, these nice horns from the Crusaders provide
the basis for Jeruís song. Seems like mostly Primo slowed the
sample a bit and threw in some nice drums. Maybe a filtered sample
used during the verses.
Freddie
Hubbard / Povo
Black
Sheep / Black With NV
Hereís
the sample for my favorite song off the classic Black Sheep first
album. Basically a straight jack of the Hubbard sample but sped up.
The drums and bass in the beginning of the song lead to some flanged
cymbal sounds and guitars. Nice production and great rhymes. Check
this song out if you have a chance.
Al
Green / Gotta
Find A New World
Ghostface
Killah / Iron Maiden
Hereís
the hype horn loop used for Ghostís opening song off his first
LP. Looks like the RZA took the first two bars and looped them adding
in some drums and police sirens. Nice beat to get the album started.
Deodato
/ September
13
Camp
Lo / Park Joint
Geat
sample used for Camp Loís song off their underrated album.
Basically the same thing with some added snare hits. The part with
the wah guitars shows up during the hook. Nice open drum loop at the
very beginning of this song as well. Ski showed very impressive
production with this album.
Chuck
Mangione / El
Gato Triste
Nas
/ Suspect
Nice
bassline from the Sad Cat used for Suspect off of It Was Written.
Looks like Trackmasters slowed down the bassline and added some extra
string and bell type sounds. Besides lots of commercial jacks Poke
and Tone arenít that bad.
Clifford
Brown / Yesterdays
KRS
One / MCís Act Like They Donít Know
Nice
little sample here, props to C Pers for sending me this one. Drums
added along with some glockenspiels for the Blastmaster to rock over.
Not much done to the C Brown sample but still dope.
Isaac
Hayes / Doggone
Good Love
Big
Noyd / Usual Suspect (Stretch Armstrong Remix)
Another
nice sample from C Pers right here. This Isaac Hayes sample is sped
up quite a bit for this song. Umm thatís all I can think of
right now, check it out.
Turtles
/ You
Showed Me
De
La Soul / Transmitting Live From Mars
Hereís
the sample that got De La Soul sued by those Turtle bastards. Dope
organ and strings along with a French instructional record Prince
Paul found somewhere provide a smooth interlude for De Laís
first album.
Labi
Siffre / I
Got The
Eminem
/ My Name Is, Beatnuts / Beatnuts Forever
Looks
like the My Name Is beat is completely jacked, damn I thought at
least the drums were original, nope totally jacked. The first part
contributed to the Beatnuts song just a little sped up. I wonder how
much of the royalties Labi got from Eminemís success??
Seals
& Croft / Sweet
Green Fields
Busta
Rhymes / Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See
Some
shakers, tambourines and snares were added to the S&C sample. The
later sample with the extra sounds besides the drums shows up during
the hook. Hmm both Flipmode samples on this page have some
tambourines and snares added to the original sample for their songs.
Stick with what works I guess.
