The newest member of the group, Dawn, appeared as Buffy’s sister early in season 5. Although never seen before, the Scooby’s all had long memories of her presence, it was later revealed that Dawn was in fact not a person at all but a ancient key, sent in human form for Buffy to guard.

Dawn had no recollection of this and for a long time only Buffy and Giles were aware of this fact. She later found out with spike’s help, the truth about herself. Dawn is Still trying to find her way in the world, knowing that she is the key to some sort of portal to another dimension, but unsure of how and what her true powers may mean. Along with the struggle of adolescence she has become very much apart of everyone’s heart as they strive to protect her from the god glory.
